1. A medical device comprising at least one substrate provided with a coating, wherein the coating comprises a functional layer, characterized in that:

the functional layer comprises at least one sugar alcohol and is directly or indirectly bound to the substrate by means of functionalization of the sugar alcohol.

2. The medical device of claim 1, wherein: the coating includes a carrier layer on the substrate and containing an adhesion promoter, wherein the functional layer is bonded to the carrier layer.

3. The medical device of claim 2, wherein: the bonding of the adhesion promoter to the substrate and/or the bonding of the functional layer to the carrier layer is covalent bonding.

4. The medical device of claim 2 or 3, wherein: the adhesion promoter comprises a silicon compound, in particular a silane compound.

5. The medical device according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein: sugar alcohols of said functional layer in unfunctionalized, oxidized or dehydrated form includeAt least one molecule of formula C6H14O6Sugar alcohol and/or a derivative thereof.

6. The medical device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein: the sugar alcohol of the functional layer in a form not bound to the carrier layer or the substrate is functionalized via at least one reactive multiple bond, in particular a double bond.

7. The medical device of claim 6, wherein: the reactive double bond is a component of the (meth) acrylic group.

8. The medical device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein: the sugar alcohols of the functional layer are at least partially oligomerized or polymerized with each other.

9. A medical device comprising at least one substrate provided with a coating, wherein the coating comprises a functional layer, characterized in that:

the functional layer comprises at least one monosaccharide, wherein the monosaccharide can be directly or indirectly attached to the substrate by functionalization of the monosaccharide, and oligomerization or polymerization thereof occurs only after binding to the substrate.

10. The medical device of claim 9, wherein: the coating includes a carrier layer on the substrate and containing an adhesion promoter, wherein the functional layer is bonded to the carrier layer.

11. The medical device of claim 10, wherein: the bonding of the adhesion promoter to the substrate and/or the bonding of the functional layer to the carrier layer is covalent bonding.

12. The medical device of claim 10 or 11, wherein: the adhesion promoter comprises a silicon compound, in particular a silane compound.

13. The medical device according to any one of claims 9 to 12, wherein: said monosaccharide of said functional layer in its non-functionalized form comprises a sugar alcohol and/or a derivative thereof.

14. The medical device of claim 13, wherein: the sugar alcohol of said functional layer in its unfunctionalized, oxidized or dehydrated form comprises at least one molecule of formula C6H14O6Sugar alcohol and/or a derivative thereof.

15. The medical device according to any one of claims 9 to 14, wherein: the monosaccharide of the functional layer in a form not bound to the carrier layer or the substrate is functionalized via at least one reactive multiple bond, in particular a double bond.

16. The medical device of claim 15, wherein: the reactive double bond is a component of the (meth) acrylic group.

17. The medical device of any one of claims 9-16, wherein: the monosaccharides of the functional layer are at least partially oligomerized or polymerized with each other.

18. The medical device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein: the substrate comprises at least one metal selected from the group comprising: nickel, titanium, platinum, iridium, gold, cobalt, chromium, aluminum, iron, and/or alloys thereof.

19. The medical device of any one of claims 1-17, wherein: the substrate comprises at least one plastic material selected from the group comprising: polyamides (PA), Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE), Polylactide (PLA), polyesters, polyethers, polyurethanes, polyolefins, and related block copolymers.

20. The medical device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein: the medical device is a medical device for intravascular application.

21. The medical device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein: the medical device is a medical device for neurovascular applications.

22. The medical device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein: the medical device is a medical device for cardiovascular applications.
