1. A decorative item, comprising: a base layer comprising at least a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge opposite the first longitudinal edge; and a loop structure, the loop structure comprising: a first terminal end, a second terminal end opposite the first terminal end, a first side edge extending between the first terminal end and the second terminal end, a second side edge opposite the first side edge, the second side edge extending between the first terminal end and the second terminal end, wherein the first terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the base layer proximate the first longitudinal edge of the base layer and the second terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the base layer proximate the second longitudinal edge of the base layer; a first material layer; and a second material layer positioned adjacent and exterior to the first material layer to form a pocket space, wherein the second material layer is continuously attached to the first material layer at the first side edge of the loop structure, and wherein the second material layer is attached to the first material layer at first and second ends of unattached portions on the second side edge of the loop structure to form a pocket opening to the pocket space.

2. The trim of claim 1, wherein the trim comprises a waistband assembly.

3. The trim of any of claims 1 to 2, wherein the base layer further comprises a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface.

4. The trim of any of claims 1 to 3, wherein the first terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the base layer on the second surface of the base layer proximate the first longitudinal edge.

5. The trim of any of claims 1 to 4, wherein the second terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the base layer on the first surface of the base layer proximate the second longitudinal edge of the base layer.

6. The trim of any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the loop structure comprises an intermediate portion extending between the first and second terminal ends.

7. The trim of any of claims 1 to 6, wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structure is unattached to the base layer such that a space is formed between the intermediate portion of the loop structure and the base layer.

8. The trim of any of claims 1 to 7, wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structure is positioned adjacent to the first surface of the base layer.

9. The trim of any of claims 1 to 8, wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structure comprises at least one additional region in which the first material layer is attached to the second material layer.

10. The trim of any of claims 1 to 9, wherein the loop structure comprises a belt loop.

11. An underbody garment comprising: a torso portion having a waist opening; a waistband extending from the waist opening of the torso portion, the waistband having an outer surface, an inner surface opposite the outer surface, a top edge, and a bottom edge opposite the top edge; and a loop structure, the loop structure comprising: a top terminal; a bottom terminal opposite the top terminal; a first side edge extending between the top terminal end and the bottom terminal end; a second side edge opposite the first side edge, the second side edge extending between the top and bottom terminal ends, wherein the top terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the waist belt proximate the top edge of the waist belt and the bottom terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the waist belt proximate the bottom edge of the waist belt; an interior material layer; and an outer material layer positioned adjacent and exterior to the inner material layer to form a pocket space, wherein the outer material layer is continuously attached to the inner material layer at the first side edge of the loop structure, and wherein the outer material layer is discontinuously attached to the inner material layer at least at a portion of the second side edge to form a pocket opening to the pocket space.

12. The underbody garment of claim 11, wherein the loop structure includes an intermediate portion extending between the top terminal end and the bottom terminal end, and wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structure is unattached to the waistband such that a space is formed between the loop structure and the waistband.

13. The underbody garment of any one of claims 11 to 12, wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structures comprises at least one additional region in which the inner material layer is attached to the outer material layer.

14. The underbody garment of any one of claims 11 to 13, wherein the loop structures are positioned on a back side of the underbody garment.

15. The underbody garment of any one of claims 11 to 14, wherein the bottom terminal end of the loop structures has a length longer than the top terminal end of the loop structures.

16. The underbody garment of any one of claims 11 to 15, wherein the pocket opening is oriented substantially perpendicular to at least the top edge of the waistband.

17. The underbody garment of any one of claims 11 to 16, wherein the outer material layer is attached to the inner material layer at first and second ends of unattached portions on the second side edge of the loop structures to form the pocket opening to the pocket space.

