1. A closed system for rehydrating a powder and delivering the rehydrated powder to a reactor, the system comprising:

a reservoir for containing a liquid;

a syringe configured to contain a powder to be rehydrated;

a reactor;

a controller for controlling operation of the injector; and

a conduit fluidly connecting the reservoir to a port of the syringe, the port being fluidly connected to the reactor;

wherein the controller is configured to operate the injector to draw liquid from the reservoir into the injector and rehydrate the powder, or to push the rehydrated powder into the reactor.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the reservoir, the syringe, and the reactor are connected in series by a conduit.

3. A system according to claim 1 or 2, wherein two one-way valves are provided, one of which is placed along the conduit between the reservoir and the syringe, allowing passage only from the reservoir to the syringe; and a second one of the one-way valves is placed along the conduit between the syringe and the reactor, allowing only passage from the syringe to the reactor.

4. The system of any one of claims 1 to 3, further comprising a bubble trap positioned along the conduit to trap and vent gas out of the system.

5. The system of any one of claims 1 to 3, further comprising an actuator for actuating a piston of the syringe.

6. The system of claim 5, wherein the actuator is selected from the group of actuators consisting of an electric motor, a hydraulic motor, and a motorized piston.

7. The system of any one of claims 1 to 6, wherein a powder is provided within the injector.

8. The system of any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the syringe comprises two permeable membranes defining a space within the syringe in which the powder is to be placed.

9. The system of any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the reactor is a lab-on-a-chip.

10. A method for rehydrating a powder and delivering the rehydrated powder to a reactor in a closed system, the method comprising:

providing a system comprising:

a reservoir for containing a liquid;

a syringe configured to contain a powder to be rehydrated;

a reactor;

a controller for controlling operation of the injector; and

a conduit fluidly connecting the reservoir to a port of the syringe, the port being fluidly connected to the reactor; and

causing the controller to operate the injector to draw liquid from the reservoir into the injector and rehydrate the powder, or to push the rehydrated powder into the reactor.

11. The method of claim 10, further comprising connecting the reservoir, the syringe, and the reactor in series via a conduit.

12. The method of claim 10 or 11, further comprising providing two one-way valves, one of the one-way valves being placed along the conduit between the reservoir and the syringe, allowing passage only from the reservoir to the syringe; and a second one of the one-way valves is placed along the conduit between the syringe and the reactor, allowing only passage from the syringe to the reactor.

13. The method of any one of claims 10 to 12, further comprising capturing gas with a bubble trap positioned along the conduit and exhausting gas out of the system.

14. The method of any one of claims 10 to 13, further comprising utilizing an actuator to actuate a plunger of the syringe.

15. The method of any one of claims 10 to 14, further comprising filling the syringe with a powder.

16. The process of any one of claims 10 to 15, carried out under microgravity conditions.
