Technical Field

The present disclosure relates to a system for delivering personalized amounts of exercise to a subject. In particular, the present disclosure relates to systems and methods for delivering personalized amounts of exercise to one or more subjects without the need for a personal trainer or personal mobile device in a gym.

Background

Any reference to prior art methods, apparatus or documents is not to be taken as any evidence or admission that they formed or formed part of the common general knowledge in the past.

It would be desirable to be able to allow fitness enthusiasts to train in a corporate or personal environment without a personal trainer, yet still have the benefit of personal tutoring on their needs and desires, both practically and commercially attractive. It is also useful for fitness enthusiasts to see the guidance during exercise without relying on their own mobile devices.

Currently, those who want to perform a personalized athletic experience in a gym are often limited to two options. The first option is to pay a personal trainer, who can design exercises based on the fitness enthusiast's input and performance and provide assistance to the fitness enthusiast during the exercise. This is both expensive and not suitable for all people. The second option is to carry the mobile device with them during the exercise and run an application that provides personalized exercise, but this option is cumbersome and not a rationalized experience because: (1) people should carry the mobile device with them and continuously check; (2) the exercise equipment is not arranged according to the exercise sequence of a typical exercise application; (3) and these applications do not guarantee the availability of the gym equipment when a person arrives at it.

It is an object of the present invention to overcome or ameliorate the above discussed disadvantages of the prior art, or at least to provide a useful alternative.

The subject 110 may input information such as, but not limited to, general fitness goals, age, gender, preferences, weight, height, etc. on the computing device 102. In some embodiments, the subject 110 may select personal exercise (where the exercise is "amount of exercise") preferences (including, but not limited to, level, muscle group, gender). This may be a single exercise, or it may be a general preference of the day, etc.

At step 2, the computing device 102 communicates with the workout plan determination device 104 (i.e., server) and checks for availability of exercise at the gym location based on information obtained from the subject 110. The computing device 102 may retrieve the availability schedule from the workout plan determination device 104 and the subject 110 may then book the workout by selecting an available gym location, date, time, and duration of the workout. The exercise may be based on a personalized amount of motion of the subject 110, and the exercise may include an exercise scheduled to a particular region of the one or more motion regions at a particular point in time.

Further, the fitness plan determination device 104 may receive and store information of the subject 110 (or information of one or more subjects) from the computing device 102. Further, the fitness plan determination device 104 may store a detailed schedule of the exercise area for each gym, and which of the one or more subjects are to be located in each equipment area at each point in time. When the subject requests exercise or the availability of a reservation, the workout plan determination device 104 may calculate whether there are available exercise zones in a series of consecutive exercise zones to create a complete exercise, and whether the subject's exercise may pass through the exercise zones in sequence without conflicting with the exercise of other subjects. The device 104, in availability/schedule calculations, may recognize that each motion region may have more than one time period and may potentially cater for multiple subjects. When the subject subscribes, the subject's workout (a series of consecutive motion zones in a time series) is submitted to the schedule database of the device 104 to finalize the workout subscription.

The workout determination device 104 may use all of the acquired subject information in conjunction with available information about the gym stored on the workout determination device 104 to calculate and implement a micro-schedule to prevent any conflicting or overlapping workouts. This schedule is altered in real time as changes occur, for example, as subjects modify their amount of exercise during the course of the amount of exercise, which may turn on or off the availability of exercise areas and/or activities for use by additional subjects at particular times.

The fitness plan determination device 104 may provide personalized doses to the subject 110 based on the information of the subject 110 received from the computing device 102.

In step 3, the instruction device 106, which includes the audio/video devices in each motion zone, is a monitor with a computer connected to the device 104, and the exercise schedule, personalized activity instructions, subject information, etc. can be retrieved from the device 104 and presented to the subject 110 at the correct time and location. For example, if subjects like Bob and Alice are in the motion region 108, then the device 106 is instructed to display one or more motions for Bob and Alice, respectively. Thus, although Bob and Alice are moving together, the instructional devices still display different motions for them to move according to their respective personalized amounts of motion as determined by the device 104.

On the device 104 (i.e., the server), when the instruction device 106 requests the schedule, the server returns the subject information and personalized activity instructions applicable to the area and time of the sport. The server does this by maintaining a database of activities and running an algorithm that selects the most appropriate exercise activity based on subject preferences, athletic area equipment, time, and other factors to determine the most appropriate activity. The algorithm is also applicable to manual override.

