Technical Field

The present invention relates to a binding clip for binding pages of a book.

Background

It is known to bind a bundle of leaves in a binder having a spine and two cover sheets so that the bundle is not only protected by the binder, but can also be professionally displayed.

Such a binding folder is used for binding a bundle of leaves, wherein the bundle is placed in a U-shaped profile of a spine with the side edges to be bound and can be clamped, for example, by folding the arms of the spine towards each other or can be glued in the spine by means of a layer of hot-melt glue.

The disadvantage is that it is necessary to provide a special machine that can fold the arms of the spine or melt the glue layer in the spine.

Binders are also known in which a layer or strip of self-adhesive glue (self-adhesive glue) is provided on the cover sheet, with which the bundle can be attached to the cover sheet after application in the binder.

However, a disadvantage of this known binder is that the glue layer makes it difficult to open the bound bundle. The bound bundle is inconvenient for the user to use.

In the case of frequent use, the bundle may even be detached from the cover sheet of the binder.

To solve this problem, special strengthening leaves are used for the outermost leaves of the bundle. This solution is of course expensive and laborious, since it is always necessary to provide two enhanced leaves for binding the bundle.

Another solution is to place self-adhesive glue on the outermost leaves of the bundle, rather than on the cover sheet of the binder.

This has the disadvantage that it is also necessary to provide special sheets with glue, which makes the system more difficult and more expensive to manufacture.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a solution to at least one of the above and other drawbacks.

Disclosure of Invention

The object of the invention is a binding clip for binding a bundle of leaves of a book, wherein the binding clip comprises a spine and at least one cover sheet, wherein the spine comprises a U-shaped profile having a bottom and two upright arms, wherein the cover sheet is attached to one of the two upright arms, wherein the binding clip is provided with a glue layer for attaching the bundle of leaves in the binding clip, characterized in that said glue layer is placed on a rigid extension of said arms such that said glue layer is not foldable or movable in relation to the U-shaped profile.

This provides the advantage that the bundle of leaves cannot be detached from the glue layer, because the glue layer cannot move relative to the spine. In fact, no force or tension is exerted on the glue layer.

Another advantage is that the bundle of leaves does not have to be provided with special reinforced leaves or special leaves with glue layers, so that these additional costs can be saved.

Another aspect relates to a binding folder according to the invention, but characterised in that the glue layer is applied on the arms such that the glue layer cannot be folded or displaced relative to the U-shaped profile.

In a practical embodiment said arm of the spine is longer than the other arm, wherein the glue layer is applied on the extension of said arm or on the level of said extension.

As a result, if the cover sheet is attached to the arm with the overlapping edges inside the spine, a glue layer will be applied on the arm itself or on the horizontal plane of the arm.

Alternatively, a rigid extension of the arm may be achieved by attaching a cover sheet having a rigid or stiff attachment to the arm, whereby a glue layer is applied in the horizontal plane of the rigid or stiff attachment.

There are many options available to the skilled person in order to achieve a rigid or stiff attachment portion or a flexible attachment portion.

In a practical embodiment, said rigid or stiff attachment is achieved in that the second cover sheet is made of a rigid material, wherein the cover sheet is attached to the arms of the rigid U-profile with overlapping edges.

Alternatively, said rigid or stiff attachment can be realized in that one arm of the spine is longer than the other arm, wherein the second cover sheet is attached to this arm with an overlapping edge.

Although an asymmetric spine is required in this case, this embodiment has the advantage that thicker material (e.g. cardboard or stiff thicker plastic sheet) can be used for the second cover sheet. In fact, the overlapping edge will be larger due to the lower arm, so that the attachment of this second cover sheet will be more secure or robust.

In a preferred embodiment, the binding clip is provided with two cover sheets, wherein a first cover sheet is attached to a first arm of the spine with a flexible attachment so that it can be folded open relative to the first arm, wherein a second cover sheet is applied to a second arm, wherein the glue layer is applied on the second arm or on a rigid extension thereof.

Obviously, the first cover sheet will preferably serve as the front side of the binder.

This provides the advantage that the flexible attachment of the first cover sheet will enable easy and quick turning over of the bundle.

