1. Device (1) for cutting at least one sheet (2) of material, comprising:

-a cutting chamber (3) equipped with an inlet (4) and an outlet (5), said cutting chamber (3) being configured to house at least a portion of a sheet (2) lying on a plane (α);

-cutting means (8) suitable for cutting said sheet (2) in a cutting chamber (3); and

a control unit (C) configured to control the apparatus (1),

further comprising at least one closing element (10) located at the inlet (4) and/or at the outlet (5) of the cutting chamber (3), said closing element (10) being movable between an open position, in which at least one portion of the closing element (10) is at a first distance from the plane (a), and a closed position, in which said at least one portion of the closing element (10) is at a second distance from the plane (a), said second distance being smaller than said first distance, said distances being measured along a direction substantially orthogonal to the plane (a) in which the sheet (2) lies.

2. Device (1) according to claim 1, wherein the closing element (10) is configured to abut against a surface (S) of the sheet (2) of material to be cut in the closed position.

3. Device (1) according to claim 1, wherein, in the closed position, the second distance of the closing element (10) with respect to the plane (a) can be selected by selection means.

4. Device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said control unit is configured to keep said closing element (10) in said closed position during activation of said cutting device (8).

5. Device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said control unit is configured to keep said closing element (10) in said open position when said cutting device (8) is not activated.

6. The device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, comprising conveying means (6) adapted to feed said sheets (2) to said cutting chamber (3) along an advancement direction (Y), wherein said conveying means (6) comprise a conveyor belt passing through said cutting chamber (3).

The device (1) according to claim 6, further comprising a feeding device (13) of the sheets (2) on the conveying device (6), the feeding device (13) comprising a movable plane (14) feeding the sheets (2) to the conveying device (6), wherein the movable plane (14) is movable towards and away from an end of the conveying device (6) between a retracted position and a feeding position, in which the movable plane (14) partially overlaps the conveying device (6).

8. Device (1) according to claim 7, wherein said movable plane (14) is supported by a support structure (F') rotatably fixed with said device (1) forming a folded feeding device.

9. Apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said closing element (10) is configured to retain the fed sheet (2) on the conveyor belt (6).

Device (1) according to claim 9 and claim 7 or 8, wherein said feeding means (13) comprise at least one retaining element (15), said at least one retaining element (15) being adapted to retain the sheet (2) during the approaching movement of the movable plane (14) and to release said retention when the movable plane (14) is moved away, said retaining element (15) cooperating with said closing element (10) which is adapted to abut against a surface of the sheet (2) when the movable plane (14) is in said feeding position, so as to retain the sheet (2) when the movable plane (14) is moved away.

Device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, comprising a first detector element arranged at the closure element (10) and adapted to detect the presence of an operator, said first detector element being operatively connected with the control unit, said control unit being configured to automatically perform the opening of the closure element (10) in case the presence of an operator is detected by said first detector element, and to automatically perform the closing of the closure element (10) in case the presence of an operator is not detected.

12. The apparatus (1) according to claim 10, wherein said first detector element comprises a photocell array.

13. Device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, further comprising moving means adapted to move said closing element (10) between said open position and said closed position, said moving means being connected to said control unit for automatically controlling the movement of said closing element (10).

14. The device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, comprising an image detector (7) adapted to image at least a portion of the sheet (2), said image detector (7) being arranged upstream (3) of the cutting chamber and/or in the cutting chamber (3).

15. The device (1) according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the material to be cut comprises a plurality of sheets (2) stacked on top of each other.

Prior Art

As is well known in the art, there are devices that are capable of automatically cutting sheets according to a preset cutting pattern, the material to be cut being for example leather/hide, textile, non-woven, synthetic, etc.

In particular, these devices are equipped with a conveyor belt capable of moving the sheet to be cut inside a cutting chamber equipped with a movable cutting head for processing the material. The material to be cut is generally retained on the conveyor belt by suction means arranged below the conveyor belt to ensure the desired retention of the sheet.

The noise level of these devices is known to be high, in particular due to the very high vibration frequency of the cutting head, and the noise generated by the suction means used to hold the material; it is therefore desirable to reduce the noise of these devices.

Furthermore, in particular in the case of cutting overlapped sheets, the suction means are not sufficient to ensure the retention of the material to be cut, and it is known that the upper layer is easily moved during the cutting step, thus often resulting in a non-optimal process. Therefore, there is also a need for an effective retention system when cutting overlapped sheets.

