Technical Field

The invention relates to a timepiece movement for a timepiece, the movement comprising a first side intended to be visible through a first mirror of the timepiece and a second side intended to be visible through a second mirror of the timepiece, the timepiece movement comprising: at least one drive movement device intended to drive the display means to display the current time; and a display movement for displaying the supplementary quantities intended to be displayed on the first and second sides of the timepiece movement.

As will appear from the following description, "display" of the replenishment quantity on the first and second sides of the timepiece movement should be understood to mean that the display member displaying the replenishment quantity should be easily recognizable by an observer viewing the timepiece movement on one side or the other of the movement, without the information relating to the replenishment quantity necessarily being located in the actual plane of one face or the other of the movement. The indication produced by the display member, which is at least partially visible but lies in a plane other than the one corresponding to one side of the timepiece movement, and is mostly located between the two sides of the movement, will therefore be recognizable. It should also be noted that the information can be identified by observing the display member by means of an optical device provided on the timepiece movement (preferably of the magnifying type), so that the information on the supplementary quantity is identifiable in the form of a virtual image possibly located outside the volume of the timepiece movement.

The invention also relates to a timepiece having such a timepiece movement.

Background

A timepiece movement of this type has been disclosed, for example, in patent CH 709155B 1, which describes a timepiece movement that enables, among other things, the current second to be displayed in a manner visible on both faces of the respective timepiece. The structure of this timepiece movement has the advantage of simplicity and of increased flexibility when placing two mobile devices displaying seconds opposite to each other (i.e. these mobile devices do not have to be arranged one above the other), compared to the timepiece movements known hitherto with a double-sided display, some of which are referred to in this patent as prior art.

However, this structure does have a considerable bulk, which is problematic for producing certain timepiece movements that are very volumetrically contracted. For example, the space occupation in a timepiece movement comprising a plurality of complex functions may soon become critical, and watchmakers may prefer to implement complementary complex functions within a certain available volume, rather than implementing mechanisms that enable the display of a predefined display quantity already present on one side of the timepiece movement to be transferred to one that is also present on the other side.

Disclosure of Invention

It is therefore a main object of the present invention to propose an alternative to this known structure by proposing an alternative structure for such a timepiece movement that comprises a display of a predefined quantity on both sides thereof by means of a display mechanism having a maximum limited volume.

To this end, the invention relates more particularly to a timepiece movement of the above-mentioned type, characterized in that said display movement drives a display member for displaying said supplementary amount, said display member having a substantially flat form with a first face and a second face, and said first face bearing thereon at least one first indication relating to said supplementary amount and said second face bearing thereon at least one additional indication relating to said supplementary amount, said display member displaying said supplementary amount being arranged so that said supplementary amount is displayed simultaneously on said first and second sides of said timepiece movement.

By virtue of these features, in particular, one and the same display member is implemented to display one and the same quantity on either side of the timepiece movement, the respective double-sided display mechanism having an overall volume that is significantly smaller than that of the mechanisms of the prior art described above.

Moreover, this structure offers other important advantages compared to the movement of the prior art, such as a reduction in the number of parts and therefore a simplification of the assembly of the timepiece movement.

In general, it may be provided that the supplementary amount is taken from the group comprising: second; the method comprises the following steps of (1) taking minutes; hours; a date; the day of the week; month; year; the year in the leap year cycle; a lunar phase; the difference between civil time and solar time (or the time difference); power reserve, etc.

Preferably, the first indication and the additional indication comprise the same series of values or patterns related to the amount of supplementation.

As an example, when the replenishment amount is a date, the first indication and the additional indication each include a series of numbers from 1 to 31.

According to a variant embodiment, it is possible to provide:

a display member having the general form of a disc or ring, an

Given values or given patterns obtained from the additional indications projected into the intermediate plane of the display member are arranged in different positions with respect to the projection of the same values or the same patterns obtained from the first indications.

Thus, for example, provision can be made for: the replenishment amount is displayed on a radius corresponding to the 12 o 'clock position on a first side of the movement and on a radius corresponding to the 7 o' clock position on a second side of the movement. The watchmaker therefore has great flexibility in implementing the double-sided display according to the invention and can modify its structure according to his or her specific needs (especially taking into account the bulk of other possible complex objects).

