Technical Field

The present invention relates to the field of water treatment by physicochemical methods.

More precisely, the invention relates to a technique aimed at treating polluted water, such as water intended to be potable, urban and industrial waste water, rain water or sea water, removing suspended matter of such water, if necessary, its turbidity, algae therein, organic matter therein and its color.

The invention applies in particular to the field of water treatment for rendering water potable, but also to the field of wastewater treatment for the purification of municipal or industrial wastewater.

Background

In the techniques for the physicochemical treatment of water known to the person skilled in the art, condensation, flocculation and precipitation steps are generally used.

To improve the performance of these techniques, the flocculation step is supplemented with the addition of ballast materials. In fact, the settling of ballasted flocs consists in adding a ballast, such as fine sand, during the flocculation step to increase the density of the flocs and speed the settling. The ballast is typically recycled after separation of the settled slurry.

Thus, patent FR2627704B1 proposes a water treatment process comprising a condensation step, a ballasted flocculation step and a floc precipitation separation step. This technique involves recycling of ballast by sludge hydrocyclone separation.

This method can remove organic substances contained in water, but requires a condensation reaction tank, a flocculation reaction tank and a sedimentation tank. The corresponding equipment therefore occupies a large area and is often required to be located near the waste water, not far from the city or in the city, so that the available space for such equipment is limited and the cost is high.

Therefore, there is a real need to reduce the floor space of these water treatment facilities.

In addition, the hydrocyclone for recycling the ballast has high energy consumption. In addition, the separation efficiency decreases with the diameter of the particles to be separated, which may result in a large loss of ballast. In this approach, there is a real need to improve the ballast recycling efficiency.

Disclosure of Invention

The present invention aims to propose a water treatment plant for treating water by flocculation and ballasted floc settling which remedies at least some of the drawbacks of the prior art mentioned above.

In particular, the invention aims to propose such an apparatus having a footprint smaller than that of the apparatuses of the prior art with equivalent processing capacity.

The present invention also aims to propose such an apparatus, the use of which will improve the efficiency of the solid-liquid separation.

The invention also aims to propose such a device which is suitable for different treatment flows and/or different treatment water qualities.

The invention also aims to propose such a device which prevents ballast from being lost when the ballast is recycled.

The invention also aims to propose a method for using such a water treatment plant.

All or part of these objects are achieved by means of the present invention, which relates to a device for water treatment having:

a water supply device to be treated is provided,

a coagulant supply device for supplying at least one coagulant to the water to be treated,

a flocculation precipitation device, which is provided with a distribution device of at least one flocculating agent, a distribution device of at least one ballast, a precipitated sludge discharge device and a treated water discharge device,

at least one supply pipe for supplying the coagulation water to the flocculation precipitation device,

a separation device for separating the ballast contained in the ballasted sludge, followed by a recirculation device for recirculating the cleaned ballast to the flocculation sedimentation device,

the method is characterized in that:

the flocculation and precipitation device is provided with an outer tank and at least one inner tank, wherein the outer tank is provided with a first hopper, and the at least one inner tank is provided with a second hopper and is arranged in the outer tank;

the inner tank receiving the flocculant and the ballast and having an agitation device with a peripheral space disposed between the inner tank and the outer tank;

said second hopper is provided with an opening to said first hopper; and

the first hopper is provided with an outlet communicating with the discharge means of the ballast sludge, the treated water discharge means being arranged in the upper part of the outer tank.

Thus, the apparatus of the present invention can remove at least one of the elements in the suspended matter content, turbidity, algae, organic matter content, and color of the treated water. The coagulation of the present invention can destabilize the billet either on the production line or in the pond.

In addition, the flocculation and sedimentation device can concentrate the ballasting flocculation step and the sedimentation step, thereby greatly reducing the floor area of the equipment. Flocculation is carried out in an internal tank equipped with a stirrer. In this section, the blender brings ballast, polymer and coagulation water into intimate contact, resulting in the formation of aggregate (floc) that is ballasted by the ballast.

As an example, the stirring device in the flocculation and precipitation device is a blade stirrer.

By means of this configuration of the flocculating and settling device, the flocculated water in the inner tank is directed to the bottom of the hopper of the outer tank, where the ballasted flocs settle and thicken, by means of a suitable opening of the hopper of the inner tank. The "ballast sludge" refers to precipitated sludge mixed with ballast. The water without flocs is discharged overflow along a fluid-ascending circulation means arranged in the peripheral space between the inner basin and the outer basin.

According to these features, it is no longer necessary to install a stack in the space between the inner and outer tanks for sedimentation.

In practice, the actual density of the ballast is greater than 2.3 tons per cubic meter, preferably it is selected from sand, ilmenite and garnet. Therefore, adding ballast can increase the density of floc and accelerate the settling speed.

