However, the winding voltage of the series transformer is from the valve side converter, when the UPFC system is in the startup state, generally speaking, the output voltage of the valve side converter does not suddenly change, and the output voltage thereof always gradually rises from 0 to the target voltage according to a predetermined control strategy, and this process is the startup process of the series transformer. Since the voltage across the series transformer is stepped up, if there is a slight winding short in the series transformer, the differential current of the conventional longitudinal differential protection in this phase is also stepped up from 0, that is: the process of generating the differential current is slow, and the value is small, so that if the transformer has a fault in the process, the differential protection cannot act quickly.
