1. A method (1) for identifying the source of a pressure transient in a water distribution network (4), the water distribution network (4) comprising a plurality of high frequency pressure sensors (42 to 42 "') installed in the water distribution network (4), the method comprising:

-an acquisition step (10), said acquisition step (10) being intended to acquire, during a preset time limit, a plurality of pressure values of each high-frequency pressure sensor, said plurality of pressure values defining a sampled pressure variation record in the vicinity of each sensor during said preset time limit;

-a detection step (11), said detection step (11) being for detecting transient events in said sampled pressure change recording;

-a grouping step (12), the grouping step (12) for grouping detected transient events in the sampled pressure change record; and

-a locating step (13), said locating step (13) being for locating the source of the grouped transient event from the sampled pressure change record.

2. The method (1) according to claim 1, wherein in the detecting step (11) each pressure change exceeding a predetermined threshold for a short time predetermined time range is detected as a transient event for each sampled pressure change record of each high frequency pressure sensor.

A method (1) according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the grouping step (12) comprises a preliminary filtering step (121), the preliminary filtering step (121) being configured to remove uncorrelated transient events from the packets according to their shape and/or amplitude and/or frequency and/or duration.

The method (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein, in the grouping step (12), each detected transient event is associated (122) with a corresponding feature, the transient event being grouped (125) with other transient events of the same record (123) having corresponding features (124).

A method (1) according to claim 4, wherein said positioning step (13) comprises a cross-checking sub-step (132), said cross-checking sub-step (132) comparing said transient grouped with external information data (131) received from at least one other plant cooperating with said water distribution network in order to associate a set of transient events with cooperating plant operations.

6. Method (1) according to claim 5, wherein the external information data (131) comprises at least data related to pump operation and/or valve operation and/or significant customer consumption and/or hydrant operation.

7. The method (1) according to claim 5 or 6, the external information data (131) comprising a timestamp associated with a cooperating device operation or a location associated with the cooperating device operation.

8. The method (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 7, wherein the grouping step (12) includes grouping (128) transient events detected in different records (123) associated with different sensors within the same time range (126).

9. The method (1) according to claim 8, wherein the same time range (126) is calculated from a pressure wave propagation model in the water network, so as to group (128) each transient that may emanate from the same source.

A method (1) according to claim 8 or 9, wherein the positioning step (13) comprises a triangulation sub-step (133), the triangulation sub-step (133) being intended to determine the position of a transient event source from a set of transient events (128) detected by different sensors within the same time frame.

Method (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 10, comprising a severity estimation step (14), wherein each set of transient events (125, 128) is associated with a severity score calculated from the shape and/or amplitude and/or frequency and/or duration of each transient of the set and from the estimated position (13) of the transient events (125, 128) of the set.

12. The method (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 11, comprising a mitigation step (15), said mitigation step (15) being for mitigating pressure transient events according to a positioning of a source of said group of transient events and/or according to a fitting plant operation.

13. The method (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 12, comprising a pressure adjustment step (16), the pressure adjustment step (16) adjusting the high pressure in the water network by detecting a maximum pressure value for each set of transient events (125, 128), and determining an adjustment measure for the water network to reduce the maximum pressure value in dependence on the set of transient events (125, 128) and on the positioning of the source of the set of transient events.

14. An apparatus (44) for identifying the source of a pressure transient in a water distribution network (4), the water distribution network (4) comprising a plurality of high frequency pressure sensors (42 to 42 "') installed in the water distribution network (4), the apparatus comprising:

-means for acquiring a plurality of pressure values for each high frequency pressure sensor during a preset time limit, said plurality of pressure values defining a sampled pressure change record in the vicinity of each sensor during said preset time limit;

-means for detecting transient events in the sampled pressure change record;

-means for grouping detected transient events in the sampled pressure change record; and

-means for locating the source of the grouped transient event from the sampled pressure change record.

15. A drinking water network (4) comprising a plurality of high frequency pressure sensors (42 to 42 "') and a device (44) for identifying the source of a pressure transient according to claim 14.
