2. The polymer as claimed in claim 1, wherein the proportion by weight of phosphorus is at least 8.5% by weight, preferably at least 9% by weight, particularly preferably at least 9.5% by weight and most particularly preferably at least 10% by weight.

3. The polymer of claim 1 or 2, wherein compound I is selected from pentaerythritol tetraacrylate (PETA), dipentaerythritol hexaacrylate (DPEHA) and tris (2-acryloyloxyethyl) isocyanurate (thecta).

4. The polymer according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the reaction of the first step is carried out under catalysis by a catalyst selected from tertiary amines and tertiary amine bases, preferably triethylamine.

5. The polymer of claim 1 or 2, wherein the reaction of the second step is carried out by emulsion or suspension polymerization.

6. The polymer of claim 1 or 2, wherein the average number of molar masses of the polymerAt least 20,000g/mol, particularly preferably at least 40,000g/mol, particularly preferably at least 80,000 g/mol.

7. A process for producing polymers, which comprises the process measures as defined in claims 1 to 6.

8. The process according to claim 7, wherein the second step is carried out by adding one or more methacrylates and/or acrylates of the formula IV,

wherein the compounds of the formulae IV and III are added in such a molar ratio that the polymer obtained contains not less than 6% by weight of phosphorus.

9. A flame retardant composition comprising the polymer of any one of claims 1 to 6.

10. The flame retardant composition of claim 9, comprising at least one additional flame retardant ingredient selected from the group consisting of: nitrogen bases, melamine derivatives, phosphates, pyrophosphates, polyphosphates, organic and inorganic phosphinates, organic and inorganic phosphonates and derivatives of the above compounds, preferably selected from ammonium polyphosphates; ammonium polyphosphates coated and/or coated and crosslinked with melamine, melamine resins, melamine derivatives, silanes, siloxanes (silicones), polysiloxanes (silicones) or polystyrene; and 1, 3, 5-triazine compounds including melamine, melam, melem, melon (melon), ammeline (ammeline), ammelide (ammelide), 2-ureidomelamine, acetoguanamine, benzoguanamine, diaminephenyl triazine, melamine salts and adducts, melamine cyanurate, melamine borate, melamine orthophosphate, melamine pyrophosphate, dimelamine pyrophosphate, aluminum diethylphosphinate and melamine polyphosphate, polyphosphates of oligomeric and polymeric 1, 3, 5-triazine compounds and 1, 3, 5-triazine compounds, guanine, piperazine phosphate, piperazine polyphosphate, ethylenediamine phosphate, pentaerythritol, dipentaerythritol, boron phosphate, 1, 3, 5-trihydroxyethyl isocyanurate, 1-isocyanurate, 3, 5-triglycidyl isocyanurate, triallyl isocyanurate and derivatives of the above compounds.

11. The flame retardant composition of claim 10, wherein the ratio of polymer to at least one further flame retardant ingredient in the flame retardant composition is from 1: 18 to 1: 4, preferably from 1: 9 to 1: 4 and particularly preferably from 1: 6 to 1: 4.

12. Use of a polymer as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 6 as a flame retardant in the manufacture of a plastics composition or in a flame retardant composition as claimed in any one of claims 9 to 11.

13. Use according to claim 12, wherein the plastic composition is selected from filled and unfilled polyamides, polyesters and polyolefins.

14. Use according to claim 12 or 13, wherein the polymer is added in an amount of 1 to 20 wt. -%, preferably between 1 and 15 wt. -%, particularly preferably 2 to 10 wt. -%, relative to the total weight of the plastic composition containing the polymer.

15. Use according to claim 12 or 13, wherein the flame retardant composition according to any one of claims 9 to 11 is added to the plastic composition, wherein the content of the flame retardant composition in the plastic composition is 2 to 30 wt. -%, preferably 5 to 25 wt. -%, particularly preferably 10 to 20 wt. -%, most preferably 15 to 20 wt. -%, relative to the total weight of the plastic composition containing the flame retardant composition.

16. A plastic composition comprising the polymer of any one of claims 1 to 6.
