1. A method performed by a User Equipment (UE), comprising:
receiving a first communication signal from a base station using a receive beam having a first receive beam direction, wherein the first communication signal includes beam direction change information;

9. The method according to any of claims 1 to 8, wherein the beam direction change information comprises azimuth information and elevation information.
10. The method of claims 1 to 7, comprising:
determining a receive beam parameter for a plurality of receive beam directions, wherein the plurality of receive beam directions includes the first receive beam direction and the second receive beam direction;
a mapping relationship is generated between each receive beam direction and a corresponding one of the receive beam parameters.
11. The method according to any of claims 1 to 10, wherein the receive beam parameters comprise a UE antenna index and a configuration related to the UE antenna.
12. The method of claim 1, wherein the beam direction change information comprises polarization change information.
13. The method of claim 12, wherein each polarization corresponds to a mapping between the receive beam direction and the receive beam parameters.

15. A method performed by a base station, comprising:
transmitting a first communication signal to a User Equipment (UE) through a transmission beam of the base station, wherein the first communication signal includes beam direction change information, the transmission beam having a first transmission beam direction;
transmitting a second communication signal through the transmission beam changed to the second transmission beam direction.
16. The method of claim 15, wherein the beam direction change information comprises angle change information of a transmission beam or angle change information of the reception beam.
17. The method of claim 15, wherein the beam direction change information comprises information of the second transmit beam direction or information of a second receive beam direction.
18. The method according to any of claims 15 to 17, wherein the beam direction change information comprises azimuth information and elevation information.

adjusting the receive beam from the first receive beam direction to a second receive beam direction according to the beam direction change information;
receiving a second communication signal from the base station based on the receive beam having the second receive beam direction.
21. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the beam direction change information comprises angle change information of a transmission beam or angle change information of the reception beam.

Technical Field
The present invention relates generally to wireless communication technology, and more particularly, to a method and apparatus for adjusting User Equipment (UE) beam transmission and reception parameters to receive signals from a UE antenna and transmit the signals.
Background
Advanced wireless communication systems and devices employ highly directional antenna systems to increase antenna gain, for example using millimeter wave (mmWave) communications such as 5G NR and 802.11 ad/ay. Generally, signals driving different antennas during transmission in an antenna system are weighted differently in terms of signal phase and signal amplitude, etc., to form a beam shape. Similarly, the amplitude and phase of the received signal components are weighted differently to emphasize the signal received according to the specified beam shape and direction. Beamforming for transmission and reception may improve throughput by reducing interference.
However, due to the nature of millimeter waves, environmental factors have a greater impact on signal transmission during beamformed communications than other types of signals. In beamforming communications, beam steering is employed to change the main lobe direction of the radiation pattern of a phased array antenna. The receiver must then adjust its beam direction in a corresponding manner to maintain beam alignment with the beam transmitted by the transmitter. If beam alignment between the transmitter and receiver is lost, a beamforming protocol procedure is required to realign the beam. If the misaligned beam cannot support the required link budget or capacity, the protocol process will take time to re-establish the wireless link to align the beam. In the prior art, the base station tracks the UE to adjust its beam to the UE, but beam misalignment may still occur, requiring beamforming protocol process steps to re-establish beam alignment. However, performing the beamforming protocol procedure may interfere with communication, and may even result in the UE and the base station being unable to communicate data while performing the protocol procedure.
Disclosure of Invention
A first aspect of the exemplary embodiments includes a method performed by a User Equipment (UE). In the method, the UE determines a first receive beam direction of a receive beam; receiving a first communication signal from a base station using the receive beam having the first receive beam direction, wherein the first communication signal includes beam direction change information; adjusting the receive beam from the first receive beam direction to a second receive beam direction according to the beam direction change information; receiving a second communication signal from the base station based on the receive beam having the second receive beam direction. With the solution provided, the UE can adjust its beam direction in response to the change in the beam direction after relative movement between the UE and the base station. Accordingly, the UE may actively adjust the receive beam direction based on the relative angular movement between the base station beam and itself.
A second aspect of the exemplary embodiments includes a method performed by a base station. In the method, the base station transmits a first communication signal to the UE through a transmission beam of the base station, wherein the first communication signal includes beam direction change information, and the transmission beam has a first transmission beam direction; transmitting a second communication signal through the transmission beam changed to the second transmission beam direction. With the provided solution, the base station may inform the beam direction change information via a transmission beam having a first beam direction to which the transmission beam is directed, so that the UE may adjust its beam direction in response to a change of the beam direction to the UE.
A third aspect of the exemplary embodiments includes an apparatus, wherein the apparatus comprises: a non-transitory memory including instructions; one or more processors in communication with the memory, wherein the one or more processors execute the instructions to perform the steps performed by the UE in the first aspect of the example embodiments.
A fourth aspect of the exemplary embodiments includes a UE. Wherein the terminal device comprises the functionality of the terminal device of said first aspect of the exemplary embodiments. The functions may be implemented by hardware, or may be implemented by software executed by hardware. The hardware or the software includes one or more modules corresponding to the above functions.
A fifth aspect of the exemplary embodiments includes a computer storage medium. Wherein the computer storage medium stores instructions for execution by the terminal device in the first aspect of the exemplary embodiments and stores a program for execution in the first or fourth aspect of the exemplary embodiments.

