1. A cosmetic composition comprising a carrier and at least one active cosmetic ingredient, wherein a first active cosmetic ingredient comprises vetiver root extract.

2. The cosmetic composition according to claim 1, wherein the cosmetic composition is a skin care composition.

3. The cosmetic composition according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the first active cosmetic ingredient comprises an aqueous extract of vetiver roots.

4. The cosmetic composition according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the first active cosmetic ingredient comprises an extract of roots of vetiver.

5. A method for preparing active cosmetic ingredients comprises extracting roots of vetiver.

6. The method according to claim 5, comprising the steps of:

(i) providing waste vetiver roots; and

(ii) extracting the waste vetiver roots.

7. The method according to claim 5 or 6, wherein the extraction is performed using water.

8. Use of an extract from vetiver roots in skin care, in particular use of an aqueous extract and/or use of an extract from waste vetiver roots.

9. A method of stimulating sebum production, stimulating sebum antimicrobial, stimulating lipid production, activating increased adipocyte volume, improving skin hydration, increasing skin tone, reducing skin fatigue, reducing wrinkles around the lips, plumping the skin and/or enhancing long-term persistence of fragrance by applying a cosmetic composition according to any one of claims 1 to 4 to the human skin.

example 1: preparation of vetiver root extract for in vitro and in vitro studies

Waste vetiver roots (75g) from the sea were suspended in water (2000 g). The extraction was carried out for 4h at 60 ℃ with stirring. The pH was monitored during the extraction and varied between about 7.4 to about 7.8.

After filtration, the solution was concentrated by removing water until its final dry matter content was 0.7%. The product is generally a clear, dark yellow to amber liquid, odorless, and has a pH of about 7.7 to 7.8. The extract is commonly used for in vitro and ex vivo studies.

For the studies described in the examples below, aqueous solutions containing 1%, 2% and 3% of the extract were prepared, respectively.