According to a variant embodiment, the display movement means can be arranged to be of the jerky and/or retrograde type.

The invention also concerns a timepiece, preferably of the pocket watch or watch type, comprising a case having a first face and a second face, each face having at least one mirror, and housing a timepiece movement according to the above characteristics.

According to a preferred embodiment, provision may be made for:

a display member that displays the replenishment amount is located at a position closer to the second face than the first face, and

the timepiece includes an enlarging member located between the display member and the first face to improve recognizability of the display member from the first face.

In this case, provision may also be made for the magnifying member to define a reading window on that side of the first face.

Drawings

Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become more apparent from reading the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment thereof, given by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:

fig. 1 shows a plan view of a first face of a timepiece according to a preferred embodiment of the invention;

fig. 2 shows a plan view of the second face of the timepiece of fig. 1;

FIG. 3 shows a detail of the timepiece of FIG. 1, from the same viewing angle as in FIG. 1, and

fig. 4 shows a detail of the structure of fig. 3, viewed from the same perspective as fig. 2.

Detailed Description

Fig. 1 and 2 show a timepiece 1 according to a preferred embodiment of the invention, shown in plan view from a first face and a second face, respectively.

Timepiece 1 is shown in a non-limiting illustration and will not be described in full detail since many of its features are not important to the implementation of the invention.

Timepiece 1 comprises a case 2, case 2 housing a timepiece movement 4 according to the invention, movement 4 being visible on the dial side in fig. 1 and on the bridge side in fig. 2 according to an operating convention for identifying the two sides of the timepiece.

The watch case 2 includes: a corner 6 for fixing a wrist band not shown; a crown 8 that is chordal at the 3 o' clock position and sets time; and a correction button 10 located at the 12 o' clock position, the function of the correction button 10 will not be described herein.

The structural details of timepiece movement 4 are not explained further.

Timepiece movement 4 comprises a source of mechanical energy (not visible) arranged to maintain oscillations of a mechanical oscillator defining a time base for the operation of timepiece movement 4, here in the form of a flying tourbillon 12 set in the 6 o' clock position, in an illustrative but non-limiting manner.

The timepiece movement 4 is arranged so that it can ensure that the different display members (in particular on the dial side) are driven by suitable drive movement means:

a display needle 14 at the 3 o' clock position, which displays the power reserve of the mechanical energy source;

a dome ring 16 at 12 o' clock for indicating the current position in 24 hours relative to a fixed guide mark 18, and having a spherical cap 20, the spherical cap 20 carrying the appearance of the earth as seen from the north pole;

a display mechanism 22 arranged around the ring 16, which represents the movement of the moon around the earth and its illumination by means of the sun;

a retrograde display needle 24 at the 9 o' clock position, which displays the current minute; and

a display mechanism 26 between the 7 o 'clock position and the 8 o' clock position that displays the date.

Fig. 2 also shows that timepiece movement 4 is further arranged so as to ensure the following on the bridge side:

the date, which is displayed by reading the value carried by the date disc 28 and located at the 12 o' clock position (i.e. 31 herein);

a time, which is located in the window 30 and can be the current time, or even a time in another time zone;

the year in the four-year cycle of the leap year, which is located in the adjacent window 32;

day of the week, which is located in the supplemental window 34; and

the month, which is located in another supplementary window 36.

Comparing the views of fig. 1 and 2, it can be seen that the date disc 28 is also a display member which enables the date to be displayed on the dial side of the timepiece movement 4.

Fig. 3 and 4 show the date disc 28 and the display mechanism 26 from the same respective viewing angles as fig. 1 and 2, the orientation of the date disc 28 being unchanged in both figures.

For greater clarity, two different colors are purposely used here, by way of illustration and not limitation, for the two faces 40 and 42 of the date disc 28.

A comparative check of the two faces 40 and 42 reveals that they both comprise the same indication relating to the date, i.e. a series of numbers and numbers running from 1 to 31.

