1. An apparatus, comprising:

a first portion and a second portion having a hinge end rotatably fixed relative to a hinge rod;

a u-shaped friction arm extending from a first end positioned around the hinge rod to a second end positioned around the hinge rod; and the number of the first and second groups,

an ejection assembly located along the hinge rod between the first end and the second end and configured to generate a bias to rotate the first and second portions away from each other.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the u-shaped friction arm is curvilinear between the first and second ends.

3. A device according to claim 1, wherein the u-shaped friction arm has straight side members extending from the hinge rod and connected by a straight member perpendicular to the straight side members.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the u-shaped friction arm defines a first aperture at the first end and a second aperture at the second end, and wherein the first and second apertures include a rounded area and a flat area facing the hinge rod.

5. The apparatus of claim 4, wherein the hinge rod includes a friction surface over a portion of a diameter of the hinge rod, and wherein friction between the hinge rod and the u-shaped friction arm is greater when a single rounded area is opposite the friction surface than when a single flat area is opposite the friction surface.

6. The device of claim 1, wherein the ejection assembly is nested within the u-shaped friction arm.

7. The device of claim 1, wherein the ejection assembly comprises a spring.

8. The device of claim 1, wherein the ejection assembly is configured to generate a force, and wherein the force is applied to the hinge rod over a range of rotation between the first and second portions to create the bias, and wherein the force is applied to the u-shaped friction arm over a different range of rotation to create a resistance to rotation about the hinge rod.

9. The device of claim 8, wherein the ejection assembly comprises a force-transmitting element that couples the force to the hinge rod or the u-shaped friction arm depending on the orientation of the first and second portions.

10. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the force transfer element comprises an ejection arm that is spring biased against the u-shaped friction arm except within the range of rotation.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein a protrusion on the hinge lever contacts the ejection arm and forces the ejection arm away from the u-shaped friction arm over the range of rotation.

12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein contact between the ejection arm and the protrusion on the hinge lever creates the bias to rotate the first and second portions away from each other.

13. An apparatus, comprising:

a first portion comprising a first display and rotatably coupled to a second portion comprising a second display by a hinge assembly; and the number of the first and second groups,

a spring alternatively coupled to the first and second portions to bias the first and second portions away from each other, or coupled to the hinge assembly to increase resistance to rotation of the first and second portions, based on the orientation of the first and second portions.

14. The device of claim 13, wherein the hinge assembly comprises a pop-up arm and a friction arm, and wherein the pop-up arm couples or decouples the spring to the friction arm depending on the orientation of the first and second portions.

15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the friction arm is u-shaped from a first end positioned about a hinge axis of the hinge assembly to a second end positioned about the hinge axis.
