1. Device (1) for cutting at least one sheet of material, comprising:

-a cutting chamber (3) provided with a loading inlet (4) and an unloading outlet (5), said cutting chamber being configured to receive at least a portion of the sheet to be cut;

-cutting means adapted to cut said sheet in said cutting chamber (3);

-a control unit (C) configured to control the apparatus (1); and

-a conveyor belt (6) adapted to feed the sheet into the cutting chamber (3) along an advancement direction (Y),

characterized in that said device (1) comprises a closing element (10a) at least at said discharge outlet (5) of said cutting chamber (3), said closing element (10a) being movable between an open position, in which at least a portion thereof is at a first distance from the surface of said piece or from the surface of said conveyor belt (6) which is allowed to enter the cutting chamber (3), and a closed position, in which said portion is at a second distance from the surface of said piece or from the surface of said conveyor belt, said second distance being smaller than said first distance, said distance being measured along a direction substantially orthogonal to the surface of said piece or to the surface of said conveyor belt (6).

2. Device (1) according to claim 1, wherein the closing element (10a) is configured to abut against the surface of the sheet to be cut in the closed position.

3. Device (1) according to claim 1, wherein in the closed position the second distance of the closing element with respect to the surface of the sheet or the surface of the conveyor belt (6) can be selected by means of a selection device.

4. Device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said control unit (C) is configured to keep said closing element (10a) in said closed position during activation of said cutting device.

5. Device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said control unit (C) is configured to keep said closing element (10a) in said open position when said cutting device is not activated.

6. Device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, further comprising movement means adapted to move said closing element (10a) between said open position and said closed position, said movement means being connected to said control unit (C) for automatically controlling the movement of said closing element (10 a).

7. The device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, comprising a first detector element (9) arranged at said closing element (10a) and adapted to detect the presence of an operator, said first detector element (9) being operatively connected with said control unit (C) configured to automatically perform the opening of said closing element (10 a).

8. The device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, comprising an image detector (7), said image detector (7) being adapted to image at least a portion of said sheet, said image detector (7) being arranged upstream of said cutting chamber (3) and/or in said cutting chamber (3).

9. The device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, further comprising a closing element (10b) at the loading inlet (4) of the cutting chamber (3).

10. Device (1) according to claim 9, wherein the closing element (10b) at the loading entrance (4) is configured to cooperate with a feeding device (12) for feeding the sheets, which are fed by holding them on the conveyor belt (6) during their feeding.

11. Device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the movement of the conveyor belt (6) is reversible and wherein the closing element (10a) is located at the loading side of the device (1).

12. The device (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said cutting means comprise a cutting head (8 ') mounted on a movable carriage (8 "), the orientation of said cutting head (8') being reversible so as to make said device (1) symmetrical.

Prior Art

As is well known in the art, there are devices that are capable of automatically cutting sheets according to a preset cutting pattern, the material to be cut being for example leather/hide, textile, non-woven, synthetic material, etc.

In particular, these devices are equipped with a conveyor belt capable of moving the sheet to be cut inside a cutting chamber equipped with a movable cutting head for processing the material. The material to be cut is generally retained on the conveyor belt by suction means arranged below the conveyor belt to ensure the desired retention of the sheet.

The noise level of these devices is known to be high, in particular due to the very high vibration frequency of the cutting head, and the noise generated by the suction means used to hold the material; it is therefore desirable to reduce the noise of these devices.

Furthermore, in particular in the case of cutting overlapped sheets, the suction means are not sufficient to ensure the retention of the material to be cut and, during the cutting step, the upper layer is easily moved, thus often resulting in a non-optimal process.

Furthermore, still in the case of overlapped sheets, the cut portions need to be collected at the end of the cutting step, which requires the raising of the sheets at the outlet of the cutting chamber, which creates the risk of shifting of the portions of material still to be cut inside the cutting chamber.

Therefore, there is also a need for a retention system for overlapped sheets that is effective.