The technical problem underlying the present invention is to provide a device for cutting sheets having structural and functional characteristics such as to overcome the above-mentioned limitations and drawbacks which still affect the known solutions, in order to optimize the processing of the sheets.

Summary of The Invention

The idea of the solution of the invention is to equip the device for cutting sheets with a closing element that is movable between an open position, in which the cutting chamber can be accessed, which looks like an open tunnel, and a closed position at the entrance (or even the exit) of the chamber or space in which the material treatment takes place, and in which the cutting chamber cannot be accessed. Preferably, the closing element is adapted to hold the material to be cut when the closing element is in the closed position; in this way, the closing element, suitably motorized and automatically moved, remains closed when the material is cut, allowing to suitably retain the material and reducing the noise of the device.

Based on the idea of said solution, the above technical problem is solved by a device for cutting at least one sheet of material, comprising: a cutting chamber provided with an inlet and an outlet, the cutting chamber being configured to receive at least a portion of the sheet lying on a plane; a cutting device adapted to cut the sheet in the cutting chamber; and a control unit configured as a control device, characterized by comprising at least one closing element at the inlet and/or outlet of the cutting chamber, said closing element being movable between an open position, in which at least one portion of the closing element is at a first distance from the plane of the sheet, and a closed position, in which at least one portion of the closing element is at a second distance from said plane, the second distance being smaller than the first distance, said distances being measured along a direction substantially orthogonal to the plane of the sheet. In the case of a conveyor belt, the distance is measured along a direction substantially orthogonal to the direction of advance.

More specifically, the present invention includes the following additional features, which may be employed individually or in combination, if desired.

Typically, the closing element is configured such that it abuts against the surface of the sheet to be cut when it is in the closed position/configuration.

According to an aspect of the invention, in the closed position, the closing element may thus abut against the surface of the piece of material to be cut.

According to another aspect of the invention, in the closed position, the second distance of the closing element relative to the surface of the piece of material to be cut can be manually selected by the selection means.

According to another aspect of the invention, the control unit may be configured to maintain the closure element in the closed position during activation of the cutting device.

Similarly, the control unit may be configured to keep the closing element in the open position when the cutting device is not activated.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may comprise conveying means adapted to feed the sheets to the cutting chamber in an advancement direction.

In particular, the conveying means may comprise a conveyor belt passing through the cutting chamber.

According to another aspect of the invention, the apparatus may comprise a feeding device for feeding sheets of material on the conveyor, said feeding device comprising a movable plane for feeding the sheets towards the conveyor, wherein the movable plane is movable towards and away from the end of the conveyor between a retracted position and a feeding position in which the movable plane partially overlaps (partially above) the conveyor, the movement of the movable plane being manual or automatic.

According to another aspect of the invention, the movable plane may be supported by a support structure rotatably fixed with the device, so as to form a folded feeding device, the rotational movement of the support structure with respect to the device being able to take place manually or automatically. In other words, the movable plane performs a rotational movement in addition to a translational movement, and can be folded.

According to another aspect of the invention, the closing element may be configured to hold the fed sheet on the conveyor belt (e.g. when the movable plane is in the feeding position).

According to another aspect of the invention, the feeding means may comprise a retaining element adapted to retain the tab during the approaching movement of the movable plane and to release said retention when the movable plane moves away, the retaining element cooperating with the closing element, which is adapted to abut against a surface of the tab when the movable plane is in the feeding position, so as to retain the tab when the movable plane moves away.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may comprise a first detector element arranged at the closing element and adapted to detect the presence of an operator, said first detector element being operatively connected to the control unit, the control unit being configured to automatically perform the opening of the closing element in case said first detector element detects the presence of an operator and to close the closing element in case the presence of an operator is not detected.

In particular, the first detector element may comprise at least one photocell, preferably an array of photocells.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may further comprise a second detector element adapted to detect the presence of an operator to control the activation of the cutting device, the second detector element being arranged within the cutting chamber between the closure element and the cutting device.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may comprise moving means adapted to move the closing element between the open position and the closed position, said moving means being connected to the control unit for automatically controlling the movement of the closing element. In particular, the moving means may comprise an electric motor.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may comprise an image detector adapted to image at least a portion of the sheet, said image detector being arranged upstream of and/or in the cutting chamber.

Furthermore, the sheet to be cut may comprise a plurality of sheets stacked on top of each other.

Finally, the device of the invention may comprise a suitable frame supporting the closing element.

The characteristics and advantages of the device of the invention will become apparent from the description of an embodiment thereof, given by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
