1. A seismic survey system for exploring seafloor minerals, comprising: a first vessel having a first seismic source and a seismic detector associated therewith; and a second vessel having a second seismic source associated therewith; wherein the seismic detectors are arranged to receive acoustic signals resulting from reflection and/or refraction by the seabed of acoustic signals emitted from both the first and second seismic sources.

2. The system of claim 1, the seismic detector being a streamer comprising a plurality of hydrophones towed by the first vessel.

3. The system of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the second vessel is located behind the first vessel in its direction of travel and preferably at a distance behind the first vessel that is greater than 1.5 times the water depth.

4. The system of any preceding claim, wherein the triggering of the first seismic source and the second seismic source is synchronized.

5. The system of any preceding claim, wherein the first seismic source and the second seismic source are triggered simultaneously.

6. The system of any preceding claim, wherein the seismic detector is arranged to detect acoustic signals emitted by the first source and reflected by the sea bed to the seismic detector.

7. The system of any preceding claim, wherein the seismic detector is arranged to detect acoustic signals emitted by the second source and propagating as a bow wave along the seabed before being detected by the seismic detector.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein the head wave comprises a P-wave and preferably further comprises an S-wave.

9. The system of claim 7 or 8, wherein the signal emitted by the second source is used to determine a propagation velocity in the sea bed or a parameter indicative thereof.

10. The system of claim 9, wherein the determined propagation velocity is used in combination with the determined estimate of the reflection coefficient at the seabed to determine a value for the density of the seabed.

11. A system as claimed in any preceding claim arranged to determine an estimate of the density of the seabed and hence the likelihood of the presence of a sulphide deposit.

12. The system of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the second vessel is a site survey vessel.

13. A method of performing a seismic survey for exploring seafloor minerals, comprising:

a. providing a first vessel having a first seismic source and a seismic detector associated therewith

b. Providing a second vessel having a second seismic source associated therewith;

c. transmitting signals from the first seismic source and the second seismic source;

d. receiving, using the seismic detectors, acoustic signals resulting from reflections and/or refractions of seabed on acoustic signals emitted from both the first and second seismic sources.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the first seismic source and the second seismic source emit signals simultaneously.

15. The method of claim 13 or 14 using the system of any one of claims 1 to 12.

16. A method of prospecting for sulfide deposits on the sea floor, comprising the use of the method or system of any one of the preceding claims.
