Technical Field

the invention relates to a system and a method for processing and packaging documents of value, in particular banknotes, according to the independent claims.

Background

in the automatic processing of documents of value, for example banknotes, their various properties are checked in the processing device and sorted accordingly. In addition to the direct feeding of the destroyed value documents, after the processing, the value documents are usually first bundled with a belt into a bundle and then bundled into a bundle. The bundles are then fed into a packaging device, in which one or more bundles are packaged into a packaging unit.

If the packaging device or the transport device which transports the bundles of documents of value to the packaging device cannot receive further bundles because its receiving capacity is temporarily exhausted, the automatic processing (i.e. the checking and/or sorting of the documents of value in the processing device) is usually stopped immediately in order to prevent these bundles from becoming jammed in the packaging device and/or the transport device uncontrollably. However, this reduces the throughput of value documents processed per unit time in the processing device.

disclosure of Invention

It is an object of the invention to propose a system and a method for processing and packaging value documents, which system and method ensure that the throughput of the processed value documents is as high as possible.

This object is achieved by a system and a method for processing and packaging documents of value, in particular banknotes, according to the independent claims.

the system according to the invention for processing and packaging value documents, in particular banknotes, has: a processing device adapted to process the value documents, in particular to inspect, sort and/or destroy the value documents; at least one binding device adapted to bind the processed value documents into bundles and/or to bind a plurality of bundles of processed value documents bound into bundles into a respective one; a packaging device adapted to package one or more packs and/or bundles; and a conveying device adapted to feed one or more packs and/or bundles to the packaging apparatus. Furthermore, at least one storage device is provided, which is adapted to receive one or more packs and/or bundles; and control means adapted to control the at least one storage means such that one or more packs and/or bundles can be temporarily stored in the storage means when the conveying means and/or the packaging device can no longer receive any further packs and/or bundles.

The method according to the invention for processing and packaging value documents, in particular banknotes, has the following steps: the method comprises the steps of processing the value documents, in particular for inspection, sorting and/or destruction, bundling the processed value documents into bundles and/or bundling one or more processed value documents bundled into a respective bundle, feeding the bundles and/or bundles to a packaging device by means of a conveying device, and packaging one or more bundles and/or bundles in the packaging device. When the conveying device and/or the packaging installation can no longer receive any further packs and/or bundles, one or more packs and/or bundles are temporarily stored in at least one storage device.

one aspect of the invention is based on a method of temporarily storing bundles of documents of value and/or bundles of value combined from bundles of documents of value in one or more locations in a processing device when the packaging device and/or a conveying means conveying the bundles and/or bundles to the packaging device can no longer receive any further bundles and/or bundles. This enables further value documents to be processed, in particular checked, and temporarily stored in the form of packs, stacks of packs and/or bundles in the relevant position in the processing device until the packaging device and/or the conveying device can receive further bundles again. It is therefore not necessary to stop the banknote processing in the case of a wrapping device and/or a conveying device conveying bundles to the wrapping device temporarily being unable to receive further bundles for at least a period of time, so that the throughput of value documents processed in the processing device is not affected. Instead, the processing of the value documents needs to be stopped only when the capacity of the processing device for storing packs, stacks of packs and/or bundles is exhausted.

in summary, this ensures that the throughput during the processing of value documents in the processing device remains high even in the event of temporary fluctuations in the receiving capacity of the packaging device and/or of the conveying device.

preferably, at least one first bundling means is provided which is adapted to bundle the processed value documents into bundles and at least one second bundling means is provided which is adapted to bundle one or more bundles into a respective one of the bundles. Furthermore, at least one first storage means, in particular a transfer opening, is provided which is adapted to receive at least one bundle, wherein the control means for controlling the first storage means are configured to temporarily store the bundle in the first storage means when the conveying means and/or the packaging device can no longer receive any further bundles, and/or to transfer the bundle to the conveying means and/or the packaging device when the conveying means and/or the packaging device can receive at least one further bundle. In this embodiment, in the event of a temporary exhaustion of the capacity of the conveying device and/or the packaging unit to receive further bundles, the bundles that have been completed in the second strapping device can be received and transferred to the transfer opening of the conveying device and/or the packaging unit or a correspondingly configured transfer device preferably serves as an intermediate storage for at least one bundle. The processing of the further value documents in the processing device is preferably continued or not stopped during the time at which the at least one bundle is stored in the first storage means, so that the throughput of the processing device is not affected.

