Referring to fig. 1 to 7, a mechanical device for helping the elderly to go up and down stairs comprises a strip-shaped rail plate 1 for being mounted on the inner surface of a stair buttress 0, and a walking assisting mechanism 2 disposed on the rail plate 1 and capable of moving along the length direction of the rail plate 1.
