Technical Field

The field of application of the invention is in the industrial field of endeavour to manufacture safety and control devices and installations. In particular, focus is being placed on the field of fire suppression systems.

Background

Although some fire extinguishing systems have safety devices that trigger an alarm or warning in case of an abnormal situation, in the installation of the head, most fire extinguishing systems do not even trigger an alarm or warning, these devices only controlling whether the head is correctly installed, but do not detect the perfect installation of the head, which means that the device signals the correct position in the control room, with damaging consequences, even if the head is simply put in place on the head without being screwed down.

The object of the present invention is therefore to develop a novel safety device which, in addition to controlling the mounting of a head with a discharge valve for extinguishing fires on a bottle, cartridge or reservoir of fluid, also controls the correct position of said head on the bottle, cartridge or reservoir, ensuring that the head has been fully screwed, detecting the absence of non-screwed parts, and thus ensuring that the head has been properly mounted for correct operation.

On the other hand, it should be said that, as a reference to the state of the art, at least the applicant is not aware of the existence of any other safety monitoring device for fire extinguishing systems or of any other invention with similar applications, having technical and structural features identical or similar to those claimed herein.

Disclosure of Invention

The safety monitoring device for fire extinguishing systems proposed by the present invention is therefore novel in its field of application, since the above mentioned objects are satisfactorily achieved when implementing the safety monitoring device, the characteristic details of which are apparent in the appended claims making it possible and easily distinguishable.

In particular, as mentioned above, the invention proposes an electronic device applicable to the heads of fire extinguishing systems of gases, dry powders, water, foams, etc., the function of which is to activate the discharge valve or device, the purpose of which is to constantly control the correct installation of the head, warning the control room, programmable automata or other control mechanism of the fire extinguishing system if the head is not installed correctly.

To this end, the device comprises sensors connected to the electronic board and to the power supply line, in particular, end-of-line tiny buttons incorporated in a housing suitable for being mounted on the various types of heads of existing fire extinguishing systems of gas, dry powder, water, foam, etc., which is vital for activating the discharge valves or discharge means of the fire extinguishing, control and fighting systems. The device constantly controls whether the head (which may be electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, manual, etc.) is fully tightened, because if the head is not tightened, the line end can alert the control system to improper head installation.

This therefore avoids: if the operator makes some mistake in installing the device or if the activation switch is opened during a maintenance task, it may result in actual discharge of the system, or, conversely, if the activation switch is removed, the system cannot be activated in the event of an actual fire.

More specifically, the apparatus of the present invention has: an inner nut, perfectly connected to the support of the head, between the discharge valve and the activation head; and an outer case in which the wiring connecting the wire ends is located.

Furthermore, the housing is rotatable so that it can be rotated about the inner nut to enable the device to be placed in an optimal or most convenient position for each installation.

The rotary housing has a fastening bolt to enable tightening of the inner nut, when correctly screwed, the bolt is removed, the housing is placed in the desired position, and the housing is fastened by a locking screw to remain fastened in the final position.

As for the electronic parts, they include: an end-of-line button that can be turned on (NA) or off (NC); a printed circuit board; and a power panel from which four wires lead out, two of which are connected to the control room or system of the fire fighting equipment for monitoring and the other two are connected to the line terminals, in such a way as to constitute a monitoring circuit, or for series or parallel connection with the following safety monitoring devices incorporated in other or successive bottles, cartridges or reservoirs of the fire fighting system.

The safety monitoring device of the invention has a high precision and high sensitivity of detection, since it is able to detect an improper screwing of the device below the omission of one thread, in fact, although in theory the device will activate the fire extinguishing system, it will give a signal of improper installation for safety purposes, since if the head is not correctly placed it may cause the system to operate poorly, thus not activating the equipment correctly.

It is important to point out this feature because most of these control devices, as described in the paragraph above, only control whether the head is mounted or not, but they do not detect the correct mounting of the head, which means that even if the device is simply put in its place without actually being screwed, these control devices will give a signal of the correct position in the control room, which will cause a mischief.