The technical problem underlying the present invention is to provide a device for cutting sheets having structural and functional characteristics such as to overcome the above-mentioned limitations and drawbacks which still affect the known solutions, so as to optimize the processing of the sheets and the subsequent collection of the cut portions.

It is another object of the present invention to reduce the noise level of the above-described device.

Summary of The Invention

On the basis of the present invention, the idea of the solution is to equip the device for cutting sheet material with a closing element at least at the outlet of the chamber or space in which the material treatment (cutting) takes place, the closing element being movable between an open position, in which the cutting chamber can be accessed, which looks like an open tunnel, and a closed position, in which the cutting chamber cannot be accessed, and the closing element presses on the material to hold it in place. This may reduce the noise of the device, in addition to allowing the material to be held properly. If the operator wishes, the distance between the material and the screen can also be chosen at will in the closed position, leaving a small free space between them, so that the screen does not abut against the material.

Based on the idea of this solution, the above technical problem is solved by a device for cutting at least one sheet of material, comprising: a cutting chamber provided with a loading inlet and an unloading outlet, said cutting chamber being configured to receive at least a portion of a sheet to be cut, cutting means adapted to cut the sheet in the cutting chamber, a control unit, configured to control the device, and a conveyor belt adapted to feed the sheet into the cutting chamber in an advancing direction, characterized in that said device comprises a closing element at least at the unloading outlet of said cutting chamber, the closure element is movable between an open position, in which it is movable, at least a portion of which is at a first distance from the surface of the sheet or from the surface of the conveyor belt, allowing access to the cutting chamber, and in a closed position, which is at a second distance from the surface of the sheet or from the surface of the conveyor belt, which second distance is smaller than the first distance, these distances are measured in a direction substantially orthogonal to the surface of the sheet or the surface of the conveyor belt.

More specifically, the present invention includes the following additional and optional features, which may be employed individually or in combination, if desired.

Typically, the closure element is configured such that when it is in the closed position/configuration it abuts against a surface of the sheet of material to be cut. Indeed, according to an aspect of the invention, the closing element is configured to abut against a surface of the piece of material to be cut in the closed position.

Alternatively, in the closed position, the second distance of the closing element relative to the surface of the sheet or the surface of the conveyor belt can be selected by the selection means.

According to an aspect of the invention, the control unit may be configured to keep the closing element in the closed position during activation of the cutting device.

According to another aspect of the invention, the control unit may be configured to keep the closing element in the open position when the cutting device is not activated.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may further comprise moving means adapted to move the closing element between the open position and the closed position, these moving means being connected to the control unit for automatically controlling the movement of the closing element.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may further comprise a first detector element arranged at the closing element and adapted to detect the presence of an operator, the first detector element being operatively connected with a control unit configured to automatically perform the opening of the closing element in case the presence of an operator is detected by the first detector element and to automatically perform the closing of the closing element in case the presence of an operator is not detected.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may further comprise image detectors adapted to image at least a portion of the sheet, the image detectors being arranged upstream of and/or in the cutting chamber.

According to another aspect of the invention, the movement of the conveyor belt is reversible and the closing element is an element located at the input of the cutting chamber. I.e. the closing element is currently located at the loading side of the device. The closing element of the invention reduces the overall dimensions and forms a very versatile device with respect to the known solutions in which a large box structure is present at the outlet.

Furthermore, the cutting device may comprise a cutting head mounted on a movable carriage, the orientation of the cutting head being reversible so as to make the device of the invention symmetrical.

According to another aspect of the invention, the device may further comprise a closing element at the loading inlet of the cutting chamber.

Finally, the closing element at the loading inlet may be configured to cooperate with a feeding device for feeding the sheets, in particular by holding the sheets on a conveyor belt during the sheet feeding process.

The characteristics and advantages of the device of the invention will become apparent from the description of an embodiment thereof, given by way of non-limiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings.
