1. A heatable hair styling apparatus, said apparatus comprising:

a heat transfer member; and

a composite coating disposed on a surface of the heat transfer member, the coating having ceramic and lava rock bonded thereto.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the lava rock is selected from the group consisting of: kema, bitter olive basalt, basalt andesite, imperial rock, rhyolite, nepheline, syenite, trongylite, bixite, macroconite, basalt macroconite, alcalidite, sonolite, scoria, tuff, andesite, pumice, and lava.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the lava rock is in the form of particles having a diameter of about 10nm to about 25 μ ι η.

4. The device of claim 1, wherein the composite coating has a thickness of about 5 μ ι η to about 100 μ ι η.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a protective coating disposed on the composite coating, the protective coating having a thickness of about 100nm to about 50 μ ι η.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the heat transfer member is plate-shaped or cylindrical in shape.

7. The apparatus of claim 6, wherein the cylindrical shape is frusto-conical.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the heat transfer member is a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heating element.

9. A hair dryer, comprising:

an air inlet;

a motor;

a blade assembly;

a hot air outlet; and

a heat transfer member having a composite coating on a surface thereof, the composite coating having ceramic and lava incorporated therein.

10. The blower of claim 9, wherein the heat transfer member is a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heating element.

11. The blower of claim 10, wherein the PTC heating element comprises:

a first surface facing the air inlet;

a second surface facing the hot air outlet; and

a plurality of apertures extending through the first surface and the second surface,

wherein the composite coating is disposed on at least one of the first surface and the second surface.

12. The blower of claim 11, wherein the composite coating is disposed on both the first surface and the second surface.

13. The blower of claim 11, wherein the PTC heating element is a honeycomb PTC heating element.

14. The blower of claim 11, wherein said PTC heating element is a reticulated PTC heating element.

15. The blower of claim 11, wherein said PTC heating element is a corrugated fin PTC heating element.

16. The blower of claim 10, wherein said PTC heating element is a cylindrical PTC heating element.

17. The blower of claim 9, wherein the lava is selected from the group consisting of: kema, bitter olive basalt, basalt andesite, imperial rock, rhyolite, nepheline, syenite, trongylite, bixite, macroconite, basalt macroconite, alcalidite, sonolite, scoria, tuff, andesite, pumice, and lava.

18. The blower of claim 9, wherein the lava rock is in the form of particles having a diameter of about 10nm to about 25 μm.

19. The blower of claim 9, wherein the composite coating has a thickness of about 5 μm to about 100 μm.

20. The blower of claim 9, further comprising a protective coating disposed on the composite coating.

Technical Field

The present invention relates to hair styling devices, and in particular to hair straighteners, hair dryers and hair curlers.

Background

The hair styling apparatus comprises a heating device and a blowing device. Among other things, hair styling irons typically include two handles or arms pivotally hinged at one end. Each handle comprises a gripping portion located on the outside of the handle and extending from the hinged end to the middle portion of the iron for gripping by a user. Each handle also includes a heated plate located on the inside of the handle and extending longitudinally from a mid-portion of the handle to or near the end of the handle opposite the hinged end. The heating plate is usually made of metal, alloy or ceramic. It is preferred that the heating plate is made of ceramic, because heating plates made of metal or alloy are generally less gentle to the hair. An electrical heating element located below each heating plate is used to heat the heating plates to a predetermined temperature, which may be set by a digital or analog temperature controller located on one of the handles. After heating the iron to the desired or operating temperature, the heating plates are positioned above and below the lock of hair to be styled and the hinged handles are closed towards each other, bringing the heating plates into contact with the lock of hair. The handle is then moved relative to the lock of hair to cause the heating plates to travel along the lock of hair until they are clear from between the heating plates.

In a hair dryer, hot, warm or ambient temperature air is blown through the hair to effect drying and/or styling. The blower may be hand held or mounted upright.

In a curling iron, hair is manually or mechanically wound around a cylindrical heating element to heat and curl the hair.

Summary of The Invention

Provided herein are hair styling devices, including methods of making and using such devices, which are intended to address some of the drawbacks and problems of known hair styling devices.
