Technical Field

The present invention relates to a two-piece bowl for use with a smoking device, the bowl being separable and easy to clean.

Background

The bowl of the smoking device is often very soiled with the resin in the smoking material. Because the bowl blocks are very small, internal cleaning is difficult. When the bowl becomes dirty, the quality of smoking and the user experience is reduced. Although clean, when an individual is smoking, the small particles and resin residue reduce the fresh mouthfeel of the smoking material. To date, most of the bowl blocks have been serviced with a cleaning liquid or brush, but these do not provide thorough cleaning. When users attempt to clean traditional bowl blocks, they can be difficult to clean thoroughly. Cleaning by conventional methods is inefficient and difficult due to the small size and fragility of the bowl blocks. The bowl pieces are often broken up during the cleaning process. For example, dropping the bowl block when using conventional washing methods can cause it to break, which can be frustrating and costly. Because the bowl blocks cannot be thoroughly cleaned, the bowl blocks often become very dirty and difficult to clean. Thus, the conventional bowl blocks of today present a number of problems for the user.

Thus, there is a need for a bowl block that is easy to clean and does not easily break during cleaning.

Detailed Description

Referring now to fig. 1-4, there is shown a two-piece bowl 10 for use with a smoking device 12 in a smoking system 13. The two block bowl includes a first block 14 and a second block 16, and the first block 14 and the second block 16 can be combined to form the two block bowl 10 and can be separated from each other for cleaning. When the first and second blocks 14, 16 are combined, the two block bowl 10 has a bowl 18 for holding smokable material, a stem portion 20 extending from the bowl 18 to engage the smoking device 12, and an airflow aperture 22 extending from the bowl 18 and through the two block bowl 10 to allow an aerosol to flow from the smokable material of the bowl 18 to and through the smoking device 12.

The first block 14 has a first bowl portion 24 for forming a portion of the bowl 18, a first stem member 26 extending from the first bowl portion 24 that forms a portion of the stem portion 20, and a first channel 28 disposed in the first stem member 26 and extending along the length of the first block 14. Similarly, the second bowl block 16 has a second bowl portion 30 that cooperates with the first bowl portion 24 to form the bowl 18; a second stem member 32 extending from the second bowl portion 30 and cooperating with the first stem member 26 to form the stem portion 20; and a second channel 34 disposed within the second lever member 32 and extending along the length of the second bowl block 16. The second channel 34 and the first channel 28 cooperate to form the airflow aperture 22.

First block 14 and second block 16 can be held together to form two-piece bowl 10 by any method known in the art. In one embodiment, the first block 14 can have a recess 36 disposed therein, and the second block 16 can have a projection 38 disposed thereon, the projection 38 being aligned with the recess 36 in the first block. The recess 36 and the protrusion 38 can be snap-fit together. In this embodiment, a portion of the projection 38 may be wider than the mouth of the recess 36, where a certain force is required to push the projection 38 into the recess 36. In another embodiment, the first block 14 and the second block 16 can be held together by a frictional engagement between the projections 38 and the recesses 36. In another embodiment, the projections are bar-like members 39 that are secured in recesses in the first block 14 or the second block 16 and extend beyond the recesses to engage corresponding recesses on the first block 14 or the second block 16.

In another embodiment, the second block 16 has a plurality of recesses 40 disposed therein, the recesses 40 being aligned with the recesses 36 in the first block 14. In this embodiment, the recesses 36 and 40 may have magnets 42 disposed therein. The magnets 42 in the first block 14 and the magnets 42 in the second block 16 attract each other (as having opposite polarities) to hold the first block 14 and the second block 16 together to form the two-piece bowl 10. The recesses 36, 40 and the projections 38 can be located on the first and second bowl sections 24, 30 or the first and second lever members 26, 32 on the first and second bowl blocks 14, 16. Depending on the configuration of the two-piece bowl 10, a plurality of recesses 36, 40 and projections 38 can be disposed on each of the first and second bowl blocks 14, 16. The recesses 36, 40 and projections 38 can be arranged in a mix on the first block 14 and the second block 16 to mate with corresponding recesses or projections on the first block 14 or the second block 16, respectively.

In another embodiment of the invention, the magnets 42 disposed in the recesses 36 of the first block 14 extend beyond the depth of the recesses 36. The thickness of the respective magnet 42 disposed in the respective recess 40 is less than the depth of the recess 40, thereby forming an embedded region above the magnet 42 within the recess 40. The magnets 42 extending out of the recesses 36 of the first block 14 extend into the embedded region above the magnets 42 in the recesses 40 of the second block 16. This provides additional lateral stability to the two blocks 14 and 16 of two-piece bowl 10 and facilitates alignment of the two blocks 14 and 16 of two-piece bowl 10.

Regardless of whether magnets 42 or projections 38 and recesses 36 or recesses 40 are used, first block 14 and second block 16 of two-piece bowl 10 are held together and first block 14 and second block 16 of two-piece bowl 10 are self-aligning. It is to be understood and appreciated that the projection 38 may be part of a rod-like structure that is secured down into one of the recesses 36 or 40.

The protrusion 38 may be a peg, nail, or pin or other male type protrusion, while the recess 36 or recess 40 may be a slot, hole, cavity, or other female type receptacle. The protrusion 38 and the recess 36 or 40 may have any cross-sectional shape, such as square, circular, triangular, hexagonal, etc. The figures depict example locations and sizes of the recesses 36 or 40 that can receive the magnets 42. The magnet 42 may be press fit and/or held therein with glue. In one embodiment, magnet 42 is an 3/16 inch neodymium magnet. Other sizes of magnets may be used depending on the particular embodiment and the particular size of the two-piece bowl 10. In some embodiments, the neodymium magnet may be coated with nickel and/or epoxy, or other coatings.

Two-piece bowl 10 can use materials that allow for tolerance of dropping or damage. In some embodiments, the two-piece bowl 10 is made of aluminum. Other sufficiently rigid and durable materials may also be used. The number of magnets 42 used on each of the blocks 14 and 16 of the two-piece bowl 10 must be sufficient so that the blocks 14 and 16 remain connected to each other during normal, standard use of the two-piece bowl 10. More or fewer magnets 42 than shown and described may be used. Again, the number of magnets 42 should be sufficient to provide sufficient force to couple bowl blocks 14 and 16 so that two block bowls 10 do not separate during use.

In an embodiment of the invention, the first and second blocks 14, 16 may include a surface portion 44 and a surface portion 46, respectively. A first gasket 48 can be secured to the surface portion 44 of the first block 14 or the surface portion 46 of the second block 16 to provide an air tight seal between the first block 14 and the second block 16. The gasket 48 may have any shape to prevent smoke flowing through the airflow aperture 22 from escaping. In another embodiment, the surface portions 44 and 46 may have tongue and groove features that prevent smoke from escaping from the airflow aperture 22.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that this invention is one well adapted to attain the ends and objects set forth above, together with the advantages which are obvious and inherent to the invention. While the preferred embodiments of the invention have been described herein, it is understood that many variations may be made and will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and that such variations are accomplished within the spirit of the disclosure and claims.
