1. A method for controlling a power supply network (10) of an aircraft, the power supply network comprising:

-at least one generator (30) of a turbine-alternator (100) of the aircraft, adapted to provide a source of electric energy from the gas turbine (110), and comprising at least one stator associated with the rectifier (20);

-at least one power distribution bus (50) comprising at least one capacitor (70);

-at least one electric motor (40) to be powered, associated with an inverter (80); and

-at least one energy storage device (90),

characterized in that the method comprises the following steps:

-pre-charging the at least one capacitor (70) in a normal operation mode before the power supply network (10) is energized, when the at least one capacitor (70) is discharged and the gas turbine is available; and

-pre-charging the at least one capacitor (70) in a standby operation mode before the power supply network (10) is energized, when the at least one capacitor (70) is discharged and the gas turbine is not available; and

-discharging the at least one capacitor (70) at the end of the use of the power supply network (10) when the at least one capacitor (70) is charged.

2. Method according to the preceding claim, characterized in that, in a normal operating mode, the step of pre-charging the at least one capacitor (70) is performed by rotating the gas turbine (90) until the voltage of the generator reaches a predetermined threshold voltage (T ™)RS) The turbine is then in the nominal operating mode.

3. The method according to any of the preceding claims, wherein pre-charging the at least one capacitor (70) is performed by a diode bridge of the rectifier (20).

4. Method according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the power supply network (10) is energized when the at least one capacitor (70) is pre-charged.

5. Method according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the voltage of the power distribution bus (50) is adjusted to the no-load voltage of the at least one power storage device when the voltage is switched on.

6. Method according to claim 1, characterized in that in the standby operating mode, the step of pre-charging the at least one capacitor (70) is performed by varying the electromotive force of the at least one electric motor (40) and by controlling an associated inverter (80) to convert the kinetic energy of the electric motor (40) into electrical energy.

7. Method according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that said discharging step is performed by dissipating the electrical energy of said at least one capacitor (70) by means of the impedance of said power supply network (10).

8. Method according to the preceding claim, characterized in that the electric energy dissipated in said at least one capacitor (70) is obtained by connecting in series said at least one generator (30) and a stator resistance (R) of said at least one electric motor (40).

9. Method according to the preceding claim, characterized in that in said standby operating mode, the step of pre-charging said at least one capacitor (70) comprises a preliminary step of disconnecting said at least one power storage device.

Technical Field

The invention relates to the field of power supply for aircraft. The invention relates to a method for controlling an electrical energy power supply network of an aircraft.

The invention is particularly useful in the context of an electrical architecture that integrates a power source including a gas turbine associated with an electrical generator forming a turbine generator, and an electrical energy load or consumer such as an electrical thruster.

The invention is not directed to any particular aircraft and may be applied to helicopters or multi-rotor type fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft.

Background

The prior art includes, but is not limited to, documents U.S. Pat. No. 4, 1, 2008/174177, DE-A1, 102015116154, U.S. Pat. No. 3, 5483142 and FR-A1, 2981225A 1.

In a known manner, the propulsion of aircraft is currently accomplished by means of a gas turbine mechanically coupled to a propulsion element, in particular a fan for a modern turbofan engine, a propeller for a turboprop engine, or a rotor for a turboshaft engine, in particular a rotor for a helicopter turboshaft engine.

As is known, a turbine is coupled with a current generator and an electric motor for driving a propeller, thereby forming a propulsion system.

Thus, with reference to fig. 1, a High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) power supply network 1 is proposed, having at least one rectifier 2 at the output of an alternator 3, followed by a plurality of electrical loads 4 to be powered (the electrical loads comprising, for example, an inverter at the input of an electric motor to deliver alternating current at the output of the inverter for the power supply of the electric motor), the at least one rectifier 2 and the electrical loads 4 being connected to a power distribution bus 5.

For such an electrical architecture, the number of electrical energy sources and electrical loads to be supplied is known, and therefore the main function of such an electrical power supply network is to ensure a sufficient voltage level on the HVDC power supply network and to provide the necessary electrical energy regardless of the demand of the electrical loads to be supplied. An electrical energy source and an electrical load to be supplied are connected to the HVDC power distribution bus.

