Technical Field

The present invention relates to a refillable pump dispenser, in particular for flowable cosmetic products.

Background

Refillable dispensers provide a solution to our environmental concerns about waste disposal. Containers that would normally be discarded or partially recycled can be reused many times by the concept of refilling. This is the most convenient way for consumers to reduce landfill waste. In addition, the recycling costs of collecting, storing and disposing of plastic containers can be reduced.

Pump dispensers are convenient packages for delivering viscous flowable materials. In recent years, consumer products such as toothpaste have been sold to some extent in pump dispensers. However, these types of containers are very expensive. Typical techniques are described in US 3,268,123(Spatz) and US 4,511,068 (bosssina), both relying on a one-way movable, spring-like diaphragm.

Environmental regulations on reducing packaging sources are being considered. Not only is the number of packages reduced, but the type of package must also be simplified for recycling.

There is still a need for an improved environmental problem with known pump dispensers. To date, simple pump dispensers have not been refillable. After the material to be dispensed has been used up, not only the upper material receiving body but also the lower piston body must be discarded.

One popular method of refilling concept is assembly, wherein the product to be dispensed is contained in a flexible bag, as described in US 5,139,168 (Gueret).

Therefore, there is a need for a simple pump dispenser with more parts that can be reused, thereby reducing the amount of discarded packages.

Disclosure of Invention

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a simple, at least partially reusable, positive displacement pump.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a simple pump dispenser which requires only one part to be replaced, while the remaining parts of the pump dispenser are reusable, thereby reducing the amount of discarded packages.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a refillable pump dispenser that can accommodate a refill container that can be quickly and easily loaded into the dispenser without mixing, pouring, spilling, or mess.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a refill container suitable for a refillable pump dispenser having a mechanism that allows a consumer to easily attach/detach the refill container.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, a refillable pump dispenser for flowable cosmetics includes an outer container having an inlet formed at an upper portion thereof, an inner container inserted into the outer container for containing cosmetics, a push plate inserted into an inner lower side of the inner container for pushing the cosmetics upward, and a dispenser head assembly coupled to upper sides of both the outer container and the inner container.

The outer container and the inner container are each removably connected to the dispenser head assembly such that when the cosmetic product within the inner container is completely depleted, the outer container and the dispenser head assembly may be reused and the inner container replaced or refilled.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, the dispenser head assembly includes a cap, a pump assembly, a pressing member, and an annular sleeve.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the annular sleeve and the pressing member are inserted into the cap. Further, the cap includes a cylindrical body having open top and bottom ends, and the cylindrical body is formed with an outlet exposure hole on one side thereof.

According to an embodiment of the present invention, the pressing member is coupled with an upper portion of the pump assembly, and an outlet through which the pumped cosmetic is discharged is formed on one side of the pressing member. The pressing member is oriented such that an outlet thereof protrudes from an outlet exposure hole of the cover.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the lid is removably coupled to the upper portion of the outer container. More specifically, the outer container is formed in a cylindrical shape, and the inlet is formed at an upper portion thereof. At least one groove is formed on the outer circumference of the inlet port to be coupled with at least one protrusion formed on the inner surface of the lower end portion of the cylindrical body of the cap. In this embodiment, the at least one recess of the outer container is L-or J-shaped, and the at least one projection of the lid is engaged therein, thereby connecting the lid to the lower container by means of a J-lock that is easy to connect and disconnect. In other embodiments, any other engagement means capable of removably coupling the lid with the outer container may be used, for example snap fittings (snap fittings), screw engagement means, magnetic engagement means, or the like.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the annular sleeve of the dispenser head assembly is fixedly coupled to the cover and comprises on an outer surface at least one coupling protrusion which couples with a corresponding coupling groove formed on an inner surface of the cover. In other alternative embodiments, the annular sleeve may include at least one coupling groove on an outer surface thereof that couples with a corresponding coupling protrusion formed on an inner surface of the cover.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the annular sleeve of the dispenser head assembly is removably coupled to the inner container. The annular sleeve of the dispenser head assembly and the inner container may engage one another, for example by means of mutually engageable screw threads, which is a removable engagement so that the inner container may be replaced when the cosmetic product is used up. Thus, the inner container is replaceable. In this embodiment, the annular sleeve includes a central bore, and the inner surface of the central bore includes threads that engage corresponding threads formed on the outer surface of the neck of the inner container. In other embodiments, any other engagement means capable of removably coupling the annular sleeve with the inner container may be used, such as snap fittings, J-locks, magnetic engagement means, and the like.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the annular sleeve is further designed to securely fasten or hold the pump assembly on the neck of the inner container. The pump assembly is mounted through the central bore of the annular sleeve.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the pump assembly comprises a cup-shaped body, a hollow elongated rod, a spring, an annular, liquid-tight piston, a retaining element and a check valve. The check valve is a one-way valve.

