Technical Field
The invention relates to a magnetic induction flowmeter, comprising: a measuring tube for guiding a conductive medium; magnetic field generating means for generating a magnetic field that penetrates the measuring tube at least partially perpendicularly to the flow direction of the medium; an electrode for tapping a measurement voltage induced in the medium; and a conductivity measuring device for determining the conductivity of the conductive medium. The invention also relates to a method for operating such a magnetic inductive flow meter.
Background
Magnetic inductive flow meters are used to determine the flow of an electrically conductive medium. If reference is subsequently made briefly to the "conductivity" of a medium, this always refers to the electrical conductivity of the medium. The measurement principle on which flow measurement is based on the principle of charge separation of particles in a magnetic field. The charge separation leads to an induced voltage, i.e. a measured voltage, which is proportional to the flow velocity of the charge carriers moving in the medium, so that from this flow velocity the flow in the medium can be inferred. From practice it is known that: temporally alternating magnetic fields are used for magnetic-inductive flow measurement.
In order to be able to perform a magnetic-inductive flow measurement on a medium, the medium must have a minimum electrical conductivity. However, the conductivity or conductivity value of the conductive medium is often not known. Correspondingly, magnetic inductive flow meters are known from the prior art, which also have a conductivity measuring device, with which the conductivity of the electrically conductive medium can be determined.
To determine the conductivity, a current is injected between the electrodes and the resulting voltage attached between the two electrodes is then measured. From the ratio of the measured voltage to the injected current, a resistance value can be calculated which serves as a basis for determining the conductivity of the medium flowing in the measuring tube, wherein the conductivity of the medium is proportional to the inverse of the determined resistance value.
It is also known that: the conductivity measurement is carried out in the switching phase of the magnetic field generated for the magnetic-inductive flow measurement, in order to thus utilize the time required until the magnetic field has stabilized sufficiently. Correspondingly, during the switching time of the magnetic field, the current required for the conductivity measurement is injected into the medium between the electrodes and the voltage dropped across the electrodes as a result of the current passing through the medium is measured.
The injected current is switched off before the actual magnetic-inductive flow measurement is started. Despite the end of the conductivity measurement, a residual voltage remains between the electrodes, which is related to the conductivity of the medium. This residual voltage is measured together with the flow rate measurement and leads to an error which is dependent on the conductivity of the medium and which can be noticed by a voltage offset and which relates the flow rate value determined by means of magnetic-inductive flow rate measurement to the conductivity of the medium.
Disclosure of Invention
Accordingly, the object of the present invention is to provide a magnetic-inductive flow meter with which an improved flow measurement can be carried out. The object of the invention is also to provide a method for operating such a magnetic inductive flow meter.
In the case of the magnetic inductive flow meter according to the invention, this object is achieved by the features of the characterizing part of patent claim 1: the conductivity measuring device has a measuring circuit, wherein the electrodes are part of the measuring circuit, and wherein the measuring circuit has a voltage source and a measuring cell. In an operating state of the conductivity measuring device, the voltage source generates a measuring circuit voltage in the measuring circuit. The measuring unit measures the actual electrode voltage attached between the electrodes. The conductivity measuring device of the magnetic inductive flow meter according to the invention also has a control unit and an evaluation unit. In the operating state of the conductivity measuring device, the control unit controls the actual electrode voltage to a predetermined constant setpoint value. The evaluation unit determines an electrode current flowing between the electrodes and determines a conductivity value of the medium and/or a variable associated with the conductivity using the determined value of the electrode current and the actual electrode voltage. Such a parameter may be, for example, the resistance value of the medium. Remarks are made for the sake of clarity: using the measured actual electrode voltage and the determined electrode current itself, it is possible to first calculate the conductance or resistance value of the medium in a specific geometric arrangement of the electrodes and the measuring tube. However, it is then possible to deduce from a factor whether the conductivity or the resistance of the medium is the material variable.
In contrast to the magnetic induction flow meters known from the prior art, in the case of the magnetic induction flow meter according to the invention, for determining the conductivity of the medium, instead of injecting a current between the electrodes and measuring the resulting voltage, a constant electrode voltage is generated between the electrodes and the electrode current resulting from this constant voltage is determined. The conductivity value of the conductive medium is then determined from these two values. The magnetic inductive flow meter according to the invention has the following advantages over the prior art: the electrode voltage applied between the electrodes is substantially constant during the measurement of the conductivity of the medium and is thereby no longer dependent on or determined by the conductivity of the medium. Correspondingly, the residual voltage remaining on the electrodes after the end of the conductivity measurement is also constant, which leads to a constant, conductivity-independent offset in the magnetic-inductive flow measurement, which can therefore be taken into account or compensated computationally much more simply.
