Technical Field
The present invention relates generally to a mirror for a solar reflector comprising at least one sensor integrated in the body of the mirror itself, the body of the mirror being understood to constitute all the layers of the mirror. Furthermore, the integration of the at least one processor in the body of the mirror associated with the sensor creates a smart device and thus a smart or intelligent mirror. The invention also relates to a method for assembling the mirrors themselves and to a management system for the mirrors constituting the solar field.
The invention is suitable for the field of solar energy, in particular to the field of concentrated solar energy.
Background
Disclosure of Invention
The present invention therefore proposes to develop a mirror, which is the only indispensable element in a reflector or solar concentrator, wherein the necessary sensors and/or devices are integrated to give it the ability to be intelligent and to measure, communicate, etc., wherein the highest standards can be effectively reached from the moment of installation without the need to install or incorporate external, additional or external elements for the mirror, which requires the handling of the mirror after its manufacture and/or its installation of components. This is because the necessary components are integrated and adjusted during production and manufacturing, during the manufacturing of the mirror, and always before the mirror is supplied for installation in the solar reflector or heliostat.
In particular, the invention relates to a sensor mirror, i.e. a mirror with at least one sensor integrated in the mirror body, a connection device for data transmission and a power supply device. The invention also relates to an intelligent mirror, which is an intelligent device integrating a smart device determined by at least one sensor integrated in the body of the mirror, a processor also integrated in the body of the mirror (which may be incorporated in or associated with the at least one sensor), communication or connection means and power supply means. Preferably, not only the sensor and the processor are integrated in the body of the mirror, but also the remaining components (connecting means and power supply means), i.e. all these components are integrated during the manufacture or installation of the mirror. Before the supply is installed in the solar reflector, the components of the mirror itself are constituted and such that they are at least partially arranged in and/or between one of the three layers (reflective layer, first protective layer and second protective layer) constituting the mirror itself. Partial arrangement is understood to include at least one sensor, preferably with a processor, in and/or between the three layers of the mirror. The processor integrated in the mirror body is able to process data received from the sensor or sensors of the mirror, from other sensors of other mirrors or from processors of other processors or other devices located in other mirrors of the same solar reflector and to send the data processing results received by means of the mirror image connection to another or other processors. This allows analyzing the information collected by the different processors and enables the joint action of the mirrors, the solar reflectors of the solar field and all the equipment that generally constitute a solar power plant. Further, in processing the received data, the processor may communicate with other sensors (e.g., actuators or other devices) with the purpose of sending commands to perform actions deemed necessary or sending information through the actuator sensors so that other devices can take necessary actions based on the collected and analyzed information.
By integrating at least one sensor or intelligent device in the mirror, as proposed by the invention, all installation, assembly, commissioning and operational activities of the solar power plant are simplified, since all technical complexity is already included in the mirror itself, i.e. at the time of manufacture, the mirror is integrated before being installed in the reflector. The characteristics or capacities of the mirror objects of the invention are not limited to measuring variables resulting from the integration of sensors, but also include processing information, communicating with other similar or different devices and managing control tasks heretofore managed by other elements arranged in the solar field or by the central control of the plant.
In particular, the mirror object of the invention, i.e. the sensing mirror, comprises a sensor integrated in the mirror body, a smart mirror or mirror with connection or communication means and power supply means, or with intelligent means, which has, in addition to communication means and power supply means, a sensor and a processor integrated in the mirror body, mainly due to the interaction of the sensor and/or processor integrated in the mirror with other elements of the mirror itself, the solar reflector, the field or the solar power plant having part or all of the following capabilities, providing:
the ability to interact with its surroundings, including collecting data from the surroundings by means of at least one sensor, managing the information acquired by the sensor and sending it, even including the ability to perform functions such as operation and maintenance commands and the like.
The ability to characterize its own state, including the ability to verify the state of the mirrored component in relation to its design task, such as the degree of contamination, optical quality, structural state, functionality and operability, information collected about at least one sensor, and the possible processing and transmission of said information, including the ability to perform a problem detection solving itself, if it has means,
the ability to identify and characterize its surroundings, i.e. to identify and characterize reflectors located around reflectors, including mirrors with at least one sensor and/or one intelligent device, support structures, tracking systems to actuate it, receivers, reflected radiation, evaluate meteorological conditions, perform surveillance and security tasks, etc.;
according to the invention, the ability to identify and/or characterize the mirror itself to the third party by actuating the sensor, for example an actuator (for example a combination of LEDs) emitting an acoustic or optical signal, is facilitated by actuating the sensor, or by the sensor, which also according to the invention acts as an active or passive reference (for example an ArUco marker) by means of a recognizable pattern or the like, which can be detected, identified and characterized by the third party;
the ability to facilitate the operation of other elements of the surrounding environment through the interaction of sensors and/or processors integrated in the mirrors with other elements of the solar field (for example the solar reflector itself supporting the mirrors), other reflectors, cameras or devices arranged in the solar field being independent of or included in the reflector, for example through sensors according to the invention, which also serve as passive references, for example recognizable patterns that can be calibrated. A camera or artificial vision device or a recognizable pattern (target) on the mirror surface, a photogrammetric system defining its geometry can be used.