The subject may enter the gym at a predetermined time and begin exercising without accessing the application. They will then find the personal information and exercise instructions already displayed on the visual display near their first scheduled area of motion without applying any settings or carrying any equipment. They will be guided through the continuous motion area by the visual display.

As can be seen in fig. 1, during step 3, multiple subjects are using the selected motion zones in concert, and are performing personalized exercises by following the visually displayed instructions.

During this step 3, the subject may also optionally register, through the system 100 on the computing device 102, the personal monitoring device with the identification details of his/her personal monitoring device and/or the gym staff may register a power output monitoring device that communicates with the fitness plan determination device 104 for equipment used in a particular area of motion.

In some embodiments, the subject information acquired by the computing device 102 is stored in a network device, such as a storage server. The storage server may be the same as or different from the fitness plan determination device 104 used to determine the personalized amount of exercise of the subject 110. The server or fitness plan determination device 104 may store the following details: a large number of possible locations, available time periods, available exercise areas, equipment and accompanying activities, and information about the appropriateness of each activity, exercise area and/or equipment indexed or scored according to a large number of parameters associated with any subject information acquired.

For example, the fitness plan determining device 104 or server may include a variety of activities suitable for a 56 year old male subject who wishes to perform a balancing exercise against the abdominal muscles, where the subject has previously completed 6 previous exercise amounts and wishes to have a change in each dosage and wishes to maintain a particular heart rate during the exercise amount.

The computing device 102 may collect subject metrics/measurements in real-time, which are stored in a storage server or device 104 and may be presented on the instruction devices 106 in one or more areas of motion.

The system 100 may allow one or more subjects to move in a gym environment according to a personalized amount of motion, or in any location with suitable means to provide instructions and at least one motion area with predefined equipment, while allowing the subjects a flexible choice of whether to move individually or in a community. Further, each subject in the community may have a personalized amount of exercise generated by the fitness plan determination device based on information for each subject.

In an embodiment, the system 100 (or a computing device of the system 100) may also acquire and store information about the subject's desired time, date, duration of the amount of exercise, and/or location of the amount of exercise, and the means for determining the personalized amount of exercise for each subject may utilize this information to determine the selection of options for when and where the subject may complete the amount of exercise. For example, system 100 may be connected to a plurality of different commercial gyms or studios that have different availabilities over different durations of time/day/exercise amounts and/or different exercise styles and/or numbers of subjects similar to subject 110.

Examples of subject information that may be acquired and stored for a particular subject are: male; 38; aerobic exercise; a leg portion; tuesday; 7 o' clock at night; 45 minute dose; and Bondi. In another example, the subject information that may be obtained and stored is: a female; 21; weight loss and rehabilitation; a lower back; sunday; sydney.

The system 100 or computing device 102 may also acquire and store additional information of previous and subsequent amounts of exercise delivered to a particular subject at least one of the fitness plan determination device 104 or the storage server. This additional information may include details about the performance of the subject 110 during any amount of exercise. It should be appreciated that the additional information stored and retrieved in relation to the previous amount of motion may provide information in determining the subsequent personalized amount of motion and may help track his/her progress in the context of the desired goal of the subject 110. Information of previous amounts of exercise may also be used to ensure that there is a change and/or consistency in subsequent amounts of exercise (depending on the desire of the subject for the change or consistency).

The system 100 may also acquire and store subject information related to a parameter selected from the group consisting of: weight, heart rate, blood pressure, body fat percentage, BMI, blood glucose level, ECG, respiratory rate, muscle mass, number of steps, energy expenditure, and energy intensity, and the system can obtain this information from the subject at any time. For example, the subject 110 may provide this information when providing their age and gender, or the information may be obtained from the subject 110 during the exercise amount, or the information may be obtained from the subject 110 occasionally if and when the information becomes available to the subject 110, such as through body composition analysis.

In some embodiments, the device 104 may use this information acquired from the subject 110 to further refine the amount of exercise based on the overall health of the subject 110 in the context of its expected outcome, and/or the performance of the subject 110 in the course of the amount of exercise. The acquired additional information of the subject 110 may also be used to further refine the personalized amount of motion of the subject 110 in the course of the subject 110 performing the personalized amount of motion in real time. For example, in some embodiments, the system 100 acquires information about the subject's heart rate during dosing and, in the context of a desired/acceptable heart rate, modifies instructions for dosing in real-time to maintain, reduce, or increase the heart rate of the subject 110.

