Technical Field

The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a smoking article.

Background

Smoking articles such as tobacco provided with a tobacco rod, a cooling section, and a filter section have been conventionally manufactured using a plurality of tipping papers. For example, patent document 1 discloses a method for manufacturing a smoking article in which a plurality of components are wrapped with a plurality of tipping papers. Specifically, patent document 1 discloses the following method: the polylactic acid filter, the hollow filter and the tobacco rod are successively arranged adjacently and wrapped with the second tipping paper, and then the mouth end filter is arranged adjacently at the polylactic acid filter end of the wrapped member and wrapped with the first tipping paper. However, this method is characterized in that, since air leakage or the like occurs when a gap is formed between the components at the joint, a non-covered portion is provided at the front end portion of the polylactic acid filter without completely covering the polylactic acid filter with the second tipping paper.

Detailed Description

The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a smoking article provided with a tobacco rod, a cooling section, and a filter section. The present invention will be described in detail below. In the present invention, X to Y include X and Y as the end values thereof.

1. Smoking article

The smoking article of the present invention is provided with a tobacco rod, a cooling section, and a filter section. Fig. 1(i) shows an aspect of the smoking article of the present invention. In the figure, 100 is a smoking article, 1 is a tobacco rod, 3 is a cooling section, 5 is a filter section, and 7 is tipping paper.

(1) Tobacco rod

The tobacco rod is a substantially cylindrical member for generating flavor components contained in a tobacco material, and includes a wrapping paper wound around a tobacco filler. The tobacco filler is not limited, and for example, cut tobacco, tobacco flakes, and the like can be used. Specifically, the rolled paper may be filled with cut tobacco obtained by cutting dried tobacco leaves into pieces having a width of 0.8 to 1.2 mm. Further, the dried tobacco leaves may be pulverized and homogenized to have an average particle diameter of about 20 to 200 μm, processed into a film, and then pulverized to have a width of 0.8 to 1.2mm and filled into the wrapping paper. Instead of cutting the film, the film may be pleated, folded, or formed into a spiral shape to be filled into the roll paper. The film may be cut into a rectangular shape, and the cut film may be concentrically filled into the wrapping paper or the rectangular shape may be filled into the wrapping paper so that the longitudinal direction of the film is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the tobacco rod.

The tobacco rod 1 may also generate aerosol with heating. To promote aerosol generation, it is preferable to add an aerosol source such as a polyhydric alcohol such as glycerin, propylene glycol, and 1, 3-butanediol to the tobacco filler. The amount of the aerosol source added is preferably 5 to 50 wt%, more preferably 10 to 30 wt%, based on the dry weight of the tobacco filler. In addition, the tobacco rod may also contain a flavorant such as menthol. The length of the tobacco rod 1 is not limited, but is preferably 15 to 25 mm. The diameter is not limited, but is preferably 6.5 to 7.5 mm. However, when the rigidity of the adjacent member is higher than the rigidity of the tobacco rod, the diameter of the tobacco rod is preferably larger than the diameter of the adjacent member. This is because the deformation of the tobacco rod can be reduced. From this viewpoint, the diameter of the tobacco rod is preferably 0.5 to 2.5% larger than the diameter of the adjacent member, and more preferably 1.0 to 2.0% larger. In actual dimensions, the diameter of the tobacco rod is preferably about 0.05 to 0.15mm larger than the diameter of the adjacent member. Examples of the adjacent members include a cooling section and a filter section.

The term "rigidity" as used herein means resistance to deformation of a member as disclosed in paragraphs 0010 to 0014 of Japanese patent laid-open publication No. 2016 and 523565. The stiffness can be determined from the change in diameter before and after the application of the load F to the side of the tobacco rod. In fig. 4, when the diameter of the tobacco rod before the load F is applied is denoted by Ds and the diameter after the load is applied is denoted by Dd, the amount of depression is denoted by d-Dd, and the rigidity is defined by the following equation. The same applies to other components.