-the ability to analyze the information collected and/or other mirrored collections communicated therewith and to generate new information based on the analysis of the data set, an
The ability to undertake solar farm and plant management tasks.
In accordance with the foregoing, a smart mirror comprising an integrated smart device as described above is a mirror, which, in addition to its intrinsic characteristics, has the management of other characteristics enabling the mirror to be "learned" by processing and the information collected by sensors or sensors integrated therein, as well as the information received and exchanged with the sensors or sensors of other mirrors arranged in the reflectors of the same solar field, even with the information of other existing devices in the field or in the solar energy, such as the solar reflector control unit or the central control unit of said solar power plant or the processor of a mobile device processed by the operator or processor of the device located on the service vehicle of the plant.
Therefore, according to a first object of the present invention, a mirror for a solar reflector is proposed according to
In particular, the mirror is constructed in a first configuration of a body with a reflective layer, a first protective layer and at least one second protective layer, and comprises at least one sensor integrated in the mirror body, connection means for transmitting data between the sensor and a solar reflector control unit and/or between the sensor and another processor in the solar field or in the factory, and sensor power supply means.
The term "integrated" is understood to mean that a part of the body of the mirror, integral with the mirror, may be partially or completely contained in the body of the mirror. It is also understood to be included or integrated in the mirror during the manufacturing, assembly or installation of the components of the body of the mirror. In other words, for the purposes of the present description, an integrated element means that the element forms part of the mirror body itself, so that the element can be completely or only partially incorporated in the mirror body, or fixed to the body of the mirror, so that it forms one connected whole, so that it can be handled and mounted as a single element. Mirrors with integrated sensors are the result of the manufacturing, assembly or mounting process of the components of the mirror body, more particularly the stage of integrating the sensors into the mirror body, before supplying the mirror to be mounted in a solar reflector.
According to the prior art, mirrors for solar reflectors essentially comprise three parts or layers constituting the mirror body, for example:
a reflective layer made of a reflective material, the function of which is to reflect sunlight affecting its reflective surface,
-a first protective layer in front of, above or on top of the reflective surface for protecting said reflective surface while allowing light to reach the reflective layer, which for this purpose must be transparent, so that solar rays can pass to the reflective surface, and
-a second protective layer located behind or below the reflective layer for protecting the reflective layer. The protective layer may be a layer of paint or a resistant layer having greater structural capacity than the paint layer.
According to a usual configuration, at least one of the two protective layers must be used to support the assembly, for example by means of a first protective layer of glass and a second protective layer of paint having a sufficient thickness or by means of a first very thin protective layer of transparent, even transparent plastic sheet, and a second protective layer consisting of a plate of a different material, having a thickness sufficient to support the assembly of the mirror body. The alternative described above is that the reflective layer and the second protective layer constitute a single layer, for example, when aluminum is used as the reflective layer, wherein aluminum itself is used as the second protective layer as well as the reflective layer. Another alternative is that in case the sensor is integrated in the second protective layer, in particular in the rear second protective layer, the first protective layer and the reflective layer are part of a mirror which already comprises a first and a second protective layer with a reflective layer in between, so that the resulting mirror comprises two second protective layers.
Based on the foregoing, for the purposes of the present description and as mentioned above, the term "integrated" means that the sensor or a part thereof is located at any point of the mirror body, in particular between the first protective layer and the at least one second protective layer.
The invention therefore proposes, firstly, a mirror for a solar reflector, comprising at least one sensor integrated in the mirror itself, said sensor being integrated in the mirror during its manufacture or during the assembly or mounting of the mirror, after which the mirror is supplied for its assembly or mounting in the reflector. Thus, after the manufacturing process, a mirror with an integrated sensor is obtained, which may have been referenced with respect to the reflective surface of said mirror, so that after mounting it in the solar reflector it will be sufficient to correctly position the mirror and connect the connection means of the sensor for transmitting data between the sensor itself and the solar reflector control unit in which the mirror is located and/or between the sensor and another processor of the solar field or of the factory. The connection means of the sensor as well as the power supply means may be wired or wireless. The actual connections of these connection means and the power supply will be integrated in the mirror as they are part of the sensor itself, but in the case of wired means the wiring does not have to be integrated in the mirror.
Based on the above, it should be pointed out that in the present description the connection means of the sensor for transmitting data between the sensor itself and the solar reflector control unit and the power supply means refer to:
-both in a wired and in a wireless manner,
in the case of wired means, the wiring of the connection means and/or the power supply means,
-connectors of said connection means and/or power supply means, in case of wired means, and/or
-a transmitter in the wireless device.