Detailed Description
The present invention relates to a technique for determining angular movement of a measurement antenna in a base station for beam alignment using a motion sensor in a user equipment.
It is to be understood that the present embodiments of the invention may be embodied in many different forms and that the scope of the claims should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the concept of the embodiments of the invention to those skilled in the art. Indeed, the invention is intended to cover alternatives, modifications and equivalents of these embodiments, which may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims. Furthermore, in the following detailed description of the present embodiments of the invention, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding. However, it will be apparent to one of ordinary skill in the art that the present embodiments of the invention may be practiced without these specific details.
In the system described herein:
phased array antennas are commonly used in commercial millimeter wave communications, such as the 5G New Radio (NR).
The antenna array forms directional millimeter wave beams, so that the space energy efficiency is higher, and the receiving sensitivity is higher.
The following scenario exists: the base station will direct the base station beam to follow the movement of the UE without changing the beam ID, e.g. to track a moving vehicle or person in a movement training, or to characterize the UE radio performance in a test.
To characterize the wireless performance of millimeter-wave UEs, EIRP/EIS distribution within spherical space is used.
For each spherical angle, the UE will steer the phased array antenna to point the UE beam in the direction of the base station beam. The EIRP/EIS will be measured in this direction. The measurement of the EIRP/EIS in the spherical direction is achieved by moving the UE or moving the UE and measuring the antenna. Multiple measurement antennas may be used to speed up the measurement.
In active testing, movement of the UE or measurement antenna, or switching measurement antennas can cause beam misalignment; the UE needs to align the beam of the UE with the maximum gain direction of the measurement antenna to the maximum.
Beam search and alignment of reserved time. This alignment procedure will slow down the EIRP/EIS measurement or risk a lower EIRP or higher EIS.
It is understood that the singular forms "a", "an" and "the" include plural referents unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Thus, for example, reference to a "component surface" includes reference to one or more such surfaces.
Some terms involved in the embodiments of the present invention are as follows:
a "beam" may be understood as a spatial filter or a spatial parameter. The beam used for transmitting the signal may be referred to as a transmission beam (Tx beam), and may be spatial transmission filtering (spatial domain transmission filtering), or spatial transmission parameters (spatial domain transmission parameters); the beams used for receiving signals may be referred to as receive beams (Rx beams), may be spatial receive filters (spatial-receiving filters), and may also be spatial receive parameters (spatial domain receive parameters).
Beamforming is a signal pre-processing technique based on antenna arrays. Beamforming forms a directional beam by adjusting the weighting coefficient of each element (each antenna) in the antenna array, thereby obtaining significant array gain. The beamforming technique may be a digital beamforming technique, an analog beamforming technique, or a hybrid digital/analog beamforming technique. The transmission beam may refer to a distribution of signal strengths formed in different spatial directions after transmitting a signal through an antenna. The receive beam may refer to a signal strength distribution of the wireless signal received from the antenna in different spatial directions.
Beamforming may be divided into transmit beamforming performed by a base station, and receive beamforming performed by a UE. In general, transmit beamforming improves directivity by focusing a propagation arrival area in a specific direction using a plurality of antennas. The plurality of antennas may be arranged as an antenna array, each antenna comprised in the antenna array may be referred to as an element. The antenna array can be configured in various types such as a linear array, a planar array and the like. When the transmit beamforming is employed, the transmission distance is increased by increasing the signal directivity. Furthermore, since the signal is hardly transmitted in other directions than the directional direction, the signal interference of the UE will be significantly reduced. The UE may beamform the received signal through a receive antenna array. The receive beamforming concentrates reception of radio waves in a specific direction to increase sensitivity of a received signal incident from a corresponding direction and excludes signals incident from directions other than the corresponding direction from the received signal, thereby providing a gain of shielding an interference signal.
Implementing beamforming by having a directional component allows changing the direction of the beam to adjust the relative position between the receiving end and the transmitting end. Antenna array a directional antenna can be equivalently implemented with a plurality of common antennas having a certain delay by adjusting phase shifters of antennas in the antenna array, wherein the phase shifters of the antennas are adjusted based on a parameter of a reception beam in a certain direction.
The beam pair relationship is a pair relationship between a transmission beam and a reception beam, or a pair relationship between spatial transmission filtering and spatial reception filtering. By transmitting signals between the transmission beam and the reception beam as a beam pair relationship, a large beamforming gain can be obtained.
In one example, a transmitting end (e.g., a base station) and a receiving end (e.g., a UE) may obtain a beam pair relationship through beam training. The base station may transmit the reference signal using the beam sweeping technique, and the UE may also receive the reference signal using the beam sweeping technique. Specifically, the base station may form different directional beams in space and may generate a plurality of transmission beams having different directivities, thereby transmitting the reference signal through the different directional beams. This maximizes the power of the reference signal in the direction in which the transmit beam is pointing. The UE may also form different directional receive beams in space by beamforming and adjust beamforming parameters to generate multiple receive beams in different directions to determine the direction in which the receive beam is maximized and has the best signal strength or quality.
During operation after such a procedure, the transmit beam and the receive beam are aligned or nearly aligned. For downlink beamforming, an optimal beam pair of one or more transmission beams of the base station and one or more reception beams of the UE, which are generated in various directions according to respective structures of the UE and the base station, should be selected, and then a downlink beam tracking procedure should be performed, in which both the base station and the UE identify information on the beam pair.