The voltage generated in the measuring circuit by the voltage source may have any form. In a particularly preferred embodiment, however, the voltage is an alternating voltage, preferably a harmonic alternating voltage. In a preferred embodiment, two sinusoidal voltages are superimposed on the generated voltage. Particularly preferably, the frequency of the second sinusoidal voltage is twice the frequency of the first sinusoidal voltage.
In a first embodiment of the magnetic-inductive flow meter, the control unit and the evaluation unit are designed as separate units. In a second embodiment of the magnetic inductive flow meter according to the invention, however, the control unit and the evaluation unit are implemented as a common unit, in particular by a microcontroller.
According to the invention, the electrode current flowing between the electrodes through the medium and thereby flowing in the measuring circuit is measured. In a first embodiment, the measuring circuit of the conductivity measuring device has a current measuring unit which measures the electrode current and thereby measures the measuring circuit current. Particularly preferably, the current measuring unit transmits the measured value of the electrode current to the evaluation unit. In a second embodiment of the magnetic-inductive flow meter according to the invention, the evaluation unit determines a voltage difference between the generated measurement circuit voltage and the actual electrode voltage and determines the electrode current from this voltage difference and the resistance value of the measurement circuit. This design has following advantage: no additional measuring unit, i.e. no additional current measuring unit, has to be provided. Rather, the electrode current flowing between the electrodes can be determined by means of known variables.
In a particularly preferred embodiment of the magnetic inductive flow meter according to the invention, the resistance value of the measuring circuit is stored in the evaluation unit. Particularly preferably, a resistor is integrated into the measuring circuit, wherein the resistor has a known resistance value, which is stored in the evaluation unit.
A particularly preferred embodiment of the magnetic induction flowmeter is characterized in that: a constant setpoint value predetermined for the electrode voltage is stored in the control unit. The regulating unit compares the actual electrode voltage measured by the measuring unit with the stored target value and determines a regulating deviation in this way. That is, the regulation deviation is the difference between the nominal value and the actual electrode voltage. In the case of a regulating deviation, the regulating unit regulates the measuring circuit voltage. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the control unit is designed as a P controller, a PI controller or a PID controller.
In a particularly preferred embodiment, the nominal value of the electrode voltage is 1mV, so that the actual electrode voltage is regulated to 1 mV. However, smaller or larger values of the setpoint value are likewise conceivable.
Another embodiment of the magnetic inductive flowmeter is characterized in that: the measuring circuit has at least two alternative measuring paths which can each be integrated into the measuring circuit by means of at least one switch. Each of the at least two measurement paths has a resistance, wherein at least two resistances of the at least two measurement paths have different resistance values from each other. The resistance values of the different resistors are stored in the regulating unit. The control unit is also designed in such a way that it can switch the switches and thereby can alternatively switch an alternative measuring path into the measuring circuit. In a preferred embodiment, the measuring circuit has three measuring paths which can each be integrated into the measuring circuit via at least one switch.
Particularly preferably, the adjustment unit is configured such that: the control unit determines which measuring path should be effectively switched into the measuring circuit as a function of the control deviation, i.e. the difference between the setpoint value and the measured actual electrode voltage, and the characteristic of the voltage source operating at the limit of its control range. It is therefore preferred to perform a switchover from one measuring path to another measuring path each time the voltage source is operated at the limit of its regulating range, however the regulating deviation still exists or exceeds a tolerable value. Therefore, the magnetic induction type flowmeter has the following advantages: a wide measurement range can be achieved. The measuring range of the conductivity measuring device can be adjusted and changed accordingly by switching on alternative measuring paths.
In a further embodiment of the magnetic inductive flow meter according to the invention, a capacitor is provided in the measuring circuit. In the case of an embodiment in which the measuring circuit has a plurality of alternatively switchable measuring paths, a capacitor is provided in each measuring path. The capacitor is used to filter the direct current component in the measuring circuit-the direct current component in the measuring circuit is filtered in terms of suppression. Such a direct component can have an adverse effect on the electrode voltage and thus also on the flow measurement, which is prevented by filtering with a capacitor. The capacitance of the capacitor is selected to be so large that the voltage drop across the capacitor can be virtually ignored, for example compared to the voltage drop (which can be measured at the electrodes) across the dielectric section and for example compared to the voltage drop across the additional ohmic resistance.
