Technical Field

The present invention relates to the field of external parts for timepieces, and more particularly to timepieces comprising a dial with a three-dimensional ornamental piece.

Background

To enhance the traditional display components, some timepieces include, between the bottom plate of the dial and the mirror, a decorative piece that imparts a particular feature to the timepiece. Optionally, the decorative element includes an automated graphic, a relief pattern, or a combination of both. The decorative element may be made of precious, brittle material (e.g. glass or nacre) or of heavier material (e.g. metal).

European patent application No.3339979A discloses a dial provided with a three-dimensional ornamental piece offset from the dial bottom plate and fixed to the bottom plate via at least one leg. The ornamental piece is mounted on the foot by means of a tube arranged to be pressed against the upper step of the foot and to rest on the shoulder of the foot. This type of attachment is stable, but for trim pieces with larger size and weight, multiple feet are required, which increases the complexity of the dial.

Disclosure of Invention

The aim of the present invention is to provide a dial provided with a three-dimensional decoration fixed to the dial by means of attachment means that increase the mechanical stability and the resistance to shocks and vibrations of the decoration compared to the existing solutions.

This object is achieved by a dial and a timepiece according to the appended claims.

Further characteristics and advantages of the invention will become apparent in the following description of preferred embodiments, given by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Detailed Description

Fig. 1 and the exploded views of fig. 2a and 2b show a bottom plate 1 of a watch dial according to one embodiment. The bottom plate is a plate forming only a part of the dial formed by assembling the plate 1 to one or more further plates. According to other embodiments, the dial comprises only one bottom plate. The three-dimensional trim piece 2 is secured to the base panel and is offset away from and above the base panel. The ornamental piece 2 may be an ornamental element made of a rigid material such as metal, mother-of-pearl or any other material. The decorative piece 2 comprises an upper surface 3 intended to be arranged facing the watch mirror and a lower surface 4 intended to be arranged on the dial side.

According to the invention, the decorative element 2 is held in a fixed position relative to the base plate 1 by means of an assembly formed by a plurality of elements, which assembly has only one attachment point on the base plate 1, which attachment point is realized by means of a fixing screw 5, which fixing screw 5 is screwed into a threaded hole 6 formed in the base plate 1. The other elements of the assembly are visible in fig. 2a and 2 b. It can be seen that the decorative element 2 is supported at two separate support points 10 and 11 by a support bar 12 and a foot 13, respectively (fig. 1). The support points 10 and 11 are defined as points on a perpendicular line passing through the center of the attachment means attaching the leg 13 and the support bar 12 to the garnish 2; examples of these devices are described in detail below.

The support bar 12 is a component comprising at least one inclined or curved central portion such that the projection of the support point 10 in the plane of the base plate 1 is remote from the set screw 5. According to the embodiment shown in the figures, the support bar 12 is a rigid component in the form of a tilting arm 18, which tilting arm 18 comprises at its proximal end a first plate 14 provided with a through hole 15 and at its distal end a second plate 16 also provided with a through hole 17. The first plate 14 is inserted or in other words embedded in the cavity 20 of the base plate 1 at the bottom provided with the threaded holes 6. The fixing screws 5 pass through holes 15 in the first plate 14. The second plate 16 is preferably parallel to the first plate 14. The second panel 16 is inserted or otherwise embedded in a cavity 21 formed in the lower surface 4 of the trim piece 2. Said cavity 21 is provided with a central spindle 22, which central spindle 22 passes through the hole 17 in the second plate 16. The second plate 16 is fixed to the garnish 2 by adhesive bonding or welding. The arms 18 are angled so that the support rods 12 maintain a fixed distance between the base plate 1 and the lower surface 4 of the trim piece 2.

In general, the foot 13 has a proximal end held in a fixed position in the plane of the base plate 1 and a distal end attached to the lower surface 4 of the trim piece 2 at a second support point 11, the projection of the second point 11 in the plane of the base plate 1 being remote from the projection of the fixing screw 5 and the first point 10. Preferably, the two projections of the points 10 and 11 form a triangle with the centre of the fixing screw 5. In the embodiment shown in the figures, the foot 13 comprises a spindle 23, which spindle 23 is in the form of an auxiliary screw 23, which auxiliary screw 23 is screwed at its distal end into a threaded hole 24 provided in the lower surface 4 of the trim piece 2, said threaded hole 24 preferably not opening onto the upper surface 3 of the trim piece. The auxiliary screw 23 has at its proximal end a screw head 25, which screw head 25 is inserted into a cavity 26 provided in the base plate 1, which cavity 26 secures the spindle in the plane of the base plate 1, wherein a silicone washer 27 is located between the bottom of the cavity 26 and the screw head 25.

