1. An electrode assembly for an implantable medical device, the assembly comprising:

a sleeve defining a longitudinal axis of the assembly, the sleeve including a distal terminal end, an elongated aperture extending proximally along the axis from a distal opening of the sleeve at the distal terminal end, an external groove extending about the aperture, and a plurality of channels, each channel of the plurality of channels extending from the groove to the distal terminal end;

a distal electrode secured to the sleeve and extending distally from the distal terminal end of the sleeve;

a steroid eluting component disposed within and secured to the outer groove of the sleeve; and

wherein the plurality of channels of the sleeve provide fluid communication between the steroid eluting component and a region distal to the distal terminal end of the sleeve.

2. The assembly of claim 1, wherein some or all of the plurality of sleeve channels extend from a distal edge of the sleeve recess.

3. The assembly of any of claims 1-2, wherein at least one of the plurality of sleeve channels extends through a bottom of the sleeve groove.

4. The assembly of any one of claims 1-3, wherein a portion of the steroid eluting component extends within at least one of the plurality of sleeve channels.

5. The assembly of any of claims 1-4, wherein some or all of the plurality of sleeve channels are formed in an outer surface of the sleeve.

6. The assembly of any one of claims 1-5, wherein some or all of the plurality of sleeve channels are formed in an inner surface of the sleeve, the inner surface defining the sleeve bore.

7. The assembly of any one of claims 1-6, wherein the bottoms of some or all of the plurality of sleeve channels are inclined toward the longitudinal axis of the assembly, closer to the axis at the distal terminus of the sleeve.

8. The assembly of any one of claims 1-7, wherein some or all of the plurality of sleeve channels are evenly spaced from each other about the sleeve bore, the even spacing being about 60 degrees.

9. The assembly of any one of claims 1-8, further comprising an electrically conductive coupling member mounted within the sleeve bore and secured to a proximal portion of the distal electrode extending within the bore of the sleeve, and wherein the coupling member engages an inner surface of the sleeve defining the sleeve bore to prevent rotation of the distal electrode relative to the sleeve.

10. The assembly of any one of claims 1-9, wherein the sleeve is formed entirely of an insulating material.

11. The assembly of claim 10, further comprising a proximal electrode secured to the proximal end of the sleeve.

12. The assembly of claim 11, wherein the proximal electrode comprises a ring mounted around an outer surface of the sleeve.

13. The assembly of claim 11, further comprising a coupling member mounted within the sleeve bore proximate the proximal end of the sleeve, the coupling member securing the proximal electrode to the sleeve.

14. The assembly of claim 13, wherein:

the coupling member includes a proximal portion and a distal portion, the distal portion of the coupling member is mounted within the sleeve bore, and the proximal portion of the coupling member extends proximally from the proximal end of the sleeve; and

the proximal electrode includes an elongated coil having a distal end coupled to the proximal portion of the coupling member.
