The method and system can be used for catalytic reforming of hydrocarbon feedstocks in the petroleum and chemical processing industries. The process includes contacting a hydrocarbon feedstream (typically, including naphtha fraction) with a catalyst contained in heating tubes of a reactor, the catalyst being disposed on a substrate within the heating tubes, and providing heat to the furnace heating tubes. The catalyst comprises a non-acidic catalyst effective to form aromatic hydrocarbons by catalytically reforming the feedstream hydrocarbons, such as an L-zeolite. The system includes a reformer reactor containing heating tubes and a catalyst disposed on a substrate within the heating tubes of a contained furnace, and a heat source that provides heat to the furnace heating tubes for the catalytic reforming of the feed stream hydrocarbons to form aromatic hydrocarbons.)
