Technical Field

The invention relates to a beam-shaped bridge made of steel sheet for a heavy-duty internal combustion engine, which is a one-piece, inverted longitudinal cup-shaped hollow body having two side walls connected by a transverse wall, wherein the transverse wall has a force introduction region for a gas exchange valve on its inner side at each longitudinal end and a control surface for a periodic stroke generator on its outer side.

Background

By "heavy-duty internal combustion engine" is understood a machine which is used, in particular, for driving trucks, transporters, light transporters, agricultural work apparatus, ships, mining or construction equipment, etc.

An elongated steel plate bridge for a heavy-duty internal combustion engine is known from DE 202019104421U 1, the transverse walls of which have a centrally arched section with control surfaces for a periodic stroke generator, in this case a rocker arm of a valve train. The likewise slightly bulged side walls are connected at the longitudinal ends by transverse plates.

EP 2305967B 1 shows in fig. 1 (a) a bridge in the form of a solid structure which also has on its transverse walls raised contact areas for the hydraulic pistons of a mating retainer of an engine brake device of the "decompression brake" type.

Further bridges in the form of solid structures for internal combustion engines with engine braking devices of the last-mentioned type are known from the specialist book "foundation for commercial vehicle technology" (2016), ISBN 978-3-7812-.

Disclosure of Invention

The object is to create a bridge of the type mentioned at the outset which is of very simple construction and at the same time is suitable for different applications.

According to the invention, this object is achieved in that the transverse wall and the side walls depending from its parallel longitudinal edges are continuous flat plates, wherein a strip-shaped web extends from each end face of the transverse wall, the web is bent back at a first section by 180 ° onto the inner side of the transverse wall, the force introduction zone configured as a contact zone for the gas exchange valve is located on the outer side of the first section, to which a second section is connected, which is perpendicularly remote from the inner side, the outer wall of the second section serving as a guide surface for the gas exchange valve.

A very simple-structured and in few method steps produced by press bending for heavy-duty internal combustion engines is therefore provided, which can be assigned to two identically acting gas exchange valves of a valve train of the internal combustion engine.

The bridge has three completely non-projecting, straight extending walls (transverse walls and parallel side walls depending therefrom), which walls are preferably substantially free of complementary machining. The forming effort is therefore kept within limits and relatively simple deep-drawing tools can be used. The webs at both ends, which are bent inward at 180 °, serve to support the bridge on the end faces of the rods of the two gas exchange valves and finally to double the thickness of the transverse wall. The installation distance between the stroke generator and the end of the gas exchange valve can thus be well grasped.

It is conceivable for the two webs to also be provided so long on the inner side of the transverse wall that they are at least almost in contact. For the purpose of guiding on the valve rod, the webs can be provided with corresponding recesses, such as slots or the like.

In particular, rocker arms, rocker levers or drag levers are considered as stroke generators. Furthermore, tappet action or, if appropriate, direct cam actuation (nockenlauf) can also be considered.

In the second section on the end side of the two webs (which projects perpendicularly from the transverse wall), the bridge is guided well in its longitudinal direction on the gas exchange valve. The transverse guides of the bridge receive the inner sides of the side walls, which inner sides bear appropriately against the outer walls of the two webs. There is a relatively rigid structure.

According to a particularly preferred first development of the invention, at least one contact region for a contact element of an engine brake device of the internal combustion engine is also provided on the outside of the transverse wall, in the longitudinal direction, next to the actuating surface for the stroke generator. The contact piece can be, for example, the base of a hydraulic pressure piece, by means of which the bridge piece assigned to the outlet valve is actuated/tilted on one side, for example, in the case of a desired pressure reduction.

The control surface and/or the at least one contact region, as proposed, are not additionally deformed/configured for the mating operation thereof. The corresponding loading takes place very simply on the flat outer side of the transverse wall. In addition, in the case of the use of additional contact regions, this has the advantage that the bridge does not have to be assembled in an oriented manner.

According to an embodiment of the invention, the inner or outer side of the bridge can also be coated at least in sections with a hard material layer, such as a DLC layer. At least the coated sections are here the contact zones on the two inner sides and the control surfaces, and if appropriate also on the outer sides of the transverse walls.

If it is also necessary to bridge a greater distance between the stroke generator and the end of the gas exchange valve than can be achieved by doubling the plate thickness of the bridge, it is advisable to use a spacer plate between the web and the inner side of the transverse wall. If necessary, these plates or similar objects, such as caps, can also be mounted below the tabs.

Further dependent claims relate to the plate thickness of the bridge. The plate thickness should be in the range of 2mm to 10mm, with a particularly preferred range being 3mm to 6 mm.

Detailed Description

Fig. 1 (a) and (b) show a beam-like bridge for a heavy-duty internal combustion engine. The bridge 1 comprises, for example, a 4mm thick steel plate (thick plate) and is manufactured by a press bending technique. As can be seen, the bridge 1 has an inverted U-shaped cross-section. Two side walls 3 depend from the longitudinal edge 9 of the transverse wall 2 lying above. The transverse walls 2 and the side walls 3 are present as straight, smooth-walled plates, so that the main deep-drawing process is very simple.

A strip-shaped web 11 extends from each end face 10 of the transverse wall 2, said web being bent back through 180 ° onto the inner side 4 of the transverse wall 2 and bearing there with a first section 12 against the inner side 4. The outer side 13 of the respective section 12 forms a contact region 6 for a gas exchange valve 15 (see also fig. 2).

A second section 20 is connected to the first section 12 of each tab 11, the second section being perpendicularly remote from the inner side 4. The outer wall 14 of the respective second section 20 serves as a guide surface for the associated gas exchange valve 15.

As can be seen well from fig. 1 and 2, the flat transverse wall 2 has on its outer side 7 a control surface 8 for the longitudinal center of a periodic stroke generator 16, such as a rocker arm of a valve train of an internal combustion engine.

According to a variant of the invention, a contact region 17 for a contact element 18 of an engine brake device of the internal combustion engine is also present on the outer side 7 of the aforementioned transverse wall 2, here on the right-hand side of the actuating surface 8. The bridge 1 is then assigned only to the outlet valve 15. The contact piece 18 is here a component of a hydraulic or mechanical "decompression push piece" (see background at the beginning of the description) or merely a stop.

It is emphasized that the actuating surface 8 and the possibly provided contact region 17 are located on the flat outer side 7 of the transverse wall 2 in a section that is not additionally formed for this purpose.

Not shown in the figures, the inner side 4 and the outer side 7 of the transverse wall 2 of the bridge 1 may be provided with a layer of coated hard material, such as a DLC layer. If necessary, the wear protection layer may also be applied only partially to one of the last-mentioned "points", i.e. the control surface 8/contact region 17.

Finally, it can also be seen from fig. 2 that a spacer plate 19 is present between the first section 12 of the web 11 and the inner side 4 of the transverse wall 2. These spacer plates are used to adapt to different installation distances of the bridge 1. If necessary, the valve train play can also be set thereby.
