Examples

1. Methods used in the prior art

For untreated controls, wheat seeds (winter wheat, TRZAW) were placed in sandy loam in pots 7cm in diameter, covered with soil and grown in a greenhouse under good growth conditions.

Post-emergence applications are performed when plants reach the growth stage BBCH11(BBCH is the international coding system for crop and weed growth stages).

The herbicide (compound I) was formulated as a Suspension Concentrate (SC).

The safener (mefenpyr-diethyl) is prepared into Wettable Powder (WP).

The compounds were sprayed in the form of an aqueous suspension onto the green parts of the plants at an equivalent water application rate of 300 l/ha.

The combination of herbicide and safener is applied as a tank mix.

After application, the test plants were kept in the greenhouse under good growth conditions. The% crop damage observed on the treated plants was visually assessed 14 days after application compared to untreated controls.

The values in the table below are the average of at least 3 replicates.

2. Method A

For untreated controls, wheat seeds (winter wheat, TRZAW) were placed in sandy loam in pots 7cm in diameter, covered with soil and grown in a greenhouse under good growth conditions.

For safener seed treatment, enough seeds were weighed into screw-cap glass bottles with approximately twice the volume of the seeds.

The safener (mefenpyr-diethyl, formulated as a Suspension Concentrate (SC)) was weighed out in order to obtain the desired application rate (ga.i./kg seeds), dissolved in water (1 ml of water per 10g seeds) and added to the seeds to obtain a slurry.

The bottles were capped and then placed in an overhead shaker (overhead shaker) set at medium speed for up to 1 hour to allow the seeds to be evenly covered with slurry. The bottle cap is opened and the seeds are sown as described above.

For the seed treatment method, an empty formulation (SC formulation without safener mefenpyr) was used as seed treatment as described above.

The post-emergence application of the herbicide was carried out when the plants reached the growth stage BBCH 11.