The pump assembly is designed to be secured to the mouth of an inner container containing the cosmetic product. The pump assembly comprises a cup-shaped body defining a chamber for the suction/compression of the cosmetic product to be dispensed, and in which the hollow stem extends at least partially.

The chamber is delimited by the wall of the cup-shaped body, by a one-way valve for closing an aperture for the cosmetic product to be dispensed from the inner container into the chamber, by the annular piston and by the wide end of the stem.

The cup-shaped body includes an outer flange received in an inner recess in the central bore of the annular sleeve for fixedly receiving the pump assembly within the central bore of the annular sleeve.

The annular piston is slidable in a fluid-tight manner on the inner surface of the chamber and on the lower end of the hollow rod.

The spring has a top end supported on a projecting collar of the rod, which collar is made in one piece with the rod on the upper end of the rod.

The holding member holds the bottom end of the spring. The retaining element has a cylindrical body with an exterior secured to the cup-shaped body at an inner step of the cup-shaped body.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the annular piston is movable between a first position, in which the pressing member is in a non-pressing state, and at least one second position; in the second position, the pressing member is in a pressed state.

In the first position (the pressing member is not depressed), the annular piston closes, under the thrust of the spring, in fluidtight manner at least one hole which crosses the thickness of the rod near the first end thereof and opens into the cavity of the rod. More specifically, the piston is supported in a fluid-tight manner on the wide end of the rod, closing the cavity of the rod, blocking the connection between the chamber and the cavity of the rod.

In the second position (with the pressing member depressed), the spring is compressed and the piston is lifted away from the at least one aperture and the wide end of the rod so that cosmetic in the chamber is dispensed through the aperture and the chamber on the rod.

Preferably, the rod comprises at least one first hollow tubular element and at least one second hollow tubular element partially inserted into each other and having features such as corresponding grooves and tabs for fastening them together. The first tubular member extends at least partially over the exterior of the cup-shaped body, with a collar for retaining a first end of the spring. The second tubular element provides an inlet aperture of the cavity of the stem and further comprises a wide end for supporting the piston.

In addition, the pump assembly further includes a ring at least partially located within the top portion of the cup-shaped body. The ring has at least one protrusion on its outer surface that snap-fits into a corresponding inner groove formed on the top of the cup-shaped body. The ring has an inwardly projecting edge of a collar for retaining the rod, designed to prevent the rod from exiting the cup-shaped body under the thrust of the spring.

The first hollow tubular element of the stem has, at its top mouth, an annular groove for snap coupling (snap coupling) the pressing member.

The spring, piston and retaining element have through holes so that they can be fitted on the rod.

Furthermore, the inner container may not be made in a single piece and may comprise a tubular body closed at its lower end by a separate bottom plate.

When the refillable pump dispenser is assembled, inserting the push plate into the inner container, the cosmetics being contained in the inner container; then, coupling the inner container with the annular sleeve of the dispenser head assembly by means of corresponding screw means; thereafter, the outer container is coupled with the lower end of the lid of the dispenser head assembly using a J-lock so that the inner container is received in the outer container.

In using the cosmetic container assembled in the above-described manner, the outer container is held by one hand, and the pressing member is pressed to move downward to actuate the pump assembly, thereby discharging the cosmetic to the outlet for use.

The advantage of the present invention is that the components of the refillable pump dispenser can be made of plastic material by injection moulding and, as a matter of principle, the safety measures or stroke settings provided do not require any additional components but can be configured from existing basic components. This may result in a configuration that is advantageous for mass production of refillable pump dispensers. At the same time, an easy assembly of the components forming the refillable pump dispenser can be achieved.

The above and other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent from the following description of the preferred embodiments taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
