Method of operating an aqueous household appliance (1), in particular a dishwasher or washing machine, having an automatic dosing system (15) for automatically dosing at least one detergent tablet provided by a dosing unit (18, 118, 218) into a washing liquid for washing items, having the steps of:

installing (S1) the dosing unit (18, 118, 218) in the automatic dosing system (15);

engaging (S2) a drive of a drive unit (17) with a dispensing device (20, 120, 220) of the dispensing unit (18, 118, 218); and is

Switching (S3), by the drive unit (17), the dosing device (20, 120, 220) from an off state to a release state by using a predefined switching mechanism.