In contrast to what happens in the prior art, it is possible to avoid placing or even referencing the sensor with respect to the reflecting surface, since said action can be performed during manufacture and/or during assembly of the mirror when the sensor is integrated in the mirror.
Similarly, one or more sensors integrated in the mirror may sometimes facilitate the installation operations and commissioning of the solar reflector, for example by facilitating information during installation, positioning or installation, even monitoring the transport phase thereof.
Thus, as mentioned above, and considering that the function of a solar reflector is to reflect light in a certain direction, it would be very useful to integrate sensors, in particular sensors for defining the direction of the mirror itself, together with it. It is also very useful to integrate these sensors into the mirror during the manufacturing and/or assembly process, as this will enable its position and orientation to be defined relative to the reflective surface during the manufacturing and/or assembly process itself. It can be defined in a more reliable, systematic and economical way. In this way the relative position of the sensor and the reflecting surface is known and constant during its manufacturing process.
Thus, the mirror object of the invention comprises at least one sensor which is engaged with and inseparable from the body of the mirror and which therefore constitutes another component of the mirror, integrated in its body, just like the layer constituting its body.
The sensors integrated in the mirrors can be of different types, for example:
a camera or artificial vision device which captures images and sends them by connection to the solar reflector control unit and/or to another processor of the solar field or power plant. The camera may include a processor for processing the captured image and sending only relevant information by reducing connectivity requirements, or
Mirror breakage sensors, for example of the type comprising conductive elements in any layer of the mirror, for example by means of a wire mesh or wire.
Other sensor alternatives may be, for example, those that determine the dust level on the mirror and/or measure the tilt of the mirror and/or measure the orientation of the mirror and/or measure atmospheric or meteorological conditions (wind, passing through clouds.) and/or detect the position of the sun and/or measure the geometric quality of the mirror and/or identify the mirror to monitor and control it and/or measure the temperature and/or measure the position of the mirror and/or measure the vibration level and/or perform safety and surveillance operations. In any case, the sensor to be integrated in the mirror body will be chosen according to the requirements required for its application.
In addition, as mentioned in the preceding paragraph, for the purposes of this application, a sensor must also be understood as identifying those elements or devices which are used for monitoring and controlling its mirrors and which may be active or passive elements. In the case of active elements, these facilitate the operation of other mirrors, operators or other field devices (e.g. parabolic trough reflector receivers) or surveillance systems (e.g. concentrated solar flux measurement systems in tower plants) installed in the same field. Examples of such active elements or actuators include those that emit an acoustic signal, a light signal, a vibration signal, and the like. These elements or devices may allow additional operations, such as lighting areas near the reflector, deterring animals (in particular birds), etc. For the purposes of this application, a passive element or device is also a sensor, which may facilitate geometric verification, calibration, etc. of a vision device. The passive elements may be coded targets, geometric patterns or any other element that may facilitate these tasks due to their uniqueness (camera calibration, photogrammetric techniques measurements, etc.).
A mirror with sensors integrated in the mirror or sensors may include a processor, whether or not included in the sensor itself, which makes it capable of calculating and processing data acquired by the sensors. Thus, the processor may be incorporated in the sensor and, optionally, the processor may be integrated in the body of the mirror, associated with the sensor, but not related thereto. In any case, a single processor integrated in the mirror, whether or not included in the sensors, may be connected or associated with all the sensors arranged in the same mirror, or even with the sensors of other mirrors arranged in the same or another reflector, or the processor is arranged in a mirror arranged in the same or another reflector, or in any device of the solar field or power plant, for example a processor of a solar reflector control unit, a processor of a smart device, a processor by an operator or plant service vehicle, a central control unit of the plant, etc. Such sensors and processors are integrated in the body of the same mirror, resulting in smart devices and transmission and power supply means. The smart device integrated in the mirror produces a smart or smart mirror.
As regards the connection means of the sensor integrated in the mirror and its power supply means, as described above, any option available in the prior art can be used. For example, the connecting device may or may not be wireless, and in the latter case is preferably selected from IEEE 802.15.4(ZigBee), wireless Hart or bluetooth low energy-BLE or other devices that may appear in the future. Similarly, as regards the power sources of the sensors, they may or may not be wireless and are constituted by photovoltaic cells which can comprise batteries or any other type of energy storage device associated therewith. Alternatively, the sensor power supply means may be a battery or any other type of energy storage device integrated in the mirror.
