Examples

Table 1 below describes the composition of the aerosol-generating film, and the formulation of the film-forming composition from which the aerosol-generating film was obtained.

Table 1:

aerosol-generating films were produced based on the compositions in table 1. For this, HPMC and agar were mixed in glycerol with stirring until dissolved. Water, nicotine and levulinic acid were then added with stirring until dissolved. A layer of the film-forming composition thus obtained is formed on a planar surface and left to cure. A layer of the film-forming composition was formed to a thickness of about 210 microns. The layer of film-forming composition so formed is heated to about 140 degrees celsius for about 8 minutes.

The aerosol-generating film obtained after drying is a solid. In other words, the aerosol-generating film has a stable size and shape and does not flow. The term "stable" is used herein to indicate that the aerosol-generating film according to the invention substantially retains its shape and quality when exposed to various environmental conditions. Thus, it does not substantially release or absorb water when exposed to standard temperatures and pressures while varying the relative humidity from about 10% to about 60%.

This is particularly advantageous as it ensures that the film according to the invention does not release liquid phase during storage or during transport, e.g. from a manufacturing facility to a point of sale.

The aerosol-generating film prepared as described above was heated to a temperature of about 180 degrees celsius to about 250 degrees celsius to simulate the conditions of use in an aerosol-generating device. Nicotine, glycerin and water contained in the film evaporate. The nicotine and glycerin condense to form an inhalable aerosol. The aerosol-generating film shrinks slightly, so its volume decreases. However, the membrane remains solid and maintains its membrane form. It appeared slightly harder and appeared darker brown.
