Technical Field

Background

Cockscomb is one of the most common ornamental plants in the world. The flower has golden, red, orange, yellow and pink colors. Cockscomb seed is a potential food product with a protein content of over 73%. The cockscomb is not only a common flower which is beautiful and lovely in summer and autumn, but also can be made into good medicines and delicacies, and has good body building effect. Cockscomb is used as medicine by flower and seed. The seed has effects of diminishing inflammation, astringing, improving eyesight, lowering blood pressure, and strengthening body, and can be used for treating hematochezia, red and white dysentery, metrorrhagia, stranguria with turbid urine, and eye diseases. When the cockscomb is subjected to drought stress in the cultivation process, a series of physiological changes such as light and efficiency reduction which are not beneficial to the normal growth of the cockscomb can be caused, and the symptoms such as growth inhibition, aging promotion and the like are shown. Improving the seed size and drought tolerance of the cockscomb has important significance for enhancing the stress tolerance of the cockscomb and increasing the seed yield.
