1. A method for milking a milking animal in a milking operation using an automatic milking arrangement comprising a milking cup, an adjustable stimulation arrangement, a milk flow meter, and a control unit,

wherein the milking device is configured for a stimulation operation comprising:

-stimulating the milking animal with the stimulation device for a stimulation time determined before the milking operation to induce a milk-spill reflex, and

-a waiting time between ending the stimulation operation and starting milking of the teats of the milking animal with one of the teat cups, the waiting time being determined before the milking operation,

wherein the stimulation time and/or the waiting time are adjustable by the control unit and the waiting time can be zero,

wherein the method comprises the following steps:

a) a milking step comprising performing one or more milking operations on the milking animal using the settings of the teat cups and the stimulation device set prior to the milking step,

b) a measuring step comprising measuring a milk flow profile of at least one rear or front teat during each of the one or more milking operations using the milk flow meter,

c) an evaluation step comprising determining, using the control unit, whether each of the measured milk flow curves is bimodal,

d) an adjustment step comprising the control unit automatically adjusting the stimulation operation for the milking animals by extending the stimulation time by a stimulation extension value and/or by extending the waiting time by a waiting extension value if at least one of the evaluated milk flow curves is bimodal,

and further comprising repeating steps a) to d) at least once, including the adapted stimulation operation and using a predetermined adaptation period, the predetermined adaptation period comprising one of a predetermined number of milking operations of a predetermined duration.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein step d) comprises: if none of the evaluated milk flow curves is bimodal, the control unit automatically adjusts the stimulation operation for the dairy animal by shortening the stimulation time by a stimulation reduction value and/or by shortening the waiting time by a waiting reduction value.

Method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein in step c) the control unit determines the milk flow curve as bimodal if the milk flow reaches a local peak of at least a predetermined value, such as 200g/min, within a predetermined period of time from the start of milk flow, then falls to a local minimum, the decrease exceeds at least a predetermined threshold, such as 100g/min or 20%, and then increases again above the local peak after a predetermined transition period of at least, such as 6 seconds.

4. Method according to claim 3, wherein the control unit assigns a bimodality value to the milk flow curve based on the local peak and/or the reduction, e.g. a relative reduction after the local peak.

5. Method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein in step c) the control unit determines that the milk flow curve is bimodal if, starting from milk flow, the milk flow takes longer than a predetermined rise time, e.g. 30 seconds, to reach a peak flow of a main milking session of the milk flow, and/or if, before the control unit stops the milking operation, the milk flow of the peak flow from the main milking session takes longer than a predetermined fall time, e.g. 30 seconds.

6. Method according to claim 5, wherein the control unit assigns bimodal values to the milk flow curve based on the rise time and/or the fall time.

7. Method according to claim 4 or 6, wherein the control unit in step d) automatically adjusts the stimulation step to an extent depending on the value determined for the bimodality, in particular wherein the stimulation extension value and/or the waiting extension value depend on the value determined for the bimodality.

8. The method according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the control unit selects an adaptation period for milking with adjusted settings based on the stimulation extension value and/or the waiting extension value, wherein the adaptation period is shorter, in particular has a relatively small value.

9. A milking system for milking a milking animal, the milking system comprising a teat cup for milking, an adjustable stimulation arrangement, a milk flow meter for measuring a flow of the expressed milk, and a control unit for controlling at least the stimulation arrangement,

wherein the milking device is configured for a stimulation operation comprising:

-stimulating the milking animals with the stimulation device for a stimulation time adjustable by the control unit and determined before the milking operation, to induce a milk overflow reflex, and

-a waiting time between ending the stimulation operation and starting milking of the teats of the milking animal with one of the teat cups, the waiting time being determined before the milking operation, the waiting time being able to be zero,

wherein the milking system, in particular the control unit, is configured to automatically perform the method of any of claims 1-8.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the stimulation device comprises one or more teat cleaning brushes or separate cleaning cups, wherein the waiting time is in particular greater than zero.

11. The method according to claim 9, wherein the stimulation device is incorporated in the teat cup, in particular wherein the waiting time is zero.

12. A milking parlor for a plurality of milking animals and provided with a milking system as claimed in any of claims 9-11, wherein the milking animals are milked in groups in the milking system at regular milking intervals according to a fixed rhythm, and wherein the adaptation period is 1 or 2 days.

13. Milking parlor for a plurality of milking animals and provided with a milking system according to any of claims 9-11, wherein the milking system is freely accessible to the milking animals, and wherein the adaptation period is at least 4 days, in particular one week.