On the other hand, such a situation may occur: the given direction, given according to the installation requirements, makes the head unscrew poorly, and therefore the device of the invention advantageously makes it impossible to perfectly install the head, as previously described, before it reaches its rest position, as long as the locking elements are removed and they are rotated towards the optimal installation direction, since the head can rotate around itself to be placed in the desired position.

The disclosed safety monitoring device for fire extinguishing systems therefore comprises an innovative structure having features heretofore unknown for its design purpose, together with its practical reasons, providing a sufficient basis for obtaining the exclusive privilege as filed.

Detailed Description

In the above-mentioned figures, and in accordance with the reference numerals employed in the figures, a non-limiting example of a safety monitoring device for a fire extinguishing system of the present invention can be observed, which comprises the components and elements set out and disclosed in detail in the following.

Thus, as observed in said figures, the device of the invention comprises: a body (1) connectable to an activation head (2) of any type of fire extinguishing system (for example a bottle (3), cartridge or reservoir of gas, dry powder, water, foam), which may be electrically, pneumatically, hydraulically or manually activated, the activation head (2) being screwed between discharge valves (5) or devices and the activation head (2) usually incorporating a fluid outlet (6) having a sensor (7), which sensor (7) is connected to an electronic board (8) and, through the electronic board (8), to a control room, programmable automaton or other control mechanism (not shown in the figures) of the fire extinguishing system, the sensor (7) detecting whether the head (2) is correctly screwed on the valve (5) or on the fire extinguishing system, which means detecting whether the discharge valve (5) or the device allows the activation head (2) to be fully screwed, if not fully screwed, a signal is sent to said control room of the equipment.

Preferably, said sensor (7) is present on a push-button of the line end, which is open (NA) or closed (NC), arranged to be connected behind the protective cover (18) so that it protrudes in the lower part of the body (1), so that, when the activation device (2) is completely screwed with the valve (5), said sensor (7) is activated by the surface of the valve (5) and closes the safety circuit.

The sensor (7) is housed behind the protective cover (18) together with the electronic board (8) and the power board (10). The wiring (11) is led out from the power supply board (10), passes through the sealing cover (12) and is connected with the control room, and is optionally connected with other cylinders (3) or fire extinguishing systems of the same or different equipment in series or in parallel.

It is important to point out that, in order to connect the main body (1) to the bottle (3), the reservoir or the valve (5) of the fire extinguishing system, the internal nut (13) is provided with a thread for mounting the internal nut (13) on the valve (5), the valve (5) is mounted in the housing (9) of the body of the main body (1) and allows free rotation of the main body (1) so as to be able to position the main body (1) in any position and to select the position that is most suitable for mounting in each case, as shown in figures 3 and 4.

For screwing and locking the body (1), the inner nut (13) has: a through transverse hole (14) adapted to be inserted by a fastening bolt (16); and an upper thickened portion (15) provided with a head portion to facilitate handling, which allows the strength required for the fastening to be applied. Furthermore, the body (1) has a lug (20), into which lug (20) the end of the bolt (16) is inserted for locking. After the desired position has been selected, the body (1) has side threads (17) for fastening the body (1), which side threads (17) are adapted to be inserted by a locking screw (21), which locking screw (21) interlocks, being caught in the inner nut (13), when the locking screw (21) passes through the housing wall (9).

Finally, it should be pointed out that the protective covers (18) covering the sensors (7), the buttons of the terminals, the electronic board (8) and the power board (10) are fastened laterally on the body (1) by means of respective fastening screws (19), which allow easy disassembly to access them and allow maintenance or replacement in case of deterioration, malfunction or poor contact.

The nature of the invention and the manner of putting it into effect have been disclosed sufficiently that it is not necessary to expand its explanation in order to enable one skilled in the art to understand its scope and the advantages that result therefrom, and it should be noted that it may be implemented in other embodiments than those set forth in detail for the purpose of illustration per se, and that the protection sought may be extended to this embodiment without altering, changing or modifying its basic principle.