Stiffness (%). Dd/Ds X100

(2) Cooling section

The cooling section is a means for cooling the flavor components, aerosol generated in the tobacco rod 1. The cooling section 3 may also be a hollow paper tube. The paper tube is preferably made of cardboard having higher rigidity than the roll paper and the tipping paper. The paper tube may also be provided with holes (ventilation). The openings are preferably provided in plural along the circumference of the paper tube. The apertures are preferably provided by laser machining the finished smoking article from a work efficiency standpoint. In the cooling section 3, a pleated sheet of rubber may be filled in order to improve the heat exchange efficiency. The size of the cooling section 3 is not limited, but the length is preferably 15 to 25mm and the diameter is preferably 5.5 to 7.5 mm. However, when the rigidity of the member adjacent to the cooling section 3 is lower than the rigidity of the cooling section 3, the diameter of the cooling section 3 is preferably 0.5 to 2.5% smaller, and preferably 1.0 to 2.0% smaller, than the diameter of the adjacent member. Generally, in the case where the cooling section 3 includes a paper tube made of cardboard, the rigidity of the section is higher than that of the tobacco rod.

(3) Filter segment

The filter segment is a member provided with a filter. As the filter, a known filter member such as an acetate filter or a filter paper can be used. The filter paper is a paper-filled filter prepared by folding paper with a crimping roll or the like and winding up the paper with a filter rod-winding paper. Acetate filters are filters filled with cellulose acetate fibers. As shown in fig. 1(ii), the filter segment 5 preferably has a filter 51 and a central aperture 53. As the center hole, for example, a hole having a space provided in the center portion of the acetate filter can be used. The length of the filter segment 5 is not limited, but is preferably 10 to 20 mm. When both the center hole and the acetate filter are disposed as the filter segments, the order thereof is not limited. Further, the respective components may be wrapped with filter plug wrap (filter inner wrapping material) and connected with filter plug wrap (filter outer wrapping material). The diameter of the filter section is not limited, but preferably has substantially the same diameter as the other sections of the tobacco rod. This is because breakage and wrinkles of the tipping paper can be suppressed.

(4) Tipping paper

Tipping paper refers to paper used to join two or more of a tobacco rod, a cooling section, and a filter section. On the other hand, the wrapping paper is paper for wrapping each member constituting the tobacco rod, the cooling section, or the filter section. For example, as described above, when the filter segment includes the center hole and the acetate filter, the paper wrapping the center hole and the paper wrapping the acetate filter are each roll paper.

The base paper used for the tipping paper and the wrapping paper is not limited, and a base paper using cellulose fibers can be cited. As such cellulose fibers, either plant-derived cellulose fibers or chemically synthesized cellulose fibers may be used, or a mixture thereof may be used. The plant-derived fibers may be pulp such as flax fibers, wood fibers, seed fibers, or unbleached colored unbleached pulp, but in order to provide a white clean appearance, it is preferable to use pulp that has been bleached with a bleaching agent such as an oxidizing agent or a reducing agent and then dried.

In the case of a roll paper for a general cigarette, an alkali metal citrate or the like is used as a general combustion regulator (combustion improver or the like) that can affect the natural combustion rate of the roll paper. In the present invention, it is preferable to use a heated smoking article rather than a combustion type, and in this case, since it is not necessary to burn the roll paper, the roll paper may not contain a combustion modifier.

The lower limit of the grammage of the roll paper is preferably 30g/m2Above, more preferably 35g/m2Above, more preferably 40g/m2The above. The upper limit is preferably 65g/m2Hereinafter, more preferably 50g/m2The following. Further, the lower limit of the grammage of the tipping paper is preferably 20g/m2Above, more preferably 25g/m2Above, more preferably 30g/m2The above. The upper limit is preferably 50g/m2Hereinafter, more preferably 45g/m2Hereinafter, it is more preferably 40g/m2The following. The grammage can be measured according to the method defined in JIS P8124.

