Manual processes typically employ hammers, shovels, scrapers, steel brushes, and the like. Ordinary thick rust spots are first loosened with a hammer and then removed with a spatula. The method has the advantages of simple operation, low equipment cost, high labor intensity, low rust removal efficiency, severe rust removal environment and great harm to the health of constructors, and secondly, the scale such as oxide on the surface of the ship body is difficult to remove, and the rust removal effect is poor.

The chemical treatment mainly adopts a treatment method of chemically reacting acid with metal oxide so as to remove metal rust products on the surface, which is commonly called acid cleaning and rust removal, and the concentration of acid cleaning solution and acid cleaning time are the key points of the method.