In general, the sensor may be any sensor that enables the mirror to perform a function other than reflection, such as those described above, and may include those elements necessary to operate and perform its function properly both in the sensor itself and integrated in or associated with the body of the mirror. These elements mainly comprise the sensor accessories required for their operation, such as connection means and power supply means. When reference is made to a sensor in this specification, it must be understood to refer to the sensor and its components required for proper operation. Furthermore, when in this description reference is made to a smart device, it must be understood that reference is made to at least one sensor of any type described above together with the processor and the components required for its operation.
The choice of integrating the sensor into the mirror body varies and depends to a large extent on the topology and composition of the layers of the mirror body, since the sensor may be integrated in one or more of them depending on the composition of said layers. It also depends on the sensor and its function or requirements, as according to these the sensor has to be located on the reflective layer, or it can be located through said reflective layer, or it can be located behind said reflective layer, or behind said reflective layer but can be close to the first protective layer located in front of the reflective layer, e.g. be able to see through it.
For example, the sensor may be located over the reflective surface at any point thereof such that the first protective layer includes a gap or space for integrating the sensor therein. Another alternative is that the first protective layer is machined and comprises a housing in which the sensor is integrated, whereby the sensor is located above the reflective layer.
Another option is in one construction the sensor is integrated in the rear of the mirror so that the sensor passes from the second protective layer through the body of the mirror until it reaches the reflective surface or is in close proximity thereto. In another configuration, the sensor passes through the second protective layer leaving a portion of the sensor outside the mirror body. In other words, in the second alternative, the second protective layer also surrounds the integrated sensor, while a portion of the sensor remains outside the mirror body, facilitating for example the connection of the sensor and/or the power supply, and in the first alternative, the integrated sensor is located entirely within the second protective layer of the mirror body. In both configurations, depending on the implementation of the sensor, it may be of interest to form a discontinuity in the area of the reflective layer to enable the sensor to be in contact with, e.g. viewed through, the first transparent protective layer. A discontinuity is equivalent to a space, area or portion of the reflective layer that is free of reflective material, in order to thus enable the sensor to perform its function through the discontinuity.
As mentioned above, different alternatives will depend on the topology and composition of the body layer and the sensor to be integrated into the body.
For the purposes of this description, the materials constituting the different layers of the mirror body may be any material that ensures the function of the mirror, i.e. a suitable reflection level, and enables the integration of sensors into said body, and some examples of these are:
-a first support layer: glass, preferably solar glass with high transmission (low iron content), whether curved or flat, and may or may not be tempered. Alternatively, a low thickness transparent protective coating (e.g., SiO) may be used2) Transparent plastics, etc.
-a reflective layer: silver or aluminum is preferred, but other reflective materials may be used.
-a second support layer: paints, plastics, composites, sandwich panels, glass, foam filled carcasses of different materials, metal surfaces (e.g. aluminium).
Further, the mirror may integrate one or more sensors with the same or different functions, depending on the application of the mirror, the design of the solar device, and/or its needs. The mirror may also be reversed in its working position or even in the vertical direction, so that the aforementioned term "above" is to be understood as being on the side of the reflective layer on which the solar radiation impinges when the mirror is in operation. Similarly, when terms such as "under" or "beneath" are used with respect to the position of the sensor relative to the reflective layer, this must be understood as the shadow side of the reflective layer when the mirror is in operation, as opposed to the side on which the radiation is affected.
When the mirror also integrates a processor and it is not incorporated in the sensor, the processor may be integrated in the body of the mirror according to one of the options described above for the sensor.
Thus, based on the aforementioned features, a mirror with at least one integrated sensor, power supply and transmission means and preferably a processor, which may be part of the sensor or separate from the sensor but integrated in the mirror, depending on the sensor it contains, for example:
ability to interact with the surroundings of the mirror, and/or
The ability to characterize the state of the device itself, and/or
The ability to identify and characterize the state of its surrounding elements, integrated elements, surrounding environment or any other element, and/or
-the ability to provide relevant information to third parties, and/or
-ability to facilitate operations on other elements of its surroundings, and/or
The ability to analyze the collected information and/or the information collected by other images with which it communicates, and to generate new information from the analysis of the data set, and/or
The ability to undertake solar farm and plant management tasks.
A second object of the invention is a method for assembling a mirror for a solar reflector according to
The method comprises a stage of integrating the sensor into the mirror body during the manufacturing and/or assembly of the layers constituting the mirror body, after which the mirror is supplied to be mounted in the solar reflector. In particular, in a method for assembling a mirror for a solar reflector, the body of the mirror has at least one reflective layer, a first transparent protective layer and at least one second protective layer and comprises: an integration phase in which at least one sensor is positioned in contact with at least one of the three layers constituting the mirror after the assembly process; and a subsequent phase in which the at least one sensor is covered by at least one protective layer, the sensor being integrated between the protective layers. Thus, in the integration stage, at least one sensor is located above, below or through the reflective layer, and in a subsequent stage, the at least one sensor is covered with a protective layer, which may be a first protective layer or a second protective layer, depending on which side of the reflective layer the sensor is located, so that the at least one sensor is integrated in the body of the mirror. The terms "above" and "below" mean that the sensor may or may not be in contact with the reflective layer, i.e., the sensor may be located at a distance from the reflective layer, either side of the reflective layer, or in contact with either of the two faces of the reflective layer. The sensor may also be integrated in multiple layers of the mirror, rather than just one of them, including the reflective layer, if the method requires.