Referring to the various figures in the appendix, phased array antennas are widely used to meet radio link budget requirements in millimeter wave communications. The communication has strong directivity. For each transmit beam, there is an optimal receive beam for the UE. The transmit beam of the base station corresponds to the receive beam of the UE. In general, 3GPP defines network parameters necessary to search and track a transmission beam of a base station in support of three beam management processes. These processes take time and can lose links under extreme conditions. There are network capacity tradeoffs associated with signals used to track base station beams. Alternatively, the UE may expedite base station beam search and refinement, maintaining good beam tracking by using angular movement information generated by motion sensors including gyroscopes and accelerometers. To characterize the wireless performance of a mobile device, in addition to TRP/TIS, EIRP/EIS distribution (CDF) within the sphere space is used. It is desirable for the UE to align its best UE beam with the base station beam from various directions in spherical space. The angular movement of the UE is the movement of the UE that may result in a change in the angle of the UE's receive beam.
To achieve spherical coverage, EIRP/EIS testing may be performed with either UE rotation or with both the measurement antenna and the UE rotating. When only the UE is rotated, the angular motion information of the UE is sufficient to adjust the UE beam (also referred to as the reception beam of the UE). When both the UE and the measurement antenna (or base station antenna) rotate, the UE cannot know the angular movement of the measurement antenna information without additional signaling. With only angular movement information of the UE sensor data, the UE may not be able to track the movement of the measurement antenna beam (which may also refer to the transmit beam of the base station). In another scenario, the base station needs to track the movement of the UE within a car or high speed train. The movement of the UE is predictable. The base station may configure and direct its transmit beam to track UE movement without using different beam IDs, thereby reducing beam switching overhead. The UE will experience a beam direction change for the same transmit beam ID. It is critical to adjust the receive beam to follow the beam direction change of the base station beam (the transmit beam of the base station) and maintain good beam alignment. Typically, the UE does not know the beam direction change using base station signaling. Angular movement of the antenna or changing information of the base station beam relative to the base station is measured because the motion sensor of the UE does not provide such information. The object of the present invention is to send information of the base station beam or the rotation of the measuring antenna to the UE whenever such information changes. With this beam direction change information, the UE will determine the relative movement between the UE and one or more measurement antennas, or the UE and the base station beam, knowing how to adjust the UE beam (meaning the UE's receive beam) to track the measurement antenna beam or the base station beam (meaning the base station's transmit beam). UE beam adjustment involves monitoring UE angular movement and tracking the beam direction (also referred to as the transmit beam direction) of the base station using the selected best UE beam through standard defined beam management procedures. Whenever there is relative angular movement between the UE and the base station, and the UE knows the relative directional changes in azimuth and elevation, the UE can change the active beam according to the changes in azimuth and evaluation angle.