2. Manufacturing method

The manufacturing method of the present invention can be carried out using any apparatus, but is preferably carried out using an apparatus which includes a plurality of rollers as shown in fig. 5 and supplies the members from above, for example. One drum preferably has one function, rather than multiple functions. This is because the occurrence of defects can be reduced in high-speed manufacturing. Hereinafter, each step will be described by taking a case where the apparatus is used as an example. The number of rollers having the supply, reception, transfer, or separation function may be one or more in each unit.

(1) Process A

In this step, a double-length tobacco section 10w is prepared, the double-length tobacco section 10w including a double-length tobacco rod 1 w' having a length twice that of the tobacco rod 1 and being separable at a central portion in a longitudinal direction thereof, and two cooling sections 3 abutting on both ends thereof. This step can also be carried out as follows: a double-length tobacco section comprising a double-length tobacco rod 1w having a length twice that of the tobacco rod and two cooling sections 3 abutting on both ends thereof is prepared, the double-length tobacco section being cut at a central portion in a length direction thereof. This step can be performed, for example, in the first to third units 81 to 83 in fig. 5. Reference numeral 81f denotes a supply device of the cooling section 3, 81p denotes a take-out drum, and 81s denotes a separation drum. The pair of cooling zones 3 supplied from the supply device 81f are transferred to a holding portion provided on the circumferential surface of the take-out drum 81 p. Subsequently, the pair of tobacco rods 1 are delivered to the separation drum 81s, transferred, and separated in the holding portion.

In the second unit 82, 82f is a feeding device of the double length tobacco rod 1w, 82t is a shifting drum, 82p is a take-out drum, and 82a is a drawing drum. The pair of cooling sections 3 disposed separately are delivered to the transfer drum 82t as they are. On the other hand, the double-length tobacco rod 1w supplied from the supply device 82f is delivered to a holding portion provided on the circumferential surface of the take-out drum 82p, and then delivered to the take-up drum 82 a. At this time, in the separated portion of the pair of cooling sections 3 arranged separately, both ends of the double length tobacco rod 1w are arranged to abut against the end portions of the cooling sections 3.

In the third unit 83, 83c is a cutter drum, 83 c' is a cutter, and 83s is a separation drum. Sections provided with a pair of cooling sections 3 at both ends of the double length tobacco rod 1w are passed to the cutter drum 83c, and cut by the cutter 83 c' at the center in the longitudinal direction of the double length tobacco rod 1 w.

In this process, the double length tobacco rod 1w or the separable double length tobacco rod 1 w' may also be wrapped with a wrapping material. The wrapping material is a sheet-like member, and examples thereof include paper, polymer sheets and the like. Examples of the paper include known papers such as tipping papers, and examples of the polymer sheet include biodegradable polymer sheets such as polylactic acid sheets. For example, if the smoking article is wrapped with a decorated wrapping material, a smoking article decorated at the upstream portion can be provided (see fig. 3 (2)). Alternatively, flavor may be added to the double length tobacco rod 1w or the separable double length tobacco rod 1 w'. For example, if the double-length tobacco rod 1w or the like is wrapped with a wrapping material containing a flavorant, a smoking article containing a flavorant in an upstream portion can be provided (see fig. 3 (1)). The flavor is not limited, and known flavors such as menthol can be used. The amount to be added is not limited, and may be a known amount. In fig. 3, F is a portion to which a perfume is added, and F' is a paper containing a perfume. In this way, the upstream portion can be provided with a function when forming a smoking article by the present step.