Such a distribution bus comprises capacitors to filter the voltage supplied to the various electrical loads connected to the distribution bus, in particular to the converter. Therefore, these capacitors must be pre-charged (in other words, they must have a sufficient initial electrostatic energy level) before the power supply network is energized (i.e. before the electrical energy source applies a voltage) to avoid damaging these capacitors or the systems connected to them, resulting in the HVDC power supply network being unusable. In fact, the sudden energization of the discharge capacitor amounts to the generation of a short-circuit current capable of causing significant damage.

Therefore, with reference to fig. 2, it is proposed to use an additional resistive pre-charge circuit 6 connected to the terminals of the capacitor 7 of the distribution bus 5 before the inverter 8 driving the motor 4 is energized, to pre-charge the capacitor with electrical energy from the direct voltage source 2 (e.g. a battery or a diode rectifier). Once the pre-charge is completed, the pre-charge circuit 6 is enabled to control the voltage rise to limit the current in the capacitor 7 due to the resistor, which is then short-circuited by an electrical switch during normal operation.

Furthermore, when the distribution bus 5 is de-energized, the discharge circuit 3, which implements resistors and electrical switches, is used in parallel with the distribution bus 5 to ensure grid safety, in particular in the case of human intervention, for example for maintenance work. This discharge circuit makes it possible to ensure that the capacitor 7 is discharged so as to discharge the energy stored in the capacitor 7 in the form of joule effect, under the effect of the resistance of the discharge circuit, until a certain acceptable voltage threshold is reached.

The disadvantage of these capacitor 7 precharge and discharge circuits is that: when not in use during the flight phase of the aircraft, these circuits are carried on board the aircraft, thus constituting unnecessary extra weight carried on board the aircraft. However, one of the objectives of improving aerodynamic performance is to reduce the weight carried as much as possible.

Solutions have been proposed that enable the pre-charge and discharge circuit to be carried off board the aircraft. These solutions include dedicated systems which are not intended to be carried on board the aircraft, but which remain on the ground, but still require connection means to the power distribution bus, so that the connection interface and its connectors must always be carried on board the aircraft.

The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and effective solution to the above-mentioned drawbacks.

Disclosure of Invention

To this end, the invention relates to a method for controlling an electric power supply network of an aircraft, the electric power supply network comprising:

-at least one generator of a turbine-alternator of the aircraft, adapted to provide a source of electric energy from the gas turbine and comprising at least one stator associated with a rectifier;

-at least one power distribution bus comprising at least one capacitor;

-at least one electric motor to be powered, associated with an inverter; and

-at least one energy storage device,

the method is characterized by comprising the following steps:

-pre-charging the at least one capacitor (70) in a normal operation mode before the power supply network is powered on when the at least one capacitor is discharged and the gas turbine is available; and

-pre-charging the at least one capacitor in a standby operation mode before the power supply network is powered on when the at least one capacitor is discharged and the gas turbine is not available; and

-discharging the at least one capacitor at the end of the use of the power supply network when the at least one capacitor is charged.

Advantageously, in the normal operating mode, the step of pre-charging the at least one capacitor is performed by rotating the gas turbine until the voltage of the generator reaches a predetermined threshold voltage, the turbine then being in nominal operation.

According to one interesting embodiment, the pre-charging of the at least one capacitor is performed by a diode bridge of a rectifier

Thus, the precharging is done using elements already present on the network, without the need for dedicated circuitry.

Preferably and advantageously, the power supply network is energised when the at least one capacitor is pre-charged.

Preferably and advantageously, the voltage of the power distribution bus is adjusted to the no-load voltage of the at least one power storage device when powered on to avoid circulating current peaks.

Advantageously, in the standby operating mode, the step of pre-charging the at least one capacitor is performed by varying the electromotive force of the at least one electric motor and by controlling the associated inverter to convert the kinetic energy of the electric motor into electrical energy.

Advantageously, the discharging step is performed by dissipating electrical energy of the at least one capacitor by means of an impedance of the power supply network.

According to one example implementation, the electrical energy dissipated in the at least one capacitor is obtained by connecting in series, via control of the converter, the stator resistances of the at least one generator and the at least one motor.

Preferably and advantageously, in the standby operating mode, the step of pre-charging the at least one capacitor comprises a preliminary step of disconnecting the at least one power storage device. If a step-down/step-up type controllable direct current/direct current (DC/DC) converter is present between the buffer storage means, i.e. the battery, and the capacitor, the current injection, i.e. the voltage rise at the terminals of the capacitor (not shown), can also be controlled, which also ensures the HVDC bus pre-charging function.

