Background

Depression is a common mental disease, mainly manifested by depressed mood, decreased interest, pessimism, slow thinking, lack of initiative, guilt oneself, poor diet and sleep, worrying about various diseases, feeling of discomfort in many places of the whole body, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors can appear in the serious people. Depression seriously disturbs the lives and work of patients, placing a heavy burden on families and society, and about 15% of depression patients die from suicide. A joint study by the world health organization, world bank and harvard university has shown that depression has become the second leading disease burden in china. Thus, focusing on depressed patients is also part of social responsibility.

Ancient incense is all natural perfume, but the traditional aromatherapy is generally ignited for use, smoke particles are generated during combustion to damage lungs, effective substances on which the aromatherapy depends can be damaged during the combustion process, and meanwhile, the danger of fire is caused; since the present generation, chemical essence has become the main raw material for incense production, such as incense sold in the market as sandalwood and agilawood, which only uses chemical essence with sandalwood fragrance or heavy fragrance. Compared with natural spices, the chemical essence has similar fragrance and even stronger fragrance, but the fragrance quality and the functions of soothing nerves, preserving health and enlightening sex do not speak in the same day. Many natural perfumes are listed as the top-grade medicinal materials, while synthetic perfumes as chemical products are fragrant and overflow at first smell, but are harmful to health when being used for multiple purposes; moreover, even with respect to odor alone, chemical flavors are only close to, and far from, natural flavors; so the natural aroma has good market prospect.

1. Animal grouping and modeling

(1) Grouping: the 60 mice (male half) were randomly divided into 15 mice each for the blank control group, the model control group, the conventional aromatherapy group, and the depression-relieving aromatherapy group.

(2) Molding: after all mice are normally bred for three days, the mice of the model control group, the conventional aromatherapy group and the depression relieving aromatherapy group are subjected to two stimulations of frightening the cat for 3 hours and depriving the sleep for 12 hours at random time every day for 15 days continuously. The sleep deprivation box uses a 60cm × 40cm × 30cm water tank, the water surface is deep enough to submerge the mouse, a 30mm diameter round table is placed in the center and 0.5cm above the water surface, and an iron net for mouse grains is placed above the water tank to ensure the food supply of the mouse. Cat scaring procedure in an open field 1.2 m in diameter, a cage containing a single mouse was placed in the center to attract cats to scare the mice, and fasting prior to the experiment was not given regular rewards to the live cats in order to ensure interest in the long-term experiment.

2. Intervention method

After molding, the conventional aromatherapy group is given with conventional aromatherapy (sandalwood), and the depression relieving aromatherapy group is given with the depression relieving aromatherapy liquid prepared in example 2 to perform an intervention experiment, wherein the intervention period is six days, and the food intake is measured periodically.

Food intake measurement: the food intake for 24 hours was calculated by adding 50g of food to mice at 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 21 morning days after normal feeding for three days, and weighing the food residue per mouse at 8:00 morning next day. Meanwhile, the weight of the mice was weighed, and the food consumption was determined as the amount of food consumed in 24 hours (mg)/body mass (g). Mice in the same cage were measured separately in isolated cages.

4. Results of the experiment

The food intake changes: according to the method, the food intake of each mouse of the blank control group, the model control group, the conventional aromatherapy group and the depression-relieving aromatherapy group on days 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21 is measured respectively, and then the average value is obtained to obtain the average food intake of the mice of the model group and the mice of the control group.
