1. a method for manufacturing an inductively heatable aerosol-forming rod, the method comprising the steps of:

-separately supplying a first substrate web and a second substrate web to a continuous multi-stage rod forming process comprising at least a first stage and a subsequent second stage;

-supplying a continuous susceptor profile to the rod forming process so as to pass through at least the second stage;

-passing the first and second substrate webs separately through the first stage, thereby separately pre-gathering the first and second substrate webs in a cross direction relative to the respective transport direction of the first and second substrate webs through the first stage; and

-passing the susceptor profile and the pre-assembled first and second substrate webs through the second stage, thereby collectively gathering the pre-assembled first and second substrate webs into a rod shape around the susceptor profile.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of passing the susceptor profile through the second stage comprises passing the susceptor profile through the second stage at least partially along a central axis of the second stage.

3. The method according to any one of claims 1 or 2, wherein supplying the susceptor profile to the rod-forming process comprises supplying the susceptor profile so as to enter the second stage between the first and second substrate webs.

4. The method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein supplying the susceptor profile to the rod forming process comprises supplying the susceptor profile so as to pass through the first stage without contacting the first and second substrate webs before passing through the second stage.

5. The method according to any one of the preceding claims, further comprising the step of guiding the susceptor profile longitudinally along at least an upstream portion of the second stage.

6. An apparatus for manufacturing an inductively heatable aerosol-forming rod, the apparatus comprising:

-a multistage rod forming device comprising at least a first stage and a second stage, wherein the second stage is located downstream of the first stage, wherein the first stage is configured for separately pre-aggregating a first and a second base web in a cross direction relative to a transport direction of the first and second base webs through the first stage as each of the first and second webs passes through the first stage, and wherein the second stage is configured for collectively aggregating the pre-aggregated first and second base webs into a rod shape around the susceptor profile as the susceptor profile and pre-aggregated first and second base webs pass through the second stage;

-a susceptor supply configured for supplying successive susceptors to the rod forming means so as to pass through at least the second stage; and

-a substrate supply configured for supplying the first and second substrate webs to the rod forming device.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein a downstream end of the first stage extends into an upstream end of the second stage.

8. The apparatus of any of claims 6 or 7, wherein the first stage comprises a first hopper for pre-aggregating the first fiber web and a second hopper for pre-aggregating the second fiber web.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the first and second funnels are positioned laterally offset on opposite sides with respect to a central axis of the second stage of the rod forming device.

10. The apparatus according to any one of claims 6 or 7, wherein the first stage comprises a pre-collecting element having a first convex guiding surface converging towards the second stage for pre-collecting the first substrate web towards the second stage as the first substrate web passes the first guiding surface and a second convex guiding surface converging towards the second stage for pre-collecting the second substrate web towards the second stage as the second substrate web passes the second guiding surface.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the pre-aggregation element comprises a sleeve having a tapered outer surface comprising the first and second guide surfaces.

12. The apparatus of any one of claims 10 or 11, wherein the pre-aggregation element comprises at least one separation fin extending between the first and second convex guiding surfaces towards the second stage.

13. The apparatus of any of claims 6 to 12, wherein the second stage of the rod forming device comprises at least one of a funnel or a half-funnel.

14. Apparatus according to any one of claims 6 to 13, further comprising a longitudinal guide for guiding the continuous susceptor profile through at least an upstream portion of the second stage along a central axis of the second stage.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the longitudinal guide extends through the entire first stage and through at least the upstream portion of the second stage.