The control method according to the present invention enables the following functions to be independently ensured:

-pre-charging the capacitor in a normal operation mode with the rotation of the gas turbine before the initial power-up of the network;

-discharging the capacitor at the end of the use of the network, dissipating the energy stored in the capacitor with the impedance of the network, to ensure the safety of the network and the safety of the personnel who intervene on the network;

-pre-charging the capacitor after network reconfiguration during flight using inertial kinetic energy caused by the rotation of the rotor of the motor.

The control method according to the invention thus enables the aircraft itself to dispense with dedicated pre-charging and discharging circuits of the capacitors, to reduce the onboard mass of the aircraft and to improve the aerodynamic efficiency of the aircraft, while ensuring the charging and discharging functions required as a prerequisite for the correct operation of the aircraft or for safety reasons.

Detailed Description

Fig. 3 shows an HVDC electrical network 10 of an aircraft, the HVDC electrical network 10 comprising:

generator 30 of a turbine-alternator 100 of an aircraft, adapted to provide a source of electric energy from gas turbine 90 and comprising at least one stator associated with an active rectifier 20 comprising a control device 21.

At least one power distribution bus 50 comprising a plurality of capacitors 70 (at least one capacitor for each power converter connected to the power distribution bus 50);

at least one electric motor 40 to be powered, driving for example a propeller or a rotor to ensure the propulsion of the aircraft, and associated with an inverter 80 comprising control means 81; and

at least one energy storage device 110, which may be a battery, a super capacitor, or the like.

The control method according to the present invention includes the steps of:

pre-charging the capacitor 70 in a normal operation mode before the power supply network 10 is powered on when the capacitor 70 is discharged and the gas turbine is available;

pre-charging the capacitor 70 in a standby operation mode before the power supply network 10 is powered on when the capacitor 70 is discharged and the gas turbine is not available; and

discharging the capacitor 70 at the end of the use of the power supply network 10 when the capacitor 70 is charged.

More specifically, with reference to fig. 4a to 5, for the step of pre-charging the capacitor 70 in the normal operating mode, initially the capacitor 70 is discharged, the gas turbine is shut down, and no electrical storage device is connected. The pre-charging of the capacitor 70 is performed by starting and rotating the gas turbine.

Thus, as shown in fig. 4a, the rotational speed of the gas turbine (indicated by V) is gradually increased during start-up until a nominal speed V is reachedTN. This initial climb rate phase has a duration (denoted by t) of about several tens of seconds.

Since the output shaft of the gas turbine is directly connected to the rotor of the generator 30, the rotational speed of the generator 30 is proportional to the rotational speed of the gas turbine. According to an example implementation, a speed reduction stage may be provided between the gas turbine and the generator 30.

In a first operating phase, corresponding to the start-up of the gas turbine, the active rectifier 20 is not controlled and operates as a diode rectifier (passive), the output voltage of the rectifier 20 being correlated to the rotation speed of the rotor of the generator 30, in particular in the case of a synchronous machine of the generator 30 with magnet type, the output voltage of the rectifier 20 being proportional to the rotation speed of the rotor of the generator 30.

Fig. 4b shows that during a first phase corresponding to the start-up of the gas turbine the output voltage of the rectifier 20 (denoted by T) increases until a threshold value T is reachedRS. During the first phase of the voltage rise of the reduction gearbox 20, the voltage of the distribution bus 50 (generated by the passive rectification of the alternating voltage provided by the stator phases of the generator 30 by the anti-parallel diodes of the rectifier 20) is not sufficient to enable direct control of the voltage of the distribution bus.

When the voltage supplied by the rectifier reaches the threshold voltage TRSThe control device 21 of the rectifier 20 of the active rectifier (step-up) type can then be used to regulate the voltage of the distribution bus 50.

In a second operating phase, the output voltage of the rectifier 20 is controlled by the control device 21 and is independent of the speed of the gas turbine, then the rectifier 20, driven as an active rectifier, enables the recharging of the capacitor 70 of the distribution bus 50 up to its nominal voltage TNM(as indicated by the arrows in fig. 5).

When the power network 10 is energized, it is recommended to supply the voltage T of the distribution bus 50NMRegulating the no-load voltage to a power storage device or power connected to the power distribution bus 50The idle voltage of the device 110 is stored to avoid circulating current peaks.