In a practical embodiment the flexible connection is realized by means of a flat strip-like member which is fixed to the edge of the first cover sheet and is more flexible than said first cover sheet, wherein the first cover sheet is fixed with the strip-like member against the arms of the U-shaped spine.

This provides the advantage that the first cover sheet can be easily folded back or opened with respect to the spine or the bundle attached in the binder by means of the flexible band. Here, the first cover sheet itself can be made of a thicker and stronger material, so that the cover sheet is better protected against wear and tear during use.

Alternatively, a flexible connection can be achieved in that the first cover sheet is located in the extension of the arm, wherein a coating is provided around at least the first cover sheet and the arm, such that a kind of hinge is formed between the arm and the first cover sheet.

This provides the advantage that the coating not only allows for a flexible attachment but also for a decorative finish. Depending on the material of the coating, a dirt-or moisture-proof finish of the binder can also be achieved.

fig. 2 schematically shows a cross-section according to line II-II of fig. 1;

FIG. 3 schematically shows the cross-section of FIG. 2, but with a bundle of pages applied;

Detailed Description

The binding 1 shown schematically in fig. 1 is composed of a spine 2 and two front cover sheets 3, 4.

The spine 2 is a U-shaped profile 5 with a bottom 6 and two upright arms 7a, 7 b.

The U-shaped profile 5 is preferably made of a rigid or stiff material (metal in this example), which gives the spine 2 the necessary strength.

For the purposes of the present invention, the spine 2 may, but need not, be provided with a decorative coating, for example applied around the U-profile 5.

In this case, but not necessarily, the two cover sheets 3, 4 are made of two different materials.

In the example shown, the first cover sheet 3, which serves as the front side of the binder 1, is made of a transparent, translucent or semi-transparent material, while the second cover sheet 4, which serves as the back side of the binder 1, is made of a non-translucent or opaque material.

Of course, both cover sheets 3, 4 may also be transparent or opaque.

As shown in fig. 2, the cover sheets 3, 4 are attached to the arms 7a, 7b of the spine 2, wherein the first cover sheet 3 is attached to the first arm 7a with a flexible attachment 8 so that the first cover sheet 3 can be folded open relative to the first arm 7a, and the second cover sheet 4 is attached to the second arm 7b with a rigid or stiff attachment 9 so that the second cover sheet 4 cannot be folded open relative to the second arm 7 b.

In the example shown, the flexible attachment 8 is realized by means of a flat band-like member 10 which is fixed to the edge 11 of the first cover sheet 3 and is more flexible than said first cover sheet 3, wherein the first cover sheet 3 is fixed with the band-like member 11 against the arm 7a of the spine 2.

The band-shaped part 10 is positioned here on the side of the arm 7a facing the inside of the spine 2.

Furthermore, since the second cover sheet 4 is made of a rigid material, said rigid or stiff attachment 9 is realized in this example, wherein the cover sheet 4 is attached to the arm 7b with an overlapping edge 12.

The rigid material may be, for example, cardboard or a synthetic material.

In this case, but not essential to the invention, the second cover sheet 4 is fixed to the side of the arm 7b facing the inside of the spine 2.

On the second cover sheet 4, a glue layer 13 is also provided for attaching the bundle of leaves in the binding 1.

The glue layer 13 is located above the overlapping edge 12. Of course, this is not essential to the invention, for example, the glue layer 13 may also be located on the overlapping edge 12.

Since in this case a self-adhesive glue is used, the glue layer 13 is provided with a removable protective strip 14.

The glue layer 13 may be implemented as one continuous strip extending along the entire length of the spine 2 or along the actual entire length, but may also be implemented in the form of a dashed line, i.e. as an intermittent strip.

The use of the binding 1 is very simple, as shown in fig. 3.

First, and most importantly, the pages are bound into a bundle 15. This may be done, for example, by pinning the sheets together along the edge 16 (e.g., bundle 15 of fig. 3).

The bundle 15 can of course also be sewn or glued.

