-feeding the marking profile to a printer, in particular a label printer;

-marking said top surface;

-cutting and/or perforating the marking profile to form at least one marking strip having a predefined length;

-optically detecting at least two or more position marks of the marking profile before, during or after marking, wherein in particular the relative position of the marking profile with respect to a print head of the printer is determined based on the detected position marks.

6. The method of claim 5, wherein the first and second light sources are selected from the group consisting of,

-adjusting the feeding speed of the label profile in the label printer and/or the print head movement of the label printer based on the detected position mark;
