1. A cylindrical rod for an aerosol-generating article, the cylindrical rod comprising a rod component surrounded by a wrapper; the wrap includes:

-laterally opposite edge portions overlapping to form an overlapping area, wherein the overlapping area comprises an inner layer of the wrapper and an outer layer of the wrapper, and wherein the outer layer of the wrapper comprises an inner surface of the outer layer of the wrapper positioned adjacent to the inner layer of the wrapper;

-applying glue between the overlapping edge portions of the wrapper so as to form one or more glue areas within the overlapping areas; and

-a plurality of cavities, wherein at least a part of said cavities are arranged in the area of said one or more glue areas; it is characterized in that

The inner surface of the outer layer of the wrap comprises a cavity that does not completely penetrate the wrap so as to define a recess in the wrap, and

the inner layer of the wrap in the overlap region includes a cavity that penetrates completely through the wrap to define a through hole in the wrap.

2. The cylindrical strip of claim 1, wherein the wrap comprises a cavity only in the overlap region.

3. The cylindrical strip of claim 2, wherein the wrap comprises cavities only in the one or more glue areas.

4. A cylindrical strip according to any preceding claim, wherein the recesses in the outer layer of the wrap coincide with the through-holes in the inner layer of the wrap.

5. A cylindrical strip according to any preceding claim, wherein the cavities are arranged in one or more lines parallel to the longitudinal axis of the strip.

6. The cylindrical bar of claim 5, wherein the cavities are equidistantly arranged in a line with a nearest neighbor distance between 0.1 millimeters and 0.3 millimeters, between 0.15 millimeters and 0.25 millimeters, or about 0.2 millimeters.

7. A cylindrical strip according to any preceding claim, wherein the outer layer of the wrap comprises an outer surface of the outer layer of the wrap opposite an inner surface of the outer layer of the wrap, and wherein the outer surface of the outer layer of the wrap does not comprise any cavities.

8. A cylindrical strip according to any preceding claim, wherein only an inner layer of the wrapper comprises through holes.

9. The cylindrical strip of any preceding claim, wherein the glue penetrates completely through at least one of the through-holes, such that the glue bonds the strip component to the wrap.

10. The cylindrical bar of any preceding claim, wherein the wrap has a thickness of between 0.02 millimeters and 0.2 millimeters, between 0.05 millimeters and 0.15 millimeters, or about 0.1 millimeters, and wherein the diameter of each through hole is less than four times the thickness of the wrap.

11. A cylindrical bar according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the diameter of each through hole is less than 0.4 mm, or wherein the diameter of each through hole is between 0.05 mm and 0.35 mm, between 0.1 mm and 0.3 mm or about 0.2 mm.

12. An aerosol-generating article comprising a cylindrical rod according to any of claims 1 to 11 and an aerosol-generating material.

13. A method for producing a cylindrical rod for an aerosol-generating article, comprising the steps of:

(a) providing a wrapper;

(b) providing a plurality of cavities in a lateral edge portion of the wrap;

(c) providing a strip member;

(d) placing the strip member on a surface of the wrap;

(e) applying glue on lateral edge portions of the wrapper; and

(f) surrounding the strip component with the wrap such that laterally opposite edge portions of the wrap define an overlap region of the wrap, wherein the overlap region comprises an inner layer of the wrap and an outer layer of the wrap, and wherein the outer layer of the wrap comprises an inner surface of the outer layer of the wrap positioned adjacent to the inner layer of the wrap; and such that the gluing zone defines one or more glue zones within said overlapping zone, wherein

At least a portion of the cavity is disposed in the area of the one or more glue regions; it is characterized in that

The inner surface of the outer layer of the wrap comprises a cavity that does not completely penetrate the wrap so as to define a recess in the wrap, and

the inner layer of the wrap in the overlap region includes a cavity that penetrates completely through the wrap to define a through hole in the wrap.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the recess in the outer layer of the wrap coincides with the through hole in the inner layer of the wrap.

15. The method of claim 13 or claim 14, wherein the outer layer of the wrap comprises an outer surface of the outer layer of the wrap opposite an inner surface of the outer layer of the wrap, and wherein the outer surface of the outer layer of the wrap does not comprise any cavities.