According to one embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention, said separation means for separating said ballast contained in said ballasted sludge comprise a pump and a separator, said pump being adapted to convey said ballasted sludge into said separator.

According to another embodiment, the devices comprise an air injection device for injecting air into the ballast sludge and a separator.

This air injection device constitutes an air lift by injecting air bubbles into the vertical pipe for sludge discharge. Such air lifts facilitate driving the ballast by means of the air bubbles, cleaning the ballast by means of the movement created by the air bubbles, causing abrasion of the formed aggregate around it, and thus separating the ballast from the rest of the sludge.

Preferably, the sludge and ballast separation device has a blade mixer, or similar high speed rotating mechanism associated with a small size settling tank. The high speed mixer can separate ballast from the rest of the sludge, optionally already initiated when the ballasted sludge is transported by the air lift to the separation device. The small-sized settling tank can collect ballast at the lower part thereof and float sludge at the upper part thereof. Injection of a fluid, such as air, can cause the sludge to float. The sludge separated from the ballast is discharged and subjected to special treatment.

And the communication between the inner pool and the outer pool is carried out by opening the second hopper. This opening serves to direct the fluid flow towards the bottom of the hopper to accelerate sedimentation. According to a particularly advantageous preferred embodiment of the apparatus according to the present invention, said opening of said second hopper is dimensioned such that the velocity of the fluid passing through the opening prevents the opening from clogging and restricts the vortex flow in the settling area. For a certain throughput rate, the speed of passage of water through the openings is inversely proportional to the surface of the openings.

According to another embodiment of the invention, the outer and inner cells each have a cylindrical body, the bodies being arranged substantially concentrically. With such a cylindrical shape, the engineering construction costs are not too high. This cylindrical configuration may also have good hydrodynamic properties.

To this end, it should be noted that a plurality of inner tanks may be provided, which are arranged in parallel in the outer tank.

Preferably, the water to be treated is injected into the inner basin along a direction substantially tangential to the cylindrical wall of the inner basin. This may accelerate precipitation.

According to another advantageous embodiment of the invention, said first hopper and/or said second hopper have a conical or inverted pyramidal shape with a square base. These structural shapes facilitate the settling of the ballasted flocs. However, other shapes may be used to suit each particular situation.

According to another particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, the stirring device has a blade stirrer and a deflector, the blades of the blade stirrer being arranged completely within the inner space of the deflector, the axis of the deflector being aligned with the stirrer. Therefore, when such a blender is used, water flows from bottom to top within the deflector and then flows in the reverse direction to the area around the deflector. This allows for optimal mixing of the water with the flocculant and ballast. A portion of the mixture then flows to the second hopper.

According to another advantageous embodiment of the invention, the treated water discharge device has at least one peripheral water discharge channel in the upper part of the outer basin. Thus, the water without flocs overflows after rising to flow into the space between the inner and outer basins.

It should be noted that the coagulant supply device according to the invention can be designed to coagulate water on the production line or in a reaction tank. In order to effect coagulation in the reaction tank upstream of the flocculation apparatus, the coagulant supply apparatus dispenses coagulant into a reaction tank preferably equipped with a stirrer.

The invention also relates to a method comprising a step of water coagulation, a step of ballasted flocculation, a step of sedimentation and a step of separation of the ballast and recirculation of the ballast to the ballasted flocculation step,

characterized in that the ballasted flocculation step and the sedimentation step are carried out in the flocculation device by conveying water along a pipeline in which:

after the coagulation step, the water is conveyed into the inner pool, and a flocculating agent and a ballast are added into the inner pool;

the water is flocculated in the inner pool;

water flows from the inner basin to the outer basin;

water is precipitated in a space formed between the inner tank and the outer tank through flowing from bottom to top;

treated water is discharged at an upper portion of the outer tank; and

the precipitated sludge is discharged;

and the separation step of separating ballast from sludge is carried out by injecting air into the ballast sludge without a hydrocyclone separation step.

The method according to the invention thus makes it possible to create a hydrodynamic movement in the flocculation and precipitation installation, whereby the hydraulic retention time and flocculation of the water are optimized and the sludge concentration is increased. The process of the present invention does not employ a hydrocyclone separation step. This reduces the energy consumption for separation and reduces ballast material loss.

When the stirring device of the flocculation and sedimentation device is provided with the fluid director, the water flows into the fluid director from bottom to top, and the water between the inner pool and the fluid director flows from top to bottom.

Preferably, the residence time of the water in the inner basin is between 2 minutes and 10 minutes. The residence time depends on the quality of the water to be treated and also on the type of ballast used.

Drawings

Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description of a preferred embodiment, given purely as a non-limiting example of an illustrative problem, with reference to figure 1.