(2) Step B

In this step, the double length tobacco section 1w is separated at the center to form a pair of separated tobacco sections 10, and these are reversed so that the tobacco rod 1 is partially positioned outside, the longitudinal axes of both are the same, and the cooling sections 3 are disposed so as to face each other. This step can be performed in the fourth unit 84 of fig. 5. 84i and 84 i' are counter-rotating rollers. The mechanism of the reverse rotation will be described with reference to fig. 6. The guide G on the reversing drum 84i is a holding portion that holds the tobacco section 10, and is provided so as to be rotatable on the drum about one angle. With respect to the tobacco section 10 held in the guide G shown in broken lines, the reversing drum 84i rotates and the guide G turns, moving to the position shown in solid lines. The tobacco section 10 is then handed over to a guide G 'indicated by a dashed line of the reversing drum 84 i'. The guide G 'slides over the reversing drum 84 i' to a position indicated by a solid line where the separation distance of the pair of tobacco sections 10 becomes a desired value. In this manner, the pair of tobacco sections 10 is inverted.

(3) Step C

In this step, a double length filter segment 5w having a length twice that of the filter segment 5 is prepared, and both ends thereof are arranged in the separation portion so as to be in contact with the end portion of the tobacco segment 10 on the cooling segment 3 side, thereby preparing a composite segment. This step can be performed in the fifth unit 85 of fig. 5. In the figure, 85f is a supply device of double length filter segments 5w, 85p is a take-off roller, and 85a is a pulling roller. The segments prepared in the previous process are handed over to the pulling roll 85 a. On the other hand, the double-length filter segment 5w supplied from the supply device 85f is delivered to a holding portion provided on the circumferential surface of the take-out roller 85p, and then delivered to the pulling roller 85 a. At this time, the separated portions of the pair of tobacco sections 10 disposed separately are disposed such that both ends of the double length filter section 5w abut against the end portions of the tobacco sections 10, forming the composite section 90.

(4) Step D

In this step, the composite segment is wrapped with a piece of tipping paper 7 and integrated to obtain a double-length smoking article 100 w. As the tipping paper, paper commonly used in this field can be used. The tipping paper may be coated with a known adhesive whereby the composite segments in the separable state are integrated into an inseparable state. At this point, the tipping paper 7 need not cover the entire extent of the tobacco rod 1. When the length of the tobacco rod 1 is X, the cover region of the tipping paper 7 is preferably a region starting from the joint surface between the tobacco rod 1 and the cooling zone 3 and ending at a position of 0.2X to 0.4X in the longitudinal direction of the tobacco rod 1. If the coverage area of the tipping paper 7 is within this range, there is an advantage that the thermal conductivity can be improved when the tobacco rod 1 is heated from the outside.

In the conventional method, a plurality of pieces of tipping paper are required because the segment is wrapped with the tipping paper every time a plurality of components are combined to prepare the segment. However, in the present invention, since the composite section of one piece of tipping paper is wrapped, it is possible to avoid a step in the product resulting from the use of a plurality of pieces of tipping paper, and it is possible to reduce the rate of defective products in manufacturing.

This step can be performed in the sixth unit 86 of fig. 5. In the figure, 86f denotes a supply device for the tipping paper 7, 86t denotes a feed roller, 86r denotes a rotary roller, and 86h denotes a rolling hand. The rotary drum is a drum having a holding portion for holding a member on a circumferential surface thereof and a holding portion for allowing the member such as a segment to rotate on its longitudinal center axis. The rotating handle means a mechanism disposed opposite to the circumferential surface of the rotating drum for forming a gap having a certain distance with the surface. The composite section 90 is handed over to the shifting drum 86t and then to the rotating drum 86 r. On the other hand, a part of the tipping paper 7 supplied from the supply device 86f is bonded to the circumferential surface of the segment on the rotating drum 86r to form a precursor 92 (see fig. 7). The precursor 92 is provided with tipping paper 7 adhered to the composite section 90 as a flag. That is, a portion of the tipping paper 7 is adhered to the circumferential face of the composite segment 90, but the other portion is free. The front body 92 is transferred to a gap formed between the rotary drum 86r and the rotary handle 85h by a holding portion fixed to the circumferential surface of the rotary drum 86r by suction or the like. When passing through the gap, the entire circumferential surface of the front body 92 is wrapped with the tipping paper 7 to form a double-length smoking article 100w (see fig. 7).

