1. An anti-fall bag for attachment to a waist belt, the anti-fall bag comprising attachment means for attachment to a waist belt; at least one pocket secured to the attachment device having an upper opening for receiving an item within the pocket, the upper opening generally having a predetermined dimension in a predetermined direction extending from a wall of the pocket at a proximal end of the attachment device to a wall at a distal end of the attachment device, the pocket being deformable in the predetermined direction in response to a force exerted on the distal wall by an item within the pocket; and securing structure within said at least one pocket for substantially maintaining said predetermined distance of said upper opening by preventing relative movement between said proximal wall portion and said distal wall portion, thereby preventing items within said at least one pocket from falling out through said upper opening due to excessive deformation of said distal wall portion while providing unobstructed access to items within said pocket.

2. The bag of claim 1, wherein the securing structure is made of a plastic material.

3. The bag of claim 1, wherein the at least one pocket has a bottom end located below the upper opening; the securing structure has a generally U-shaped cross-section and includes two upstanding portions bridged or connected by a lower portion that is substantially coextensive with the proximal and distal wall portions and a lower portion that is substantially coextensive with the bottom end.

4. The bag of claim 1, wherein the securing structure comprises a substantially flat panel having a substantially uniform U-shaped cross-section.

5. The bag of claim 1, wherein two pockets are connected to each other along the predetermined direction, and wherein the securing structure is disposed in at least one of the pockets.

6. The bag of claim 5, wherein a first pocket is secured to the strap loop, a second pocket is secured to the first pocket at the distal wall portion of the first pocket, and the securing structure is disposed within the first pocket.

7. The bag of claim 1, wherein the attachment means comprises a strap loop for receiving a waist belt.

8. The bag of claim 1, wherein the at least one pocket is made of a fabric material.

9. The bag of claim 8, wherein the fabric is made of nylon.

10. The bag of claim 8, wherein the fabric is made of polyester.

11. The bag of claim 8, wherein the fabric has a denier of less than 1000D.

Technical Field

The present invention relates generally to tool bags or pouches and, more particularly, to a fall-off prevention bag for attachment to a belt.

Background

A tool bag or pouch (pouch), typically supported on a worker's belt, may include one or more pockets for carrying tools or other items used by the worker for installation, repair, and/or testing operations.

Such tool bags or pouches are typically made of high Denier (Denier) textile fabrics, such as nylon and polyester, which can be at least partially deformed, particularly under the weight of a heavy tool (e.g., a hammer) that may protrude at least partially outside the pocket of the pouch or tool bag. Such larger and heavier tools can exert forces on the bags that can deform them, sometimes to the point where the tools can fall out of the bag.

The tool bag disclosed in US 9,826,819 attempts to solve this problem. In this patent, the main bag body has an upper opening and a space for receiving a flexible edge panel which forms an upward opening having a cutout gradually decreasing from a middle portion toward opposite ends of the middle portion. Two flexible sheets, which essentially form a funnel or one-way valve, are attached to the inside of the surface of the bag body to define an upper opening proximate to the upward opening and a lower bottom distal from the upward opening. The flexible edge plate defines a smaller cross-section than the upper opening, preventing tools or other objects from falling out of the receiving space. The flexible sheet facilitates insertion of the article into the bag and prevents dropping. However, these flexible sheets also make it more difficult to remove items from the bag, particularly smaller items such as tape measures, small screwdrivers, etc., which may be located at the bottom of the tool bag or pouch, which may injure the user when the user picks up the tool through the narrow opening formed by the flexible sheets.

Other attempts have been made to prevent the tool bag from sagging under the weight of the tool and/or to prevent the tool from penetrating the wall of the tool bag. For example, in US 6,435,304, separate reinforcing panels are mounted in or out of the walls of a tool bag, wherein the walls include a back wall and a bottom wall. These separate, unattached panels may be constructed of fine particle board, plywood or plastic sheet material, which prevents bulging or deformation of certain walls, but does not prevent relative movement or separation between the walls.

Another solution to prevent sagging is to make tool bags or pouches of high denier material above 1000D. While such heavier fabrics are stiffer and help reduce the risk of wall separation and contents falling out, such tool bags are heavier and more expensive to manufacture.

Disclosure of Invention

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a fall-prevention bag which does not have the disadvantages of the prior bags or tool bags.

It is another object of the present invention to provide an improved bag which is simple in construction and economical to manufacture.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a fall prevention bag which is simple and convenient to use.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a fall prevention bag in accordance with the foregoing object which prevents potential injury to a user who is retrieving items from the tool bag or pouch.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a drop-resistant bag of the type in question that prevents tools or other items from falling out of the pocket of the tool bag without interfering with access to the tools or other items in the pocket of the tool bag.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a drop-prevention bag that prevents the proximal and distal walls of a bag of textile material having a denier of less than 1000D or a tool bag from deforming and separating.