The computing device 102 may allow the subject 110 to refine or update the subject information during the personalized quantity of motion to modify the personalized quantity of motion based on, for example, preferences, environmental changes, or issues that may arise during the personalized quantity of motion. For example, the subject 110 may injure himself, need to complete an individual amount of exercise earlier, or find that they lack the personal gear/equipment needed to complete the indicated activity in one or more areas of exercise. This information acquired from the subject 110 during the amount of exercise may be used in a manner to determine a personalized amount of exercise to further refine the amount of exercise and modify the provided instructions, e.g., modify the activity to perform the exercise to avoid injured areas, reduce the duration of the amount of exercise, or replace the activity with an activity that does not require the personal appliance/equipment of the subject 110 to be missing.

The system 100 may obtain information about the subject 110 in a variety of ways. In some embodiments, subject 110 may enter (via voice or text or gestures) information on computing device 102 of a mobile device or desktop computer in communication with a server storing the information. The subject 110 may also input information (e.g., BMI, body fat percentage, muscle mass, etc.) that may be obtained from fitness and/or fitness assessments or body composition analysis, and this may be updated in the device 104 (or storage server) as the subject 110 changes.

In some embodiments, the system 100 may determine a personalized amount of exercise based on the acquired information, pre-stored exercise information, and historical information of the subject 110.

In other embodiments, information about subject 110 (or multiple subjects) may also be obtained by a personal monitoring device that is also in communication with device 104 or a storage server where the information is stored. Non-limiting examples of personal monitoring devices that may be used to obtain information in the system of the present invention include blood glucose monitors, pedometers, and motion/GPS trackers that measure distance traveled (which may also be converted to energy expenditure), cardiac monitors, mobile EKG monitors, wireless blood pressure monitors, and/or EEG sensors. In some embodiments, the device 104 and the storage server communicate with each other.

In some embodiments, the information of the subject 110 may also be obtained from one or more power output monitoring devices connected to the athletic equipment in the athletic area that are in communication with the device 104 and/or a storage server where the information is stored. Examples of such power output monitoring devices include devices connected to a rowing machine, stationary bicycle, stair grinder, treadmill, elliptical machine, snowboard, and/or aerodynamic device. It should be understood that the power output monitoring device associated with this equipment may be used to obtain information about energy expenditure and energy intensity, as well as the overall performance of the subject 110 during the personalized amount of exercise of the subject 110.

The information obtained from the personal monitoring device and the power output monitoring device during the personalized amount of exercise may be used by the fitness plan determination device 104 to determine a subsequent amount of exercise by the subject 110. For example, in some embodiments, an amount of exercise may include an area of exercise with a stationary bike that includes a means to measure distance traveled, the means to measure distance traveled communicates with a server, and information obtained from the bike may be used to increase the distance to be traveled in subsequent amounts of exercise to facilitate improvement.

The information obtained from the personal monitoring device and the power output monitoring device may also be used by the device 104 during the amount of motion to modify the amount of motion. For example, in some embodiments, the amount of motion may include an area of motion having a treadmill that includes a device that measures distance traveled and incline, the device communicating with a server, and information obtained from the treadmill may be used to increase or decrease the intensity of the exercise. In other embodiments of the invention, the system 100 (or the device 104) acquires information about the subject's heart rate as each activity is performed during the course of the dosing exercise, and in the context of the desired heart rate and the calculated energy expenditure, modifies the instructions of the dose in real-time to maintain, reduce, or increase the energy expenditure of the subject 110.

The information obtained from the personal monitoring device and the power output monitoring device in communication with the device 104, as well as any additional information obtained from the subject 110 by any other means, will be stored on the device 104 and available for review and perusal of the subject 110 at any time, at least their age and gender (i.e., their mobile device) being provided in generally the same manner used by the subject 110.

In one embodiment, the system 100 further comprises a reporting device configured to: receiving personalized statistical information about the subject from one or more personal information gathering devices; creating an intelligent report for the subject by measuring and/or interpreting a subject analysis in relation to the subject's initial analysis, and based on personalized statistics, information about the exercise, user input, input from a computing device, statistics derived from a physical scan of the subject, varying the statistics measured during the exercise according to the personalized amount of exercise, and comparing with the statistics before and after the exercise and the subject's long term fitness objective; the subject is presented with a smart report, wherein the smart report is displayed on a computing device. In some embodiments, one or more functions of the reporting device may be performed by the computing device 102. In other embodiments, one or more functions, such as intelligent report creation functions of the reporting device, may be performed by the fitness plan determination device 104.