As previously mentioned, in the present invention it is preferred that the tobacco rod 1 has a larger diameter than the cooling section 3 adjacent thereto. In this case, if the surfaces of the rotary drum 86r and the rotary handle 86h are flat, the surfaces will contact the tobacco rod 1 excessively (fig. 8(1)), and thus a so-called tip drop (japanese: first drop ち) occurs in which the filler drops by applying an impact to the tobacco rod 1. Further, twisting due to the difference in circumference occurs, and a defect such as a wrinkle occurs in the product. Therefore, in the present invention, it is preferable that, as shown in fig. 8(2) and (3), a concave portion is provided on the surface of the rotary drum 86r or the rotary handle 86h facing the tobacco rod 1, and a gap is formed between the tobacco rod 1 and the concave portion. Although fig. 8(2) and (3) show a mode in which a concave portion is provided in the rotary handle 86h, the concave portion may be provided in the rotary drum 86r, or both. The depth of the recess (T in FIGS. 8, (2) and (3)) can be adjusted as appropriate, but is preferably 0.05 to 0.15 mm. The recess need not be provided on the entire surface of the surface facing the tobacco rod 1. As shown in fig. 8, the concave portion may be provided in a part of the surface facing the tobacco rod 1. However, in order to reliably bond the tobacco rod to the tipping paper for other members, it is preferable that no recess be present in the vicinity of the boundary between the two members.

(4) Step E

In this step, the double-length smoking article 100w is cut at the central portion in the longitudinal direction thereof. Through this process, a pair of smoking articles 100 can be manufactured. The present step may further include a step of inverting one of the smoking articles 100 to align the directions of the two smoking articles 100.

This step can be performed in the seventh unit 87 in fig. 5. In the figure 87c is the cutter drum, 87 c' is the cutter and 87a is the traction drum. The double-length smoking article 100w is passed to the cutter drum 87c and cut at the center in the longitudinal direction thereof, thereby forming the smoking article 100. The smoking article 100 is handed over to the traction drum 87a, separated and exits as a product.

In the present invention, even when another member having a smaller diameter than the tobacco rod is disposed adjacent to the tobacco rod, problems such as rotation jamming can be avoided, and thus a satisfactory rotation can be performed. Further, since one piece of tipping paper is used, it is also advantageous in terms of cost. In addition, in the conventional method using a plurality of tipping papers, since the smoking article has a step, it is necessary to cope with such a step in the drum.

[ example 1]

The following components were prepared.

Double length tobacco rod (manufactured by Nippon tobacco industries Co., Ltd.) having a diameter of 7.0mm and a length of 40.0mm

The cooling section was a paper tube having a diameter of 6.9mm and a length of 20.0mm

Double length filter section consisting of 6.9mm diameter central hole (8.0 mm)/double length acetate filter (14.0 mm)/central hole (8.0mm)

24.0mm 80.0mm tipping paper

A double length tobacco rod separable at the center in the longitudinal direction is placed, and paper tubes are disposed at both ends of the rod, respectively, to obtain separable double length tobacco sections (step a). The separable double-length tobacco segments are separated at the central portion to prepare a pair of separated tobacco segments, and these are reversed and arranged separately (step B). In this case, the tobacco rod portion is located on the outer side and the longitudinal axes of the two portions are the same. The double-length filter segment is disposed in the separation portion so that both ends of the double-length filter segment are in contact with the end of the tobacco segment on the cooling segment side, thereby obtaining a composite segment (step C). The composite segment is wrapped and integrated with a piece of tipping paper to obtain a double-length smoking article having a length twice that of the smoking article (step D). The double-length smoking article is cut at the central portion in the longitudinal direction thereof to obtain two smoking articles (step E).