Furthermore, at least one second storage device is preferably provided, in particular in the form of a bundling position arranged in the region of the second bundling device, which is adapted to receive at least one bundle bundled with one or more stacked bundles, wherein the control device for controlling the second storage device is configured to temporarily store the bundle in the second storage device when the first storage device (in particular the transfer opening) can no longer receive any further bundles and/or to transfer the bundle to the first storage device when the first storage device can receive at least one further bundle. In this embodiment, the bundling position (position where the bundles are placed after bundling) arranged in the second bundling means is preferably used as an intermediate storage for the bundles if the capacity of the first storage means, in particular the transfer opening, to receive further bundles is then temporarily exhausted. In this case, the second strapping means serves, in addition to the first storage means (in particular in the form of a transfer opening), as a further internal buffer storage for storing at least one further bundle, so that the processing device can continue to process further value documents for a correspondingly longer time, so that the throughput of the processing device remains correspondingly higher for a correspondingly longer time.

Preferably, the control device is configured to control the processing device such that processing, in particular checking and/or sorting, of further value documents is stopped only if the second storage device (in particular in the form of a bundling position in the second storage device) can no longer receive any further bundles. This ensures that, when bundling the value documents, the second bundling means and/or the second storage means are/is not overflowed by further processed value documents.

Preferably, at least one third storage device, in particular a bale stacker, may be provided, which is adapted to receive a plurality of bales stacked as a stack, wherein the control device for controlling the third storage device is configured such that the stack is temporarily stored in the third storage device when the second bundling device and/or the second storage device can no longer receive any further stacks, and/or is transferred to the second bundling device and/or the second storage device when the second bundling device and/or the second storage device can receive at least one further stack. In this embodiment, the bale stacker continues to stack the bundled bales until the number of bales in the stack reaches a predetermined number and/or the stacked bales reach a predetermined height, and is preferably used as an intermediate storage for bales when the capacity of the subsequent second bundling and/or second storage device to receive further stacks or other bales is temporarily exhausted. In this case, in addition to the first storage device (in particular in the form of a transfer opening) and the second bundling device and/or the second storage device, the bale stacker is used as a further internal buffer storage device for storing at least one stack of bales that have not been bundled. Accordingly, further value documents can be processed in the processing device for a period of time, whereby the throughput of the processing device can be kept high for a longer time.

Preferably, the control device is further configured to control the processing device such that the processing, in particular the checking and/or sorting, of further value documents is stopped only if the third storage device can no longer receive any further packs and/or further stacks. Furthermore, the control device can preferably be configured to control the processing device such that processing, in particular checking and/or sorting, of further value documents is stopped only if the first storage device and/or the second storage device are also not able to receive any further bundles. This ensures that the processing of the value documents is not stopped until the internal buffer capacity of all three storage devices, i.e. preferably the transfer opening, the second strapping device and the packet stacker, is exhausted. In the case of a temporary failure of the conveying device and/or the packaging device to receive bundles, therefore, further value documents can continue to be processed for a long time, thereby ensuring a particularly high throughput of the processing device.

drawings

further advantages, features and application possibilities of the invention will become apparent from the following description with reference to the drawings. In the drawings:

FIG. 1 is an example of a system for processing and packaging value documents; and

Fig. 2 is an example for explaining the bundling and packaging sequence of value documents.

Detailed Description

Fig. 1 shows an example of a system for processing and packaging documents of value, in particular banknotes, with a banknote processing machine 100. The banknotes supplied in the input slot 110 are respectively drawn out of the input slot 110 by the singulator 111 and transported along the transport path 120 past one or more sensors 112, in which physical properties of the banknotes are detected and converted into corresponding sensor signals, which are taken into account in the control device 180, for example for detecting and/or checking the authenticity and/or state of the banknotes.

the control device 180 controls the switches 121, 123 or 124 arranged along the transport path 120 in order to send the banknotes, depending on the result of the identification and/or check, to the different stackers 130, 140 or 150, which are preferably so-called spiral flute stackers, or to the shredder 125 for destruction.

The banknotes output in the respective stacker 130, 140 or 150 are combined in one respective pack in the packer 132, 142 or 152 and are preferably bundled using a tape. The finished bales are then sent to a bale stacker 133, 143 or 153 where they are stacked into stacks of bales. When the respective stack of packets contains a predetermined number of packets or reaches a predetermined stack height, it is fed to a binder 134, 144 or 154, in which the packets placed in the stack are combined into a bundle and, for example, sealed in a foil sleeve.

The completed bundles are then transferred to transfer openings 135, 145 or 155, which transfer the respective bundles to a conveying device 160, by which the bundles are transferred to a packaging device 165, in which one or more bundles are combined and packaged in a packaging box provided for this purpose. The package may be, for example, a preformed container into which the bale is loaded and subsequently closed. Alternatively, one or more bales may be packaged in a flexible packaging material, for example, sealed to a packaging foil. The package obtained in this case, enclosing the bundle, can then be further used or processed, for example further transported and/or stored, as indicated by arrow 170.