The foregoing stages may include or further imply other additional stages. For example, in order to have the sensor above the reflective layer, the integration stage may comprise forming a housing in a first transparent protective layer and positioning the sensor in said housing, and in a subsequent stage, applying the reflective layer on said first transparent protective layer, then arranging a second protective layer below or below the reflective layer. Alternatively, the reflective layer may be applied on the second protective layer before the second protective layer is connected to the first protective layer.
In another alternative, as an integration stage, the housing is formed in a second protective layer and the sensor is located therein, and in a subsequent stage, a reflective layer is applied on said second protective layer, and then the first protective layer is arranged on the reflective layer. Alternatively, the reflective layer may be applied on the first protective layer before the first protective layer is connected with the second protective layer.
Alternatively, in the integration phase, a housing is formed in the second rear protective layer and the sensor is located in said housing, then the mirror comprises its three layers, i.e. its second protective layer with the reflective layer and the first protective layer, arranged on said second rear protective layer. In other words, the housing is formed in the second protective layer, and the mirror having three layers thereon is located on the second protective layer.
In certain structures where the sensor is located between the reflective layer and the second protective layer, particularly those structures where the sensor must have a direct view through the first protective layer, a discontinuity must be created in the area of the reflective layer to allow the sensor to face the first transparent protective layer.
At least one layer of paint may be applied to dispose the second protective layer behind the reflective layer.
Similarly, and thanks to the mirror having connection means for transmitting data between the sensor and the solar reflector control unit and/or between the sensor and another processor of the solar field or of the plant, and sensor power supply means, said means can be wired or wireless, and can also be positioned during the phase in which the sensor is integrated in the mirror. The same applies to the integration of the processor in the mirror body when the processor is not part of the sensor, i.e. the integration phase of said processor in the mirror body is the same as the integration phase of the processor for integration described above. Integrating the sensor in the body of the mirror creates a smart or intelligent mirror.
Another object of the invention is a solar reflector according to
A fourth object of the present invention is a mirror interaction and management system for a solar reflector according to claim 30, wherein at least one mirror with at least one integrated sensor is connected to at least one processor external to the mirror, said at least one integrated sensor being arranged in the solar reflector. In particular, the system comprises at least one reflector with at least one mirror, for example a mirror as object of the invention, i.e. a mirror with at least one integrated sensor, transmission means and power supply means, and preferably also a processor, and at least one processor external to the mirror, such that the sensor integrated in the mirror and the external processor are connected to each other by a connection for transmitting and/or exchanging data and information between the mirror and the external processor and/or between the external processor and the mirror. The system is configured to at least:
-generating information of interest, including signals (which may be light, sound or otherwise), and/or for other components of a solar power plant or site, including smart mirrors or smart mirrors
-collecting information about itself and its surroundings, and/or
-exchanging collected information between processors, and/or
Analyzing the collected information, and/or
-generating information from the available information, and/or
-transmitting collected, exchanged or generated new information, and/or
-generating and/or receiving instructions for itself or other components of the solar field or plant.
Mirrors for solar reflectors of the type described above, and in particular constituted by a body having a reflective layer, a first transparent protective layer and at least a second protective layer, characterized in that they comprise at least one sensor integrated in the body of the mirror, a portion of which is partially arranged in and/or between certain layers thereof, before the manufacturing stage of the mirror itself, before the installation of the mirror in a solar reflector; a connection device for transmitting data between the sensor and the solar reflector control unit; a sensor power supply device. Preferably, it also comprises a processor integrated in the body of the mirror, which is incorporated externally to the sensor or sensors, but always associated therewith and integrated in the body of the mirror.
Each solar reflector has at least one mirror, although it may have multiple mirrors. Preferably, all reflectors in the solar field will comprise sensors or intelligent mirrors, but in some cases reflectors without sensors or intelligent mirrors may be arranged. In these cases, the sensors or intelligent mirrors may transmit information to, for example, a central control unit, or they may even be connected to control units that do not have reflectors of sensors or intelligent mirrors, in order to transmit instructions or information. For example, in order to measure dirt on a mirror in a solar power plant, it is sufficient to integrate the sensors into one of the different reflectors, so that not all reflectors comprise a mirror with a sensor for measuring dirt, but only a representative number of reflectors will comprise a mirror with said sensor. Thus, the information collected by the sensors can be extrapolated to all mirrors, with or without dirt sensors.