Fig. 1 schematically shows the apparatus of the invention with a coagulation basin 20 and a flocculation and sedimentation device 1.

Detailed Description

The coagulation tank 20 is provided with a supply device 38 for water 500 to be treated, a distribution device 31 for a coagulant 21, and a stirring device 12. By way of example, the stirring device 12 has a blade stirrer and the supply device 38 has a pump.

In practice, the coagulant may be organic or inorganic. Advantageously, it is selected from the group consisting of aluminium sulphate, sodium aluminate, ferric chloride, ferric sulphate, ferrous sulphate, polyamines (epichlorohydrin or else

) Melamine formaldehyde resins, polyethyleneimines, and certain cationized vegetable polymers.

The flocculation and precipitation device 1 is provided with an outer tank 2 and an inner tank 3, wherein the outer tank 2 is provided with a first hopper 4, and the inner tank 3 is provided with a second hopper 5 and is arranged in the outer tank 2. The tanks 2 and 3 each have a cylindrical body 2a and 3a, which are arranged substantially concentrically. The second hopper 5 is provided with an opening 6 which opens into the first hopper 4. The openings 6 are sized to allow the flow of water to pass through without creating turbulence. It can direct the water contained in the flocs 26 towards the bottom of the hopper 4 without dispersing, so as not to affect its settling.

The flocculation apparatus 1 is provided with a supply pipe 8 for coagulation water, a distribution device 32 for a flocculant 22, a distribution device 33 for ballast 23, a discharge pipe 34 for ballast sludge 24, and a discharge device 9 for treated water such as a drainage trough surrounding the outer tank 2. By way of example, the dispensing devices 31, 32 and 33 are tubes with dispensing valves. As an example, the flocculating agent is selected from the group consisting of water-soluble polymers of animals or plants, water-soluble polyelectrolytes of high molecular weight and of different ionic nature.

The inner basin 3 receives a flocculant 22 and ballast 23 and is provided with a stirring device 10. The stirring device 10 has a blade stirrer 14 and a flow deflector 13, the blades of the blade stirrer 14 are completely arranged in the inner space of the flow deflector 13, and the axis of the flow deflector 13 is aligned with the stirrer 14. A peripheral space is arranged between the inner tank 3 and the outer tank 2. The second hopper 5 is provided with an opening 6 which opens into the first hopper 4. The first hopper 4 is provided with an outlet 7 which communicates with a discharge pipe 34 for ballast sludge 24.

The treated water discharge means 9 is disposed at an upper portion of the outer tank 2. The treated water discharge means is, by way of example, a drain channel surrounding the outer basin 2.

The plant also has means for separating the ballast contained in the ballasted sludge 24, followed by means for recirculating 36 said thus cleaned ballast to said flocculating and settling device 1.

By way of example, the separation means comprise an air injection means 11 for injecting bubble-shaped air in a pipe 34. The separator 39 into which the pipe 34 enters is provided with a high speed rotating blade mixer 39a followed by a small size settling tank 39b provided with an air injection ramp 39c and a sludge discharge chute 39 d.

By using the air lift, not only the ballast sludge can be conveyed to the separation device, but also the ballast contained in the sludge can be separated, thereby reducing the loss of the ballast caused by separation.

According to the invention, the separating device is free of a hydrocyclone.

The operation of such a device will now be described.

The water 500 to be treated reaches the coagulation reaction tank 20, which receives a suitable dose of coagulant, where it is intimately mixed. The coagulation water is transported by a pipe 8 to the coagulation sedimentation device 1, wherein ballast 23 and flocculant 22 are provided. The water is intimately mixed with the ballast and flocculant by means of a blender 10. The movement of the blades 14 causes the water to flow from bottom to top within the deflector 13 and from top to bottom between the deflector 13 and the inner basin 3. This movement leads to an optimization of the flocculation of the water. The water is then discharged from the opening 6 of the hopper 5 to the outer basin. Thus, the water is conveyed from bottom to top in the space between the inner tank 3 and the outer tank 2, where the flocs formed are accelerated by the ballast contained therein to settle toward the hopper 5 and accumulate in the lower portion thereof. The settled sludge mixed with ballast 24 is discharged from the flocculation and sedimentation device by pipe 34. To which pipe a recycling device 36 of the ballast contained in these sludges is connected. Air 11 is injected into the sludge by means 35. The resulting air lift drives the sludge towards the separator 39. The separation of ballast from sludge is performed by means of air lifts, which is done in a separator 39. In this apparatus, the high-speed rotary stirrer 39a separates sludge from ballast. The sludge and ballast are then separated in a settling tank 39b provided with an air ramp 39 c. The ballast 23 is transported to the flocculation and sedimentation apparatus, and the sludge is discharged from the discharge chute 39d for special treatment.