18. A method of manufacturing a trim piece, the method comprising: providing a base layer comprising at least a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge opposite the first longitudinal edge; providing a loop structure, the loop structure comprising: a first terminal; a second terminal opposite the first terminal; a first side edge extending between the first terminal end and the second terminal end; a second side edge opposite the first side edge, the second side edge also extending between the first and second terminal ends; a first material layer; and a second material layer positioned adjacent and exterior to the first material layer to form a pocket space, wherein the second material layer is continuously attached to the first material layer at the first side edge of the loop structure, and wherein the second material layer is secured to the first material layer at first and second ends of unattached portions on the second side edge of the loop structure to form a pocket opening to the pocket space; attaching the first terminal end of the loop structure to the base layer proximate the first longitudinal edge of the base layer; and attaching the second terminal end of the loop structure to the base layer proximate the second longitudinal edge of the base layer.

19. The method of manufacturing a trim piece according to claim 18, wherein the first material layer of the loop structure is attached to the second material layer of the loop structure in at least one additional region.

20. The method of manufacturing a trim piece according to any of claims 18 to 19, wherein the at least one additional region is located closer to the first longitudinal edge of the base layer than to the second longitudinal edge of the base layer.

Technical Field

Aspects herein include a loop structure that includes a pocket opening and a pocket space that can be used to receive one or more items and that can be integrated into an article of apparel.

Background

Garments, such as pants or shorts, may lack the available pocket space for receiving articles so as not to interfere with the athletic performance of the wearer while performing physical activities.

Detailed Description

The subject matter of the present invention is described with specificity herein to meet statutory requirements. However, the description itself is not intended to limit the scope of this disclosure. Rather, the inventors have contemplated that the claimed or disclosed subject matter might also be embodied in other ways, to include different steps or combinations of steps similar to the ones described in this document, in conjunction with other present or future technologies. Moreover, although the terms "step" and/or "block" may be used herein to connote different elements of methods employed, the terms should not be interpreted as implying any particular order among or between various steps herein disclosed unless and except when the order of individual steps is explicitly recited.

At a high level, aspects herein relate to a loop structure that includes a pocket space that is integrated into, for example, a trim or waistband on an under-body garment, wherein the loop structure can be used to receive one or more items. As shown and described herein, the loop structure may include a belt loop on a waistband that is secured to an article of clothing. In general, athletic garments, such as softball pants, may include a pocket on the front or back of the underbody garment, in an area adjacent to the thighs or buttocks of the wearer. Items (e.g., lipstick or keys) received in pockets located in these locations may interfere with player attempts to slide into the bases, for example, and may cause discomfort to the wearer. For these reasons, there is a need for a pocket on an article of apparel that is configured such that the pocket can receive and secure the article in a manner that prevents the article from falling out of the pocket space during body movements and also does not interfere with the wearer's motion or physical performance.

As will be discussed in more detail, the loop structure includes two layers to form a pocket space between the two layers. The loop structure has a vertically oriented opening on one exterior side of the loop structure. The opposite outer side of the loop structure is closed. This allows for the creation of pocket spaces for inserting and storing items such as lipstick.

Positional terms used herein to describe the loop structures and/or undergarments, such as "front", "back", "upper", "top", "bottom", "outer", "inner", "outer", "vertically oriented", and the like, are relative to the loop structures and/or undergarments as intended and shown and described herein by a wearer standing in an upright position. Thus, the front portion of the underbody garment is configured to be positioned adjacent the front lower torso and front legs of the wearer when the underbody garment is worn, and the back portion of the underbody garment is configured to be positioned adjacent the back lower torso and back legs of the wearer when the underbody garment is worn. The inner surface of the loop structure and/or the lower body garment is configured to face inward (i.e., toward the skin surface of the wearer) when the lower body garment is worn, and the outer surface of the loop structure and/or the lower body garment is configured to face away from the skin surface of the wearer when the lower body garment is worn. Further, the loop structures and/or the upper portion of the lower body garment are configured to be positioned closer to the head of the wearer than the loop structures and/or the lower portion of the lower body garment when the lower body garment is worn. Unless otherwise indicated, all measurements provided herein were taken while the underbody garment and/or loop structures were at standard ambient temperature and pressure (298.15K and 100kPa) and the underbody garment and/or loop structures were at rest (e.g., unstretched state).