In addition to the magnetic inductive flow meter, the invention also relates to a method for operating a magnetic inductive flow meter according to the invention, namely a method for operating a magnetic inductive flow meter having: a measuring tube for guiding a conductive medium; magnetic field generating means for generating a magnetic field that penetrates the measuring tube at least partially perpendicularly to the flow direction of the medium; an electrode for tapping a measurement voltage induced in the medium; and a conductivity measuring device having a measuring circuit, wherein the electrodes are part of the measuring circuit, and wherein the measuring circuit has a voltage source and a measuring unit, and wherein the conductivity measuring device has a regulating unit and an analyzing unit.
In the method according to the invention, in the generating step, a measuring circuit voltage is generated in the measuring circuit by the voltage source, and in the measuring step, the actual electrode voltage between the electrodes is measured by the measuring unit. In the comparison step, the measured actual electrode voltage is compared by the control unit with a predefined target value and a control deviation is determined.
In the case of a deviation exceeding a predefined value, the measurement circuit voltage is adjusted by the control unit in an adjustment step until the deviation falls below the predefined value or corresponds to the predefined value. The predefined value is stored, for example, in the control unit.
In the determination step, the electrode current flowing between the electrodes is determined by the analysis unit, and in the calculation step, the value of the electrical conductivity and/or a quantity associated with the electrical conductivity is calculated by the analysis unit from the electrode current and the actual electrode voltage. The parameter associated with the electrical conductivity may be, for example, a resistance value of the medium.
In a very particularly preferred embodiment of the method according to the invention, in the determination step, the electrode current is determined on the basis of the difference between the applied measurement circuit voltage and the actual electrode voltage and the resistance value of the measurement circuit. Particularly preferably, the resistance value of the measuring circuit is stored in the evaluation unit.
The method according to the invention can be implemented in different embodiments. In one embodiment, the determining step and the calculating step are carried out when the control deviation corresponds to the predetermined value or falls below the predetermined value. The predefined value corresponds here to a tolerable deviation of the actual electrode voltage from a setpoint value and can be predefined, for example, by a user. If the setting deviation corresponds to the predefined value or is even smaller than the predefined value, the actual electrode voltage is correspondingly adjusted.
In a further embodiment, the determination step and the calculation step are carried out independently of what value the determined control deviation has, i.e. independently of whether the actual electrode voltage already corresponds to the setpoint value. At the same time, the adjusting step is carried out until the actual electrode voltage corresponds to the nominal value. In this embodiment, the individual steps are repeated a plurality of times, preferably until finally the setting deviation corresponds to the predefined value.
If the measuring circuit of the magnetic induction flow meter has at least two alternative measuring paths which can each be integrated into the measuring circuit by means of a switch and each of the at least two measuring paths further has an electrical resistance, wherein at least two of the electrical resistances of the at least two measuring paths have different electrical resistance values from one another and wherein at least two of the electrical resistances are stored in the control unit, a further development of the method according to the invention is characterized in that: in the switching step, one of the switches is closed by the regulating unit, whereby one of the measuring paths is effectively switched into the measuring circuit. Preferably, the adjusting unit switches exactly one of these measuring paths into the measuring circuit. By this embodiment, the measuring range of the conductivity measuring device is changed in a concise manner and method.
Particularly preferably, in the checking step, it is checked by the regulating unit whether the voltage source is operating at the limit of its adjustment range. In addition, it is checked in a checking step whether the control deviation is above the predefined value. In a decision step following the checking step, it is decided by the regulating unit whether or not to actively switch a further alternative measuring path into the measuring circuit. When the voltage source is operating at the limit of its regulation range (this may be both an upper limit and a lower limit), but also when the control deviation is above the predefined value at the same time, i.e. when the actual electrode voltage still does not correspond to the target value, it is positively decided to switch another measuring path into the measuring circuit. Preferably, the measurement path is selected by the regulating unit to have the next higher or next lower resistance value depending on whether the voltage source is operating at its upper or lower limit.