When the power network 10 is not in use, the gas turbine 90 is no longer rotating, the generator 30 is off, and the power storage component 110 is isolated from the power distribution bus 50 so that the voltage of the power network 10 is regulated to the voltage applied by the capacitor 70. The battery is disconnected to enable the capacitor to discharge. In particular, the energy stored in the battery is larger than the energy stored in the capacitor, for example 1000 times larger.

Referring to fig. 6, the capacitor 70 becomes the high voltage energy source S. In the absence of an energy consuming system connected to the power distribution bus 50, the electrostatic energy stored in the capacitor 70 can only be discharged by joule effect, by self-discharge of the capacitor 70. However, because the capacitor 70 is designed to have as little loss as possible: from a few minutes to a few hours, this self-discharge phenomenon is very slow. Thus, a high residual voltage may remain on the power distribution bus 50 for a long time after all of the electrical systems (rectifier 20, inverter 80, and storage device 110) connected to the power distribution bus 50 are shut down. However, during interventions on the power network 10, for example for maintenance, the voltage of the power distribution bus 50 must be below a predetermined threshold, in other words, the electrostatic energy level of the power distribution bus 50 must be below a predetermined threshold to ensure operator safety.

Still referring to fig. 6, during the discharging step of the method according to the invention, the generator 30 and the motor 40 become a resistance R suitable for dissipating the energy stored in the capacitor 70 by joule effect. Thus, the arrows in fig. 7 show the current circulation during this discharging step, i.e. the transfer of capacitive energy from the capacitor 70 to the stator resistance R (generator 30 and motor 40).

The rectifier 20 and the inverter 80 integrate in their respective control means 21, 81 a specific control mode dedicated to the discharge of the capacitor. From a macroscopic point of view, this is equivalent to connecting a plurality of RL-type circuits in series, one circuit corresponding to the stator phase of the motor 30 or 40.

Two solutions can be employed to ensure discharge:

a first solution is to make the first semiconductor conductive, called the "top" of the inverter, for example the semiconductor connected to phase 1, and the second semiconductor conductive, called the "bottom" to ensure electrical continuity, for example the semiconductor connected to phase 2 or 3;

a second solution is to inject current into the motor using current control of the inverter, the current value being low enough not to ensure rotor rotation. This current injection manner enables a sufficiently fast discharge until the voltage is too low to ensure the controllability of the inverter.

Before this, if the energy storage devices 110 are connected to the power network 10, they should be disconnected before this step of discharging the capacitors 70.

The voltage of the power distribution bus 50 is measured to provide information related to the state of charge of the capacitor 70. For example, when the voltage of the capacitor 70 is below a predetermined threshold value at which human intervention is safe, the control means 21 of the rectifier 20 and the control means 81 of the inverter 80 control the stopping of the discharging step by keeping the converters 20, 80 in a blocking state, respectively.

In a standby mode of operation, the step of pre-charging capacitor 70 is performed by converting the kinetic energy of motor 40 and the driven load (e.g., a rotor or propeller) into electrical energy, for example, after power source 20-30 is disconnected (e.g., in the event of a power failure (gas turbine shutdown or very slow speed, shutdown of generator 30 due to a risk of overheating, etc.). This step is illustrated in fig. 8. Thus, the module comprising the generator 30 and the rectifier 40 is not available, whereas the module comprising the capacitor 70 and the distribution bus 50 needs to hold the voltage.

When the motor 40 is rotating all the time, kinetic energy is always available in the rotor.

The inverter 80 is similar in construction to an active rectifier, so that the current flowing through the inverter 80 is bi-directional. Thus, the inverter 80-motor 40 assembly with kinetic energy is used to convert a portion of its kinetic energy into electrical energy and maintain the voltage of the distribution bus, in other words, the charge level of the capacitor 70. For this purpose, the control device 81 of the inverter 80 may introduce demagnetization or apply deceleration to the rotor of the motor 40 to change the electromotive force of the motor 40, thereby transmitting electric energy to the distribution bus 50 as indicated by the arrows in fig. 8 and maintaining the energy charge level of the capacitor 70.

During this standby operating phase, very little energy is available, and therefore, in order to maintain the charge of the capacitor 70, it is necessary to adjust the power consumed by the other loads connected to the power network 10.

The control method according to the invention can be implemented in all types of HVDC networks comprising one or more turbine generators (turbines associated with generators), one or more rectifiers, and for example also the presence or absence of electric power storage devices, mounted in parallel on the power distribution bus 50.