In a typical EIRP/EIS CDF measurement, the base station emulator changes the polarization of the measuring antenna beam (i.e., the base station's transmit beam). This polarization change corresponds to a rotation of the UE. Even if the direction of the measuring antennas is the same, the UE needs to realign the UE beam to correspond to the new polarization. In the present invention, a UE beam also refers to a reception beam of the UE, and is a spatial reception filter or a spatial reception parameter (spatial domain reception parameter). Alternatively, a UE beam refers to the signal strength distribution of wireless signals received from antennas in different spatial directions. The present invention is directed to signals transmitted by a base station and received by a UE for identifying polarization by signaling commands or any signal from the base station. The UE may employ two mapping tables for two orthogonal polarizations, one mapping table for each polarization. After the UE receives the polarization change information of the transmission beam, the UE may switch to another mapping table according to signaling from the base station regarding the polarization change.
Some existing solutions defined in 3GPP for the beam management procedure are based on signal quality. When a polarization change or relative movement occurs between the UE and a measurement antenna for over-the-air (OTA) performance testing, or between the UE and a base station, the base station or base station emulator may configure the UE with training signals and training beams to align the UE beam with the base station beam. In the present invention, a base station beam is referred to as a transmission beam of a base station. In the present invention, a UE beam is referred to as a reception beam of the UE.
The method of the UE aligning the UE beam with the base station antenna takes time since the base station emulator needs to wait for the alignment of each measurement angle and polarization to be completed. This is time consuming and can be problematic for EIS testing. The waiting time may not be sufficient for different vendors' test solutions. This solution utilizes angular movement information from sensors on the UE as well as signaling and polarization change signaling, and can adjust the beam faster than existing solutions.

adjusting the receive beam from the first receive beam direction to a second receive beam direction according to the beam direction change information;
receiving a second communication signal from the base station based on the receive beam having the second receive beam direction.
Example 2. the method of example 1, wherein the beam direction change information includes angle change information of a transmission beam, or angle change information of the reception beam.
Example 3. the method of example 2, further comprising:
determining the second receive beam direction according to the first receive beam direction and the angle change information of the transmit beam; alternatively, the first and second electrodes may be,
determining the second receive beam direction according to the first receive beam direction and the angle change information of the receive beam.

determining a receive beam parameter for a plurality of receive beam directions, wherein the plurality of receive beam directions includes the first receive beam direction and the second receive beam direction;
a mapping relationship is generated between each receive beam direction and a corresponding one of the receive beam parameters.
Example 11 the method of any of examples 1 to 10, wherein the receive beam parameters comprise a UE antenna index and a configuration related to the UE antenna.

transmitting a second communication signal through the transmission beam changed to the second transmission beam direction.

determining a first receive beam direction of a receive beam;
receiving beam direction change information transmitted from a base station;