Thus, as mentioned above, a "smart field" according to claim 34 of the present invention comprises at least one solar reflector having at least one mirror with sensors, transmission means and power supply means, all integrated in the mirror and connected thereto. The at least one processor is located outside the solar reflector and belongs to any device arranged in the solar field, such as an intelligent device handled by an operator or another intelligent mirror located on a solar powered vehicle, a central control unit, a reflector control unit, another solar reflector, etc. The mirror is directly or indirectly connected to at least the external processor. Preferably, the above mirrors include an integrated processor during the manufacturing process, and the mirrors are then mounted in a reflector, resulting in a so-called smart or intelligent mirror, which can be connected to a processor external to the solar energy. The mirror may be indirectly connected to an external processor by a processor located in the solar reflector, said processor preferably belonging to the control unit of the reflector. During connection of the mirror with the external processor, information generated by the mirror based on the measured and/or calculated information may or may not be processed or modified by the intermediate processor, which then sends this information to the external processor.
The mirror interaction and management system for solar reflectors of the present invention enables the connection between a plurality of mirrors belonging to the same solar reflector and/or different reflectors located in the same solar field, either comprising a central plant reflector field or a control unit of the plant, independent of the processor integrated in the mirror, although the processor of one of the mirrors may perform all or part of the functions or plant of the central control system in the field. The system is capable of exchanging information between elements of the system, at least one mirror with integrated sensors and a processor external to the at least one mirror, in order to thus analyze information collected or generated by the different components, preferably the mirror.
Thus, the information exchanged between the different mirrors, with or without processors, and the components of the smart factory or mirror interaction and management system, is based on the information collected, aggregated or sent by the sensors. The mirrors are enhanced, either by processors in the central control unit or in devices other than mirrors, the learning and logical reasoning capabilities of the factory processor and each mirror, when they are integrated together, and the assembly of the mirrors, add the capabilities of the different components and create new capabilities.
This ability to exchange and analyze information with other components and systems in the solar field results in additional capacity because it is capable of generating additional information based on, among other things, aggregate analysis of information from multiple mirrors. An example is the position measurement of two mirrors that make up the collector of the same reflector, because by sharing the position information of the two mirrors, the slope of the collector is automatically calculated, which is additional data that neither can measure. This is because, based on the ambient information collected by the processors and with reference to the position of the midpoint of each mirror image, the information is exchanged between the processors, analyzed, and new information is generated, for example, a straight line connecting the two mirrors is defined, thereby performing operations such as knowing the tilt angle of the collector.
With the aid of the foregoing, a set of intelligent mirrors, object of the present invention, can increase their ability to produce interesting information when they work as a cluster or as a whole. Furthermore, when all or a relevant number of reflectors in a solar field or plant comprise reflectors such as are the object of the present invention, the system has a lot of information related to the management of said solar field, transforming it into what can be called the intelligent domain or intelligent domain. In these areas, there can be more and more automatic knowledge of the state of the elements that make up an element, which enables more informed decisions in terms of the area of optimal operation and maintenance. Furthermore, the smart rearview mirror will be able to manage more information and can even undertake operations previously performed by the central control of the plant or the local control of the receiver, thereby reducing central control requirements and communication requirements, thereby enabling the system to be centralized to more decentralized control.
In addition to this, this facilitates the concept of what are known as autonomous heliostats, and are generally wireless reflectors, which allow a significant reduction in plant costs.

Although not explicitly mentioned, the sensor may be arranged to face the front, towards the back or to one side of the mirror, depending on the type of sensor and its required functionality.
In this case, fig. 12 shows two embodiments of a faceted solar reflector, with parabolic troughs on the left and heliostats on the right, comprising at least one mirror or facet according to the invention. In particular, it can be seen that the reflector comprises a single row of mirrors, with at least one sensor integrated in each mirror, while the other mirrors of the other rows are mirrors which do not comprise sensors integrated therein. In other words, all mirrors of the solar reflector do not have to comprise an integrated sensor, so that the reflector may comprise a single mirror with a plurality of integrated sensors, or a plurality of mirrors each with an integrated sensor. Thus, the solar field may actually comprise a solar reflector with at least one mirror comprising at least one integrated sensor and a solar reflector with a conventional mirror, i.e. a mirror without an integrated sensor.
The foregoing embodiments relate to sensors integrated in the body of the mirror, which may or may not contain a processor, as previously described. Furthermore, the description of the preceding figures may be extended to the case where the mirror integrates a processor associated with the sensor but not included in the sensor, in addition to the sensor and other described components, so that a sensing mirror or a smart mirror may be obtained depending on whether or not a processor is present in the mirror.
It will also be apparent from the foregoing that the sensor, the connection means and the power supply means may constitute the same element or component integrated in the mirror body, whether or not said component comprises a processor.