Turning now to fig. 1A and 1B, two rear perspective views of a portion of an example underbody garment 100 including a waistband 110 and loop structures 102 are illustrated. In fig. 1A, an item 106, such as lipstick, is depicted inserted through the pocket opening 104 into the pocket space 108 of the loop structure 102. Fig. 1B depicts a second rear perspective view in which the item 106 has been inserted into the pocket space 108 of the loop structure 102 and received. In an exemplary aspect, the waistband 110 extends from the waist opening of the underbody garment 100. The waist belt 110 has an outer surface 132 and an inner surface 130 opposite the outer surface 132. The waist belt 110 also has a top longitudinal edge 112 and a bottom longitudinal edge 114 opposite the top edge 112.

The loop structure 102 has a top terminal end 116 and a bottom terminal end 118 opposite the top terminal end 116, a first side edge 120 extending between the top terminal end 116 and the bottom terminal end 118, and a second side edge 122 opposite the first side edge 120. A second side edge 122 also extends between the top terminal end 116 and the bottom terminal end 118. As will be explained in more detail below, the top terminal ends 116 of the loop structures 102 are secured to the waist belt 110 proximate the top edge 112 of the waist belt 110, and the bottom terminal ends 118 of the loop structures 102 are secured to the waist belt 110 proximate the bottom edge 114 of the waist belt 110.

The loop structure 102 also includes an inner material layer 124 and an outer material layer 126. The exterior material layer 126 is positioned adjacent to and exterior to the interior material layer 124 to form the pocket space 108 between the exterior material layer 126 and the interior material layer 124. In an exemplary aspect, the outer material layer 126 is continuously attached to the inner material layer 124 at the first side edge 120 of the loop structure 102 (see at 146 in fig. 2B). In further exemplary aspects, the outer material layer 126 is discontinuously attached to the inner material layer 124 at least at a portion of the second side edge 122 to form the pocket opening 104 to the pocket space 108. To describe this in a different manner, the outer material layer 126 is attached to the inner material layer 124 at a first end 142 and a second end 144 of the unattached portion 128 (shown in fig. 1B) on the second side edge 122 of the loop structure 102 to form the pocket opening 104 to the pocket space 108. In an exemplary aspect, the pocket opening 104 is oriented substantially perpendicular (within about ± 10 degrees of a perpendicular orientation) to at least the top edge 112 of the waistband 110. To illustrate this differently, the pocket opening 104 may be oriented substantially vertically.

In some cases, the loop structure 102 may include a cinch loop that allows the strap bar 105 to be inserted inside the loop structure 102. Loop structure 102 includes an intermediate portion 140 extending between top terminal end 116 and bottom terminal end 118. In an exemplary aspect, the intermediate portion 140 is not attached with the waist belt 110 such that a space 123 is formed between the loop structure 102 and the waist belt 110, through which space 123 the strap 105 can pass. More specifically, space 123 is formed between interior material layer 124 of loop structure 102 and outer surface 132 of waistband 110. In an exemplary aspect, and as shown, the bottom terminal end 118 of loop structure 102 may have a longer length than the top terminal end 116 of loop structure 102 to provide secure attachment of loop structure 102 to waistband 110 and/or underbody garment 100. However, it is contemplated herein that the bottom terminal end 118 of loop structure 102 and the top terminal end 116 of loop structure 102 may have the same length, or the top terminal end 116 of loop structure 102 may have a length that is longer than the bottom terminal end 118 of loop structure 102. Any and all aspects and any variations thereof are contemplated within this document.