The auxiliary screw 23 and the fixing screw 5 are connected to each other in the lateral direction by a spacer 30 installed above the first plate 14 of the support bar 12. The spacer 30 has a first through hole 31 allowing the fixing screw 5 to pass through the top of the spacer 30 and a second through hole 32 beside the first hole 31, the second through hole 32 allowing the auxiliary screw 23 to pass through the bottom of the spacer 30. When the fixing screw 5 is tightened, it fixes the support rod 12 and the spacer 30 to the dial base plate 1. At the same time, the spacer 30 holds the head 25 of the auxiliary screw 23 in the cavity 26, while forming a transverse connection between the fixing screw 5 and the leg 13 (in this case the auxiliary screw 23). A rigid tube 33 surrounds a portion of the auxiliary screw 23, the tube 33 being pressed between the lower surface 4 of the ornamental piece 2 and the spacer 30 when the auxiliary screw 23 is tightened. A cavity 35 is provided in the lower surface 4 of the trim piece for receiving the end of the tube 33. At the bottom of the cavity 35 there is a threaded hole 24 for receiving the end of the auxiliary screw 23.

Figures 3a-3c show the above-mentioned elements in cross-section. In the embodiment shown in the figures, the fixing screws 5 are not covered by the trim piece 2. This allows easy access to the set screw 5 for tightening the screw. However, embodiments in which the fixing screws 5 are partially or completely covered by the trim piece 2 are not excluded from the scope of the present invention. In this case, it is necessary to access the head of the screw 5 from the side by a small-sized wrench or key in order to tighten the set screw 5.

The garnish 2 is fixed to the base plate 1 by the following steps from the assembly of various elements. The auxiliary screw 23 is inserted into the hole 32 of the spacer 30 and into the tube 33. The support rod 12 is attached to the lower surface 4 of the trim piece 2 at point 10 and the auxiliary screw 23 is screwed into said lower surface 4 at point 11. The tube 33 ensures that the trim part 2 remains at a fixed distance from the spacer 30 when the auxiliary screw 23 is tightened. The decorative element 2 provided with the component assembly is then mounted on the base plate 1 by placing the screw heads 25 in the cavities 26, the cavities 26 receiving silicone washers 27 at the bottom of said cavities 26. The silicone gasket has shock and vibration absorbing functions and counteracts tolerance differences of the stacked elements while providing support on the dial. Finally, the fixing screws 5 are inserted into the holes 31 and 15, and the fixing screws 5 are tightened by screwing the fixing screws 5 into the screw holes 6 in the bottom plate 1.

The assembly makes it possible to distribute the shocks and/or vibrations between the fixing screws 5, the support bar 12 and the feet 13 via the spacers 30, wherein the vibrations and shocks are absorbed by the silicone washers 27. The system also makes it possible to distribute the weight of the decorative element 2 over these elements. Thus, in both cases, the load on the fixing screw 5 is reduced, and this makes the mounting of the heavy trim 2 more reliable.

Several technical details described with respect to the embodiments shown in the drawings do not limit the scope of the present invention. For example, the feet 13 may have different shapes and be attached to the trim piece 2 and/or the base plate 1 in an alternative manner, for example by welding or adhesive bonding. It may be a spindle which is joined or welded to the lower surface 4 of the trim part 2 and is provided with a section enlargement which performs the same function as the screw head 25 of the auxiliary screw 23. In the latter case, the tube 33 may be omitted. The silicone gasket 27 may be made of another material having impact absorbing properties. For certain weight and/or material trim pieces, the gasket 27 may not be needed. The support rods 12 can be fixed to the lower surface 4 of the trim piece by means other than the plate 16. The plate 14 can also be replaced by an equivalent element that allows fixing the support rods 12 and the spacers 30 by screwing onto the bottom plate 1.