Hereinafter, with reference to fig. 13 and 14, two operating situations are described, in which two or more mirrors of the object of the invention share information or use information or signals produced by another mirror, in order to improve the operation of the reflector on which they are mounted, the operation of the other reflector or the operation of the field in general. Preferably, the three mirrors are intelligent mirrors, i.e. mirrors comprising a processor in addition to the at least one sensor, the actuator and the power supply means.
Fig. 13 shows a heliostat as a solar reflector with eight mirrors, three of which are mirrors according to the invention, more particularly smart mirrors. If each of the three intelligent mirrors has the capability of measuring its position by means of, for example, a GPS (global positioning system) or differential GPS type sensor, they have the capability of connecting to each other and to a processor in order to manage the information collected by the sensors, the possibility of automatically generating new additional information of interest for controlling the heliostats on which they are installed.
For example, if the position of the intelligent mirrors in which each sensor is integrated is completely known, since they are integrated in the mirrors during the manufacturing phase of the mirrors and before installation in the heliostats, then their positions in the heliostats are also known and therefore the positions of points a and B in each mirror will be known. This allows to know the orientation of the straight line connecting the two points, since the processors of the two intelligent mirrors exchange the position information captured by the sensors and are therefore able to obtain information about the azimuthal orientation of the heliostat containing the two intelligent mirrors. Similarly, by knowing the positions of point a and point C in the intelligent mirror, information about the elevation orientation of the heliostat containing the two intelligent mirrors can be obtained.
Possible implementation methods include the following stages:
collect information from the sensors about their status (in this embodiment about their location),
-exchanging this information with neighboring mirrors,
-analyzing the available information by at least one processor associated with the sensor of the mirror.
-generating, by at least one processor, information on an azimuth orientation (AB line) and an elevation orientation (AC line) based on the available information.
-transmitting the generated new information to the control unit of the heliostat.
Fig. 14 shows three heliostats similar to the heliostat previously described in fig. 13, i.e., three heliostats each having eight mirrors, including three smart mirrors. Due to the integrated processor and connection means, and the ability to analyze the information captured or collected by the integrated sensors, the combination of intelligent mirrors gives them the ability to connect to each other, enabling them to analyze the orientation of adjacent heliostats, constantly analyze the possibility of collisions, shadows and blockages that may occur between them, and make decisions to optimize the production and safety of the plant in which they are installed.
Fig. 15 shows a heliostat with eight mirrors, four of which comprise sensors, active elements, in particular lighting devices, for example LED-type devices, and one of which comprises a second sensor, a visual device capable of capturing images around the heliostat and the processor, the latter therefore being an intelligent mirror according to the invention. One purpose of the sensors or lighting devices is that they can be seen by other elements or devices outside the heliostat on which they are mounted so that these other elements or devices can identify their location and thus the overall position and orientation of the reflector on which they are mounted. In addition, these sensors or lighting devices may change color, indicating an operational status or failure of the mirror itself, a reflector to which the mirror is mounted, or some other element with which some communication is established and information is exchanged.
Fig. 16 shows a set of heliostats, such as the heliostat of fig. 15. Among these heliostats, an intelligent mirror with vision capabilities will be able to identify the lighting devices of other intelligent mirrors, and due to the connectivity and processing capabilities, will be able to calculate the position and orientation of adjacent heliostats and communicate them to the heliostat and/or central control unit. In this example, another possible implementation is shown that combines a vision system external to the heliostat placed in the raised "O" position, so that it can observe and identify the lighting device and therefore know the position and orientation of the reflector of a portion of the solar field, thanks to the information captured by the vision system external to the heliostat and the information that the intelligent mirror can provide to the processor or intelligent unit of said external vision system. Furthermore, due to the connection and processing capabilities between the mirrors and/or the external control unit, the lighting devices may be switched on or off to facilitate their identification.
One possible method of actuating the four mirrors (21, 22, 23, 24) of the first heliostat (100) comprises the following phases:
-the mirrors (21, 22, 23, 24) receive instructions from devices external to the first heliostat (100) to switch on their integrated sensors (41,42,43,44) and the integrated sensors (41,42,43,44) are active elements (LED devices) emitting light signals, and
-integrated sensors (41,42,43,44) of mirrors (21, 22, 23, 24) turn on information of interest to sensors (45) of intelligent mirror (25) generating the second heliostat (101) and/or other sensors in other heliostats or systems external to the heliostats, such as for example elevated vision system (O).