In an exemplary aspect, the intermediate portion 140 includes at least one additional attachment region 180 where the interior material layer 124 is secured to the exterior material layer 126 at the additional attachment region 180. Attachment may include stitching, stapling, gluing, welding, and the like. The attachment region 180 is shown positioned closer to the top edge 112 of the waist belt 110 than the bottom edge 114 of the waist belt 110, and is shown positioned approximately midway between the first side edge 120 and the second side edge 122 of the loop structure 102. Attachment region 180 is shown as extending only partially along the length of loop structure 102, but it is contemplated herein that attachment region 180 may extend along all or substantially all (i.e., about 80% or more) of the length of loop structure 102. The use of attachment regions 180 effectively reduces the volume of pocket space 108 to better help secure items, such as item 106, in pocket space 108 so that item 106 is held in place through various types of movement. Although fig. 1A and 1B illustrate a single additional attachment region 180 in which the first material layer 124 is secured to the second material layer 126 in the intervening portion 140 of the loop structure 102, it is contemplated that more than one attachment region may be present. For example, in fig. 4-5, three attachment regions 206, 208, and 210 are illustrated. Any and all variations in the number of additional attachment regions are contemplated herein.

The loop structures 102 may be located on the back of the underbody garment 100 (see fig. 5). However, it is contemplated that the loop structures 102 can be positioned in other areas (e.g., front, side) along the waistband 110. Additionally, although loop structures 102 are shown positioned on the outer surface 132 of the waist belt 110, it is contemplated that loop structures 102 may additionally or alternatively be positioned on the inner surface 130 of the waist belt 110 such that the pocket space 108 and pocket opening 104 are located on the inner surface 130 of the lower body garment. In this configuration, the wearer will be able to receive an item that is received in the pocket space 108 on the inner surface 130 so as to be inaccessible or visible on the outer surface 132 of the waistband 110. Any and all aspects and any variations thereof are contemplated to be within the scope herein.

As described above, FIG. 1B illustrates the item 106 after it has been inserted into the pocket space 108 through the pocket opening 104. It can be seen that the item 106 is positioned fully or entirely within the pocket space 108. Although the item 106 is shown as lipstick, it is contemplated that any item having a size and shape suitable for the pocket opening 104 may be inserted into the pocket space 108.

Turning next to FIG. 2A, a cross-section taken along cut line 2A-2A of FIG. 1A is shown. In fig. 2A, the waistband 110 is shown, as well as the inner material layer 124 and the outer material layer 126 of the loop structures 102. Additionally, the article 106 is shown received within the pocket space 108 of the loop structure 102. The pocket space 108 formed between the inner material layer 124 and the outer material layer 126 of the loop structure 102 has a width, length, and depth that allows the item 106 to stay in the pocket space 108 and remain fixed. Intermediate portion 140 of loop structure 102 is unattached to waist belt 110, thereby forming a space 123 between inner material layer 124 of loop structure 102 and outer surface 132 of waist belt 110. This configuration allows waistband 110 to retain functionality for other purposes, such as tightening and/or loosening the perimeter of waistband 110 using a strapping, while also providing additional functionality of pocket space 108 for receiving items 106.

Fig. 2A also illustrates how, in one example aspect, the top terminal ends 116 of the loop structures 102 may be attached to the inner surface 130 of the waist belt 110, and the bottom terminal ends 118 of the loop structures 102 may be attached to the outer surface 132 of the waist belt 110. This configuration is merely illustrative, and it is contemplated herein that the top terminal end 116 of the loop structure 102 may instead be attached to the outer surface 132 of the waist belt 110. Any and all aspects and any variations thereof are contemplated within this document.

FIG. 2B illustrates a second cross-section taken along cut line 2B-2B of FIG. 1B. As more clearly depicted in fig. 2B, the item 106 has been inserted into the pocket space 108 through the pocket opening 104. Fig. 2B illustrates how the outer material layer 126 is secured to the inner material layer 124 at the first side edge 120 of the loop structures 102, as indicated by reference numeral 146. In an exemplary aspect, the attachment at this location is continuous, providing an opening for the article 106 only on the second side edge 122 of the loop structure 102. Thus, when a wearer wearing the underbody garment 100 desires to utilize the pocket space 108 provided in the loop structures 102, the wearer will insert the article 106 utilizing the pocket opening 104. Attaching the outer material layer 126 to the inner material layer 124 at the first side edge 120 of the loop structure 102 may provide a safer containment space for items received within the pocket space 108.

