Technical Field

The disclosed technology, generally described below, provides antifouling dispersant compositions and methods, and more particularly, antifouling dispersant compositions and methods of reducing fouling in Methanol To Olefin (MTO) water cleaning systems, wherein the compositions comprise an alcohol polyoxyethylene (EO) ether (EO number 1-14).

Background

Typically, MTO (methanol to olefin) reactors produce light olefins and some hydrocarbon by-products such as aromatic hydrocarbons, including hexamethylbenzene, pentamethylbenzene, tetramethylbenzene, and the like. However, these hydrocarbon by-products are strongly hydrophobic compounds and will settle in the water wash column, causing serious fouling problems. The organic foulants in MTO water cleaning systems consist of hexamethylbenzene as the major component and some minor components such as pentamethylbenzene, tetramethylbenzene, and the like. These foulants will cause a reduction in the efficiency of the water wash column, reducing its operating duration and causing negative effects on olefin production. Accordingly, there is a need in the art for antifouling dispersant compositions and methods effective in eliminating the problem of severe fouling in MTO water scrubber systems.

Detailed Description

The disclosed technology, generally described below, provides compositions and methods for antifouling dispersant compositions and methods effective to eliminate severe fouling problems in MTO water scrubber systems. The antifouling dispersant composition is effective in inhibiting scale formation and removing foulants in MTO water wash towers to extend their run length and ensure smooth MTO operation.

The present technology provides an antifouling dispersant composition. The antifouling dispersant composition is very stable without any deterioration during the MTO process, ensuring consistent effective antifouling performance. The antifouling dispersant composition is soluble in water and will not produce any contaminants during the MTO production process.

The antifouling dispersant composition additionally provides general applicability in that the composition can reach a very low freezing point of less than-25 ℃. The very low freezing point of the composition provides beneficial and convenient handling advantages for MTO units, especially in cold weather. The MTO unit is located in a remote location and there is little heating of the dispersant storage area, tanks and feed lines. Current products available on the market indicate a higher freezing point, which will lead to product freezing problems, phase separation problems, too high a viscosity to feed in cold weather, and in turn to MTO production problems such as production fluctuations, fouling, occasional shutdowns, and the like.

In some embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition of the present technology comprises an alcoholic polyethylene oxide (EO) ether (EO number 1-14), represented by the following general formula

Figure 478512DEST_PATH_IMAGE002

(I),

Wherein R is an alkyl group having about 3 to 20 carbon atoms; and n is 1 to 14. The EO number represents the number of ethylene oxide units. The EO number is important as it provides good dispersant efficacy to inhibit MTO organic fouling.

In some embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition further comprises water and/or one or more organic solvents. In some embodiments, the composition comprises from about 0% to about 95% water, in other embodiments from about 10% to about 80% water, in other embodiments from about 15% to about 70% water, and in other embodiments, from about 20% to about 60% water.

In some embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition comprises from about 0% to about 95% organic solvent, in some embodiments from about 10% to about 80% organic solvent, in other embodiments from about 15% to about 70% organic solvent, and in other embodiments, from about 20% to about 60% solvent.

In some embodiments, the organic solvent comprises an alcohol, a glycol ether, glycerol, or a pyrrolidone. In some embodiments, the organic solvent comprises methanol, ethanol, isopropanol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, ethylene glycol monopropyl ether, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, diethylene glycol monomethyl ether, diethylene glycol monoethyl ether, diethylene glycol monopropyl ether, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, glycerol, triethylene glycol, 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, or a combination thereof.

In some embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition further comprises one or more alkylphenol resin ethoxylates represented by the following general formula

Figure 395652DEST_PATH_IMAGE004

(II),

Wherein the content of the first and second substances,R 1 is C3-C18 alkyl, the number m of ethoxylate groups (EO) is in the range of 1-50, and the degree of polymerization of the resinpIs in the range of 0-20.

In some embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition comprises from about 0% to about 60% alkylphenol resin ethoxylate, in other embodiments from about 10% to about 50% alkylphenol resin ethoxylate, and in other embodiments, from about 15% to about 45% alkylphenol resin ethoxylate.

In some embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition comprises about 0-95% water, about 0-95% organic solvent, and 0-60% alkylphenol resin ethoxylate.

The present technology further provides a method of reducing fouling in a Methanol To Olefin (MTO) water wash system. The method comprises adding an antifouling dispersant composition to a Methanol To Olefin (MTO) water wash tower, the antifouling dispersant composition comprising an alcohol polyoxyethylene (EO) ether (EO number 1-14), represented by the following general formula

Figure 175390DEST_PATH_IMAGE005

(I),

Wherein R is an alkyl group having about 3 to 20 carbon atoms; and n is 1 to 14.

In some embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition comprises from about 1 ppm to about 1000ppm of the antifouling dispersant composition added to a Methanol To Olefins (MTO) water wash column.

In some embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition is continuously injected into the MTO water wash tower. Continuous feed antifouling dispersant compositions are preferred to effectively disperse small particles, avoid their agglomeration into larger size particles and inhibit fouling material settling in MTO water cleaning systems. In other embodiments, the antifouling dispersant composition is injected intermittently into the MTO water wash column. Intermittent feed antifouling dispersant compositions are acceptable for inhibiting fouling in MTO water cleaning systems. If the antifouling dispersant composition is fed intermittently, water recycle to the MTO water wash system is recommended.