It can also be seen here that this series of values of the date extends in a non-limiting manner over the two faces 40 and 42 by the same angular spread of less than 360 degrees. Here, date disc 28 takes the form of a transparent disc, for example made of sapphire, on each of whose faces a strip bearing a date value is printed, painted or deposited by screen printing or any other suitable equivalent technique. The transparent disc engages, by means of its centre, on a hub 44 (visible in fig. 2), so that its angular orientation can be controlled by a suitable mechanism of the timepiece movement 4, in particular a non-visible drive movement. The drive movement means driving the date disc 28 are here of the retrograde type, whereby the indications carried by its two faces 40 and 42 can continue over a range of less than 360 degrees. Without departing from the scope of the invention, the person skilled in the art has no particular difficulty in implementing any suitable mechanism to ensure that the date disc 28 is driven according to his or her specific needs, even if a non-retrograde drive is implemented.

It can also be seen that when each date value obtained from the series of values of one of the faces 40 or 42 is projected into the median plane of the date disc 28, each date value is arranged in a different position with respect to the projection of the same date value obtained from the series of values of the other face 40 or 42.

By virtue of this feature, the watchmaker has great flexibility in arranging the date display on either side of the timepiece movement 4, since two respective series of numbers can be arranged according to a relative position that has no effect on the operation of the respective display mechanisms. As appears from the above, in this context the date value is displayed on the dial side on a radius of the timepiece movement 4 lying between the 7 o ' clock position and the 8 o ' clock position, and on the bridge side on a radius passing through the 12 o ' clock position.

In contrast, it should also be noted that in the dial side view of fig. 1 or 3, the date disc 28 is controlled to jump in a counterclockwise direction to switch from a given date value to the next value, which means that in the dial side view of fig. 2 and 4, this same date disc 28 exhibits a clockwise jump at the same time. Thus, the series of date values to be displayed continues on face 40 in a clockwise direction on the dial side and on face 42 in a counterclockwise direction on the bridge side to obtain the desired display on both faces of timepiece 1.

Moreover, returning to fig. 1 and 2, in the case where date disc 28 is located on the bridge side of timepiece movement 4, it may be preferable or advantageous to seek to improve the legibility of the display carried on face 40 located on the dial side, i.e. the face furthest from the opposite mirror of timepiece 1.

To this end, display mechanism 26 comprises, in association with its support fixed to the frame of timepiece movement 4, an enlargement member, here at least one conventional lens 46, which defines a reading window for the date on the dial side.

By virtue of the features just proposed, it can be understood that the invention makes it possible to see supplementary information (i.e. information other than the current time) on both sides of the timepiece movement, without in any way increasing the bulk of the respective display mechanism. In fact, in the case of a timepiece according to the preferred embodiment that has been described, it is possible, for example, to provide a complete calendar (and therefore in particular the date) displayed on the bridge side by means of the date disc 28, and without having to implement an enlarging means, it is sufficient to provide at least one surface area corresponding to the date value to be displayed visible from the dial side in order to facilitate the recognition of the date from both faces of the timepiece without adding any supplementary parts.

The above description is intended to describe a particular embodiment as a non-limiting illustration, and the invention is not limited to the implementation of some of the particular features just described, such as the large number of digits or characters displayed by the timepiece just described. Although the relevance of the invention increases with the complexity of the corresponding timepiece movement, the implementation of the invention provides certain advantages even with respect to timepiece movements without particular complexity. As described above, the invention makes it possible to display on both sides of the respective timepiece movement, a supplementary quantity chosen from a large number of possible quantities, in particular seconds, minutes, hours, dates, days of the week, months, years, the year in the leap year cycle, the phases of the months, the difference between the civil time and the solar time (or equation of time), the power reserve, etc.

Moreover, the skilled person will be able to implement any suitable structure for allowing or improving the reading of the values displayed on one side or the other of the timepiece movement, without departing from the scope of the invention. As an example, it is possible to provide a timepiece comprising fixed guide marks to define reading guide marks opposite to display members on one and/or the other side of the movement.

In general, it will not be particularly difficult for a person skilled in the art to modify the present teachings and make, according to his or her specific needs, a timepiece movement capable of displaying a predefined number on both sides by using display members at least partially visible from both sides of the movement and carrying at least one indication as to the number to be displayed on each of its faces.