In the case where the banknotes in the input slot 110 can be processed at any time, the packs are continuously produced, bundled into a bundle, and the bundle is transferred to the transport device 160 through the transfer port 135, 145 or 155. Depending on the particular application, it may happen that the receiving capacity of the delivery device 160 and/or the wrapping device 165 is temporarily exhausted and the device and/or the device can no longer receive other bundles. In order to avoid in this case an immediate stop of the processing of other banknotes in the banknote processing machine 100, one or more bundles and/or packs are temporarily stored in the banknote processing machine 100 without the bundles being transferred to the conveying device 160 and/or the packaging arrangement 165. When the conveyor 160 and/or the packaging device 165 can subsequently receive the bundles again and convey and/or package them, the stored packs or bundles are transferred to the respective subsequent stations, i.e. to the binders 134, 144 or 154, to the transfer openings 135, 145 or 155 and/or to the conveyor 160.

The pack stacker 133, 143 or 153 and/or the binder 134, 144 or 154 and/or the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155 are preferably provided as storage means, which individually or together form an internal buffer for storing the processed value documents. Preferably, the processing of further bank notes in the bank note processing machine 100 has to be stopped only when the receiving capacity of these internal buffers (i.e. the packet stacker and/or the binder and/or the transfer opening) is exhausted. In this way, the throughput of the banknote processing machine is not reduced in the event that the conveyor 160 and/or the packaging device 165 cannot receive bundles temporarily.

Depending on the particular application and system configuration, the transfer ports 135, 145, or 155, the strappers 134, 144, or 154, and/or the packet stackers 133, 143, or 153 are preferably controlled by the control device 180 as follows:

a) When a bale is placed into transfer port 135, 145 or 155, it is ejected and transferred to conveyor 160 only if conveyor 160 is able to receive other bales. If, on the other hand, the conveying device 160 can no longer receive any further bundles, the bundles are first stored in the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155 without stopping the banknote processing machine 100. When the transport device 160 can again receive further bundles, the bundles stored in the transfer openings 135, 145 or 155 are ejected and transferred to the transport device 160.

b) After bundling (e.g., in a foil sleeve), the completed bale is placed into a bundling position in the binder 134, 144 or 154 and transferred to the transfer port 135, 145 or 155 only if the transfer port 135, 145 or 155 is able to receive a new bale. When the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155 has been occupied by one or more bundles, the bundles are retained in the strapping position in the strapper 134, 144 or 154 until the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155 can again receive one or more bundles. In this case, the processing of further documents of value in the banknote processing machine 100 is preferably only stopped if the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155 is occupied and a bundle is stored in the bundling position of the binder 134, 144 or 154.

c) The processing of further documents of value in the banknote processing machine 100 continues when a plurality of bundled packs is placed in the pack stacker 133, 143 or 153, and the processing of further documents of value in the banknote processing machine 100 is stopped only when a predetermined number of packs are placed in the pack stacker 133, 143 or 153 during a subsequent bundling process and at least one bundle has been placed in the binder 134, 144 or 154 and in the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155, respectively.

Thus, in the case of application a) the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155 is used as an intermediate storage device for one or more bundles, while in the case of application b) the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155 and the strapping 134, 144 or 154 are used as intermediate storage devices. Finally, in the application case c), in addition to the transfer opening 135, 145 or 155 and the binder 134, 144 or 154, the packet stacker 133, 143 or 153 is also used as an intermediate storage device. Depending on the number and size of the intermediate storage devices used, a possible stoppage of the processing process in the banknote processing machine 100 can be delayed for a correspondingly long time.

fig. 2 shows an example of a bundling and packaging sequence of value documents. The banknotes 1 output one after the other at the stacker 130 of the banknote processing machine 100 are first stacked loosely and then fed into a packer 132, in which the banknotes are bundled into a bundle 3 (for example with a band 2) in the packer 132.

The packs 3 are then fed to the pack stacker 133 and stacked therein until the obtained stack 4 contains a predetermined number of packs 3 and/or reaches a predetermined height. When the stack 4 has reached a predetermined package height or number, the stack is transferred to a binder 134 and sealed in a packaging foil 6 or wrapped with a packaging tape, so that a bundle 5 is obtained.

The bundle 5 containing the package 3 is then fed into a transfer opening 135, which transfers the bundle 5 to a conveying device 160, which conveying device 160 conveys the bundle to a packaging apparatus 165, in which packaging apparatus 165 a plurality of bundles 5, in particular a predetermined number, are combined and packaged.

As shown by the dashed lines in fig. 2, the stacker 130, the packer 132, the bale stacker 133, the binder 134 and the transfer opening 135 are preferably components of the banknote processing machine 100 (see fig. 1), downstream of which the conveying device 160 and the packaging machine 165 are connected.

As explained above in connection with the example shown in fig. 1, the transfer opening 135 and/or the binder 134 and/or the packet stacker 133 serve as an internal buffer of the banknote processing machine 100, respectively, for temporarily storing one or more bundles 5 or packets 3 in the banknote processing machine 100 when the conveying device 160 and/or the packaging device 165 are temporarily no longer able to receive any further bundles 5. The description made above in connection with fig. 1 applies correspondingly to the example shown in fig. 2.