To achieve the above objects, and others which will become apparent hereinafter, an anti-fall bag for attachment to a waist belt includes an attachment device for attachment to a waist belt. At least one pocket is secured to the attachment device and has an upper opening for receiving items within the pocket. The upper opening typically has a predetermined dimension in a predetermined direction extending from a wall of the pocket at a proximal end of the attachment device to a wall at a distal end of the attachment device. The pocket is deformable in the predetermined direction in response to a force exerted on the distal wall portion by an article within the pocket. A securing structure is disposed in the at least one pocket for substantially maintaining the predetermined distance of the upper opening by preventing relative movement between the proximal wall portion and the distal wall portion. Whereby the contents of said at least one pocket are prevented from falling out through said upper opening by excessive separation between the distal wall portion and the proximal wall portion, while providing unobstructed access to the contents of said pocket.

Brief description of the drawings

FIG. 1 is a side view of a bag or tool bag for attachment to a belt constructed in accordance with the prior art, showing the tool about to fall out of the bag due to deformation of the bag and separation of the distal and proximal wall portions due to weight or force exerted by the contents (e.g., a hammer);

FIG. 2 is a side view of the drop resistant bag according to the present invention showing a plastic sheet positioned within one of the pockets (the proximal pocket) to eliminate or greatly reduce deformation and separation of the pocket wall, maintaining the hammer in a substantially vertical orientation; and

fig. 3 is a perspective view of the securing structure shown in fig. 2 in a tool bag or a proximal pocket of the bag.

Detailed Description

Referring now to the drawings, in which like or similar elements are designated with identical reference numerals throughout the several views. Referring first to fig. 1, there is shown a prior art tool bag or pouch 10 including a harness loop 12 for attaching the pouch 10 to a user's tool belt. Although a strap loop 12 is shown in fig. 1, any suitable attachment means may be used to attach the bag or tool bag 10 to the user's belt.

The bag or tool bag 10 includes a first pocket 14, the first pocket 14 including a rear wall portion 14a and a front wall portion 14b, a bottom end or wall portion 14c, and an opening 14 d. Wall 14a is the proximal wall relative to the user and wall 14b is the distal wall when the bag is worn on the tool belt. The distance between the proximal end wall portion 14a and the distal end wall portion 14b at the opening 14d is "d 1". The second pocket 16 is secured to the pocket 14. similarly, the second pocket 16 has a proximal wall portion 16a, a distal wall portion 16b, a bottom end or wall 16c and an upper open end 16 d. Here, the distance between the proximal end wall portion 16a and the distal end wall portion 16b is "d 2". When a hammer 18 or other heavy tool applies a force F, the force tends to stretch the walls of pockets 14 and 16, increasing distances d1 and/or d 2. This deformation or stretching of the pocket in the direction of force F reorients the tool 18 to a position where it is likely to fall out of the pocket 16, particularly if the worker or user tilts to rotate the tool bag or pouch 10 in a counter-clockwise direction, as shown in fig. 1.

Referring to FIG. 2, an exemplary pouch according to the present invention is constructed similar to the pouch shown in FIG. 1, but includes a securing structure 20 in at least one of the pockets for substantially maintaining the predetermined distance d1 and/or d2 of the upper opening 14d and/or 16d by preventing relative movement between the proximal and distal wall portions 14a, 14b and/or 16a, 16 b. In the presently preferred embodiment, the fixed structure 20 is made of plastic, has a substantially U-shaped cross-section, and includes two upright portions 20a, 20b that are spaced apart from one another (as shown) and bridged or connected at their lower ends by a bridge portion 20 c. The upstanding portions 20a, 20b are substantially coextensive with the proximal and distal wall portions 14a, 14b, and the bridge portion 14c is substantially coextensive with the base or bottom wall portion 14 c. While the fixed structure 20 may have some minimal compliance, it is essentially a rigid structure that holds the uprights 20a, 20b substantially at a fixed spacing.

Any suitable securing structure may be used so long as the proximal and distal wall portions 14a, 14b are prevented from moving relative to one another. In the presently preferred embodiment, the securing structure 20 has the general nature of a flat plate having a substantially uniform U-shaped cross-section, as shown. By providing the securing structure, such as within the proximal pocket 14, the integrity of the distance d1 is maintained, which prevents magnification or compounding of stretching or deformation as exhibited in fig. 1.

Although separate stiffening panels have been provided in the prior art for the different walls of the bag, these stiffening panels merely fix or stiffen the separate walls of the bag. However, reinforcing the individual wall portions with reinforcing panels does not prevent the opposite wall portions from moving due to forces acting on one of the wall portions. With the U-shaped member or panel as shown in fig. 2 and 3, distance d1 (and distance d2 if a similar securing member is utilized at the distal pocket 16) remains substantially constant despite the presence of force F, thereby maintaining the integrity of the pocket and helping to maintain the tool in its upright position. This prevents the overall shape of the bag from being excessively degraded as shown in fig. 1, thereby minimizing or completely eliminating the possibility that the tool will tend to fall out of the bag or pocket opening of the tool bag.

While the invention has been shown and described with reference to certain embodiments, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various changes in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims and their equivalents.