Subsequently, the protective strip 14 of the glue layer 13 is removed. The bundle 15 is then placed in the spine 2 of the binder 1 together with the bound edge 16.

This does not of course exclude that the bundle 15 is first placed in the spine 2 together with the bound edge 16 and that only the protective strip 14 of glue layer 13 is subsequently removed.

The glue layer 13 is then pressed onto the bundle 15 of leaves by pressing the second cover sheet 4 onto the bundle 15. This causes the glue layer 13 to adhere to the outermost leaves 17 of the bundle 15, thereby causing the bundle 15 to be attached as shown in fig. 3 in the binder 1.

As can also be clearly seen from this figure, the first cover sheet 3 can be easily folded open with respect to the spine 2 and the bundle 15 bound in the spine 2 by means of the flexible attachment 8.

Therefore, it is easy to flip the bundle 15 quickly.

Since the second cover sheet 4 is fixed to the spine 2 with a rigid or stiff attachment 9, the cover sheet 4 will not or hardly move relative to the spine 2. This means that the outermost second cover sheet 4 cannot be folded open.

There will thus be no tension in the connection between the second cover sheet 4 and the bound bundle 15, so that there is no risk of the glue layer 13 and thus of the bound bundle 15 being detached from the binder 1.

Fig. 4 shows a variant according to fig. 2, wherein, in this case, the rigid or stiff attachment 9 is realized in that one arm 7b of the spine 2 is longer than the other arm 7a, wherein the second cover sheet 4 is attached to the arm 7b with an overlapping edge 12.

The second cover sheet 4 is here fixed to the side of the arm 7b facing the outside of the spine 2.

In this case, the flexible connection 8 is realized in that the first cover sheet 3 is located in the extension of the arm 7a, wherein the coating 18 is provided at least around the first cover sheet 3 and the arm 7a, so that a kind of hinge is formed between the arm 7a and the first cover sheet 3.

In this case, but not necessarily, a coating 18 is provided around the cover sheets 3, 4 and the entire spine 2.

The coating 18 may have a decorative print, color, or finish (finish). The material may also be chosen to be, for example, water or stain resistant.

The glue layer 13 is located on said overlapping edge 12.

The rest of the embodiment of fig. 4 and its use are the same as in fig. 2.

It is clear that in an alternative embodiment of the binding 1 according to the invention, the rigid attachment part 9 of fig. 4 can be combined with the flexible attachment part 8 of fig. 2. The rigid attachment portion 9 of fig. 2 may also be combined with the flexible attachment portion of fig. 4.

In all the embodiments shown and described above, the first cover sheet 3 (i.e. the front side of the binder 1) may be omitted, thereby leaving the binder 1 consisting of one cover sheet 4 attached to the spine 2.

Fig. 5 shows a further variant of the binding 1 with a single cover sheet 4 as a variant of fig. 4.

Here, the first cover sheet 3 is omitted and the second cover sheet 4 is applied to the longer arm 7b with the flexible attachment 8 in the same way as the flexible attachment 8 of fig. 4.

This means that the cover sheet 4 is located in the extension of the longer arm 7b, wherein the coating 18 is provided at least around the cover sheet 4 and the arm 7b, so that a kind of hinge is formed between the arm 7b and the first cover sheet 4.

The flexible attachment between the longer arm 7b and the cover sheet 4 of figure 5 is achieved by means of a flat band-like member 10 which is fixed to the edge 11 of the cover sheet 4 and which is more flexible than said cover sheet 4, whereby the cover sheet 4 is fixed against the arm 7b of the spine 2 by means of the band-like member 11.

It is noted that in the variant of fig. 5 and in all the described alternatives of fig. 5, the layer of glue 13 will always be located on the level of the arm 7b, more specifically on the extension of the arm 7 b.

A flexible attachment 8 for attaching the cover sheet 4 on the extended arms 7b can also be applied in fig. 4. Note that this corresponds to the application of the additional cover sheet 3 in the embodiment of fig. 5, so that the binder 1 can be implemented with two cover sheets 3, 4.

The invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described as examples and shown in the drawings, but a binder according to the invention can be realized in various forms and sizes without departing from the scope of the invention.
