在电子产品、冶金、化工、建筑、轨道交通、航天、航空等行业所应用的机电设备、工装和工具都要用到紧固件，并且对高强度的螺栓、螺钉、螺柱和螺母紧固件技术性能的要求很高。目前我国紧固件生产的规模企业，一般生产10.9级及以下级别的紧固件，通常采用高强度材料制造。高强度螺栓的螺杆、螺帽和垫圈，常用45号钢、40硼钢、20锰钛硼钢、35CrMoA等制作。12.9级的国标已有，但能生产制造的企业很少，绝大多数依赖进口。例如美国UNBRAKO公司生产的UNBRAKO牌高强度紧固件，广泛用于我国钢铁、有色金属、电力、汽车、机械设备、电气仪表、环境设备等生产制造型企业，原材料受限，价格过高。