In some embodiments, the statistical data may be derived from a physical scan of the subject outside of the exercise, and may include metrics measured during the exercise and calculations done after the exercise, information about the exercise, and also include input by the subject 110. Further, the reporting device may work with other devices of the system 100, external computing devices, and information storage devices to calculate personalized statistics for the subject 110.

In some embodiments, the system 100 or the reporting device of the system 100 may use artificial intelligence to interpret the member's monthly body scans, heart rate monitoring reports, and other intelligent reports.

In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the reporting device may be the same as the computing device 104 and may be configured to show information about previous exercises, intelligent meal plans, and performance statistics.

The system 100 of the present disclosure is designed to be used by more than one subject 110 at a time, as each motion region may be used by one or more subjects 110 during the subject's amount of motion. Alternatively, the system 110 may be used by one subject at a time.

The system 110 of the present disclosure is utilized to deliver personalized amounts of exercise by allowing multiple activities to be performed in a single area of exercise, or a single activity to be performed in multiple areas of exercise, as well as combinations thereof. It should be understood that a particular amount of exercise need not utilize all regions of exercise, nor does the subject 110 need to perform all activities in any given region of exercise.

Further, one or more subjects may accomplish the personalized amount of motion in part by traversing the selection of motion regions in a particular order and at a particular time according to provided instructions. In other embodiments, the subject may accomplish the personalized amount of exercise in part by performing a selection of activities in a particular order in the area of exercise according to the provided instructions. In further embodiments, the subject may accomplish the personalized amount of exercise in part by traversing the selection of motion regions in a particular order, wherein each subject of the one or more subjects performs the selection of activities in the particular order in the one or more motion regions and performs a single activity in the one or more motion regions in accordance with instructions provided by the instruction device 106.

In some embodiments, a zone of motion may accommodate two or more subjects simultaneously, and when two or more subjects are in a particular zone of motion, they may be instructed to perform the same activity or different activities, to perform different durations or the same duration, and at different intensities or the same intensity, etc., depending on the acquired information for each subject. It will be appreciated that for each area of motion with specific equipment, there will be a plurality of activities available in the server database to form part of the amount of motion for each subject. For example, in motion area 2, Cari and Dave are subjects performing two different activities (exercises) as displayed on the pointing device 106.

In the present invention, the instruction device 106 may provide instructions to each subject regarding at least the area of motion they are about to perform an activity, the area of motion they are completing, and/or the ordering of the activity. The means for providing instructions is distinct from the means for obtaining subject information, and the means for providing instructions is generally independent of any object or equipment that is required or possessed by subject 110, and generally subject 110 does not need to physically interact with the means for providing instructions. This means that the computing device 102 and the instruction device 106 are different devices. For example, if the subject information is acquired by a mobile device, the mobile device need not provide instructions. Generally, the means for providing instructions is provided by and permanently resides at the location where the amount of exercise is to be accomplished.

The provision of the instructions may be initiated automatically based on desired time, date, and/or location information obtained from subject 110, or the provision of the instructions may require registration or triggering initiation in order to ensure that subject 110 is present. The instructions may also define the duration of the activity, the intensity of the activity, how to use the equipment in the athletic area, when to move to the next athletic area and/or activity, when to rest, etc. The instructions may also display information obtained from the subject 110 from a personal monitoring device and/or a power output monitoring device in communication with the server during the amount of exercise, as well as provide information regarding any changes made to the amount of exercise when the changes are made.

In some embodiments, the instruction device 106 for each subject to perform the activity is an audio/visual display device (i.e., instruction device 106) in the vicinity of the area of motion, and the apparatus is in communication with a server. Proximity means that the subject 110 can see the audio/visual display device from the area of motion, typically while engaged in a prohibited activity. There may be no audio/visual display device in communication with device 104 or the storage server near each area of motion, but in some embodiments of the disclosure there is a separate audio/visual display device for each area of motion. The instructions provided by the audio/visual display device may be in the form of, for example, graphics or diagrams, avatar or written instructions, video, audio clips, or a combination thereof.

The system 100 is configured to continuously learn from member behavior, and can use machine learning to continuously improve exercise not only for individual subjects, but also for groups of subjects.