On the other hand, a possible method of actuation of a smart mirror (25) comprising a sensor (45) located on a second heliostat (101) would comprise the following phases:
-the sensor (45) integrated in the intelligent mirror (25) of the second heliostat (101) issues an activation command to the mirrors (21, 22, 23, 24) of the first heliostat (100),
-the sensor (45) of the intelligent mirror (25) collects information by capturing images from the sensors (41,42,43,44) of the mirrors (21, 22, 23, 24) of the first heliostat (100) that were activated,
-the sensor (45) of the intelligent mirror (25) analyzing the image by means of a processor in the intelligent mirror (25) associated with the sensor (45),
-the sensor (45) of the intelligent mirror (25) generates information about the position and orientation of the first heliostat (100), an
-the sensor (45) of the intelligent mirror (25) transmits the generated new information to the control unit of the first heliostat (100) or to an adjacent heliostat.
While heliostats including mirrors according to the present invention are described, the foregoing fig. 14-16 also describe associations or groups of heliostats that exchange information between each other due to sensors integrated in the mirrors that make up the heliostats and processors to which the sensors or mirrors are coupled. For the purposes of this application, a set of heliostats with mirrors according to the invention is referred to as a smart solar field or smart field. This concept relates to the connectivity between different mirrors arranged in a solar reflector, with the aim of exchanging or transferring information captured by the sensors of the different mirrors. By implementing these mirrors in the reflectors of the plant, great advantages are obtained in the solar field due to the interrelationships and relations with all the components of the solar field (other mirrors of the external elements, reflectors and processors), which in particular enable a more efficient management, monitoring and control of the solar field.
Currently, most management, monitoring and control activities in solar fields are defined by a central controller or central control unit which sends signals to the different reflectors of the solar field so that they perform the movements required for their optimal operation. Thus, for example, the central controller is responsible for calculating the following specific parameters of the solar field, etc.: calculating the sun vector, calculating the reflected beam, refraction correction, calculating the desired position of the sun reflector or heliostat, its state, offset adjustment, alarms, etc. Furthermore, the central controller also performs other functions not specific to the solar field, such as cloud detection, measuring meteorological parameters, calculating solar flux, calculating dirt levels, assessing the need for cleaning and repair operations, and according to the invention, these functions may be fully or partially undertaken by suitably grouped mirror assemblies.
Thus, the intelligent solar field or intelligent field incorporates in the first reflector according to the invention at least one mirror, i.e. integrating at least one sensor, connection means and power supply means, and preferably a processor, in the latter case producing an intelligent mirror, which also incorporates an external processor, which may be located in another intelligent mirror of the second reflector or in a device having a processor in the solar field, such as a central controller. According to the invention, the mirrors comprised in the intelligent solar field or intelligent field will be able to share with each other and/or with other elements of the solar field or plant that are not mirrors, the information collected and/or generated by the sensors and generating additional information based on the available information. Thus, the smart farm can not only provide information of interest for managing the solar farm, but can also incorporate self-diagnostic capabilities that can operate autonomously or semi-autonomously based on the information provided by its mirrors, reduce the need for communication with the central controller, and even assume some of its features.
Thus, and based on fig. 17 and 18, there are two main modes for implementing a mirror interaction and management system for solar reflectors in a commercial solar farm or plant, in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 17 shows the central operation of a central management system or central receiver plant with heliostats, where preferably at least one mirror of each heliostat has integrated sensors, connection means and power supply means, and preferably a processor, which may or may not be integrated in the sensors, and if it is not integrated therein, the processor should be integrated in the mirror (creating a smart mirror), the processor outside the mirror, in this case a central control unit. By means of the system, the mirrors, preferably intelligent mirrors, perform operations to evaluate their own state and/or environment, interact with adjacent elements, process data and generate information which they subsequently communicate with a central control unit or other local controller, so that they incorporate this information into their analysis, thereby enabling the operation of the solar plant to be improved. The information generated and exchanged between the different components of the plant is managed by a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. Similarly, other elements in the field, such as solar receivers of parabolic trough reflectors or other monitoring systems, such as solar flux measurement systems concentrated in tower plants, may utilize the information and/or signals provided by these mirrors in order to improve their operation.
Fig. 18 shows a decentralized management system, where the mirrors of the central receiver plant with heliostats, also preferably intelligent mirrors, do not transmit the information they collect and/or generate to the central controller, but based on the information and its capacity they generate instructions for the operation of the solar field, partly or totally undertake the tasks of the central control unit, be able to perform them themselves or share them with other elements arranged in the solar field or other external processors in the local installation. In this case, only the information necessary to manage other elements of the plant and the minimal information necessary to perform field tasks, which can be undertaken by the intelligent solar field or intelligent field, is communicated to a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.
In addition to the above, there are intermediate options where part of the decision is made by intelligent mirrors that are able to generate instructions for controlling the reflectors or other elements of the solar field, while the central control unit maintains general control of the plant, commands a part of the instructions to manipulate the solar field and/or information provided by the mirrors utilizing the object of the invention.
The foregoing embodiments are merely some of the construction possibilities for the inventive purposes of the present application and should not be considered as limiting.