It is contemplated that in other aspects, the first side edge 120 may alternatively have a pocket opening, and the outer material layer 126 may alternatively be continuously attached to the inner material layer 124 at the second side edge 122 of the loop structure 102, thereby creating a pocket space and an opposing pocket opening as shown in fig. 2B. This aspect may be incorporated into an article of apparel that is customized, for example, for left-handed wearers.

In yet another exemplary aspect, it is contemplated herein that both the first side edge 120 and the second side edge 122 can include a pocket opening formed by non-continuously attaching the interior material layer 124 to the exterior material layer 126, thereby forming a pocket opening to a pocket space formed between the two material layers 124 and 126. This configuration may be suitable for both right-handed and left-handed wearers. Any and all aspects and any variations thereof are contemplated within this document.

Next, fig. 3 illustrates a rear view of a portion of the underbody garment 100 of fig. 1A, the underbody garment 100 including a loop structure 102 that has been secured to the underbody garment 100, in accordance with aspects herein. As shown in FIG. 3, the loop structures 102 are located on the back side 174 of the underbody garment 100, but it is contemplated herein that the loop structures 102 may be located elsewhere on the waistband 110. The waistband 110 is shown extending from the lower body garment 100 at the torso portion 170 of the lower body garment 100. More specifically, the torso portion 170 includes a waist opening 172 defined by an extension of the waist band 110. It is contemplated herein that the waistband 110 may comprise a separate construction that is attached to the underbody garment 100 using attachment techniques such as sewing, bonding, welding, and the like. It is also contemplated herein that the waistband 110 may be integrally formed with the underbody garment 100 in a single knitting or weaving process, for example. Reference numeral 154 denotes a position where the loop structure 102 is attached to the waist belt 110 and the lower body garment 100 using, for example, sewing or the like.

In fig. 4, a portion of another example underbody garment 200 including a waistband 202 having loop structures 204 in accordance with aspects herein is shown. The lower body garment 200 is similar in features to the lower body garment 100 of fig. 3. For example, the underbody garment 200 includes a waistband 202 and a loop structure 204, wherein the waistband 202 extends from a torso portion 240 of the underbody garment 200. Torso portion 240 includes a waist opening 242. The waistband 202 has an inner surface 230 and an outer surface 232 opposite the inner surface 230. Further, the waistband includes a top longitudinal edge 224 and a bottom longitudinal edge 228 opposite the top edge 224. The loop structure 204 of fig. 4 includes a top terminal end 220, a bottom terminal end 222 opposite the top terminal end 220, a first side edge 214 extending between the top terminal end 220 and the bottom terminal end 222, and a second side edge 216 opposite the first side edge 214 and extending between the top terminal end 220 and the bottom terminal end 222. The top terminal end 220 of the loop structure 204 is secured to the belt 202 proximate a top edge 224 of the belt 202, and the bottom terminal end 222 of the loop structure 204 is secured to the belt 202 proximate a bottom edge 228 of the belt 202.

The loop structure 204 has an inner material layer 244 and an outer material layer 246. The exterior material layer 246 is positioned adjacent to and exterior of the interior material layer 244 to form a pocket space (not shown). In an exemplary aspect, the outer material layer 246 is continuously attached to the inner material layer 244 at the first side edge 214 of the loop structure 204. Outer material layer 246 is discontinuously attached to inner material layer 244 at least at a portion of second side edge 216 to form pocket opening 218 to the pocket space.

