1. A drinking or eating vessel comprising an inner surface defining a volume for receiving liquid or solid food, and an outer surface supporting a polymeric coating and a decorative layer;

wherein the polymeric coating comprises a polymer formed by curing a coating mixture on an exterior surface of a drinking or eating vessel, the coating mixture comprising a matting agent;

wherein the polymeric coating has an inner surface for contact with a drinking or eating vessel and an exposed outer surface for contact by a user of the vessel; and

wherein the decorative layer forms a diffusion layer within the polymer coating.

2. The drinking or eating vessel of claim 1, wherein the matting agent comprises silica particles.

3. The drinking or eating vessel of claim 2, wherein the matting agent comprises precipitated silica.

4. The drinking or eating vessel of claim 1, wherein the vessel comprises ceramic and/or glass.

5. The drinking or eating vessel of claim 1, wherein the polymeric coating comprises: (i) a polymer selected from polyurethane, epoxy, acrylic, or mixtures thereof; and (ii) the matting agent.

6. The drinking or eating vessel of claim 1, wherein the decorative layer is formed from dye sublimation.

7. A method of producing a drinking or eating vessel having a decorative layer, wherein the vessel includes an inner surface defining a volume for receiving liquid or solid food and an outer surface supporting a polymeric coating and decorative layer, the method comprising the steps of:

providing a coating mixture containing a matting agent;

applying the coating mixture to the outer surface of the drinking or eating vessel;

curing the coating mixture to form a polymeric coating having an inner surface and an outer surface, the inner surface being in contact with the outer surface of the drinking or eating vessel; and

an image is applied to an outer surface of the polymer coating using dye sublimation to form a decorative layer, wherein the decorative layer forms a diffusion layer within the polymer coating.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the matting agent comprises silica particles.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the matting agent comprises precipitated silica.

10. The method of claim 7, wherein the coating mixture comprises the matting agent in an amount of 10 to 100g per liter of coating mixture.

11. The method of claim 7, wherein the coating mixture includes the matting agent in an amount of 60 grams per liter of the coating mixture.

12. The method of claim 7, wherein the coating mixture is applied by spraying or by dip coating.

13. The method of claim 7, wherein the coating mixture is cured at a temperature of less than 600 ℃.

14. The method as recited in claim 7, wherein the coating mixture is cured at a temperature in the range of 180-240 ℃.

15. The method of claim 7, wherein the polymer coating comprises: (i) a polymer selected from the group consisting of polyurethane, epoxy, acrylic, or mixtures thereof, and (ii) the matting agent.