Fig. 4 is provided to illustrate additional attachment regions 206, 208, and 210 on the loop structure 204, where the additional attachment regions 206, 208, and 210 represent regions where the outer material layer 246 of the loop structure 204 is additionally attached to the inner material layer 244 of the loop structure 204. The additional attachment regions 206, 208, and 210 effectively reduce pocket volume and help further secure items (not shown) within the pocket space. With respect to attachment area 210, attachment area 210 reduces the size of pocket opening 218. Additional attachment regions 206, 208, and 210 are located below a top terminal end 220 of the loop structure 204 and extend longitudinally between the first and second side edges 214 and 216 of the loop structure 204. The distance between the top terminal end 220 of the loop structure 204 and the additional attachment regions 206, 208, and 210 may vary depending on the desired volume of pocket space. For example, if the item to be received is small (e.g., lipstick), the additional attachment regions 206, 208, and 210 may be a greater distance down from the top terminal end 220 of the loop structure 204 than if the item to be received in the pocket space is large (e.g., pen). It is contemplated that fewer or more additional attachment areas may be present depending on the intended size and shape of the items to be received within the pocket space.

Fig. 5 illustrates a rear view of the underbody garment 200 of fig. 4 depicting the entire underbody garment 200, in accordance with aspects herein. Fig. 5 illustrates some features of the waistband 202 and loop structure 204 of fig. 4. Fig. 5 also depicts a loop structure 204 comprising a belt loop into which a belt strip 231 has been inserted. The positioning of the loop structures 204 on the back 236 of the underbody garment 200 allows a wearer wearing the underbody garment 200 to reach behind their torso and insert items into the pocket space on the back 236 to receive the desired items. While the underbody garment 200 is depicted as pants, the underbody garment 200 may include other configurations, such as shorts, cappri (capri), skirts, pantyhose, and the like.

Next, FIG. 6 illustrates the wearer 300 wearing the underbody garment 100 of FIGS. 1A-1B, 2A-2B, and 3 and inserting an example article 106 (shown as lipstick) into the pocket space 108 of the loop structure 102 positioned on the back 190 of the underbody garment 100. As shown, the wearer 300 uses their hand 302 to insert the item 106 into the pocket space 108. Fig. 7 illustrates the item 106 after it has been inserted into the pocket space 108. As previously described, the item 106 will be received and secured within the pocket space 108 such that the wearer 300 can move around or participate in physical activities, such as sliding into a base during a softball game, without the item 106 falling out of the pocket space 108 or interfering with the desired activity.

Next, fig. 8 illustrates an example trim piece 400 including a base layer 402 and a loop structure 404, according to aspects herein. The trim piece 400 is shown with broken lines to indicate that it can be any number of lengths. The base layer 402 includes at least a first longitudinal edge 406 and a second longitudinal edge 408 opposite the first longitudinal edge 406. Base layer 402 also includes a first surface 428 and a second surface 430 opposite first surface 428. In addition, the base layer 402 includes a first end 401 and a second end 403 opposite the first end 401. With respect to the loop structure 404, the loop structure 404 has a first terminal end 410 and a second terminal end 412 opposite the first terminal end 410. The first terminal end 410 of the loop structure 404 is secured to the base layer 402 proximate the first longitudinal edge 406 of the base layer 402. In an exemplary aspect, the first terminal end 410 of the loop structures 404 can be secured to the second surface 430 of the base layer 402. In an exemplary aspect, the second terminal end 412 of the loop structures 404 can be secured to the base layer 402 on the first surface 428 of the base layer 402 proximate the second longitudinal edge 408 of the base layer 402.

The loop structure 404 also includes a first side edge 414 extending between the first terminal end 410 and the second terminal end 412. The loop structure 404 also has a second side edge 416 extending between the first and second terminal ends 410, 412. Similar to other loop structures described herein, loop structure 404 includes a first material layer 426 and a second material layer 420. The second material layer 420 is positioned adjacent to and outside the first material layer 426 to form a pocket space (not shown, but similar to the pocket space 108 of fig. 1A-2B). Also, similar to the previous aspects described herein, the second material layer 420 can be continuously attached to the first material layer 426 at the first side edge 414 of the loop structures 404. In addition, the second material layer 420 is attached to the first material layer 426 at first and second ends 422, 424 of unattached portions on the second side edge 416 of the loop structure, where the unattached portions form a pocket opening 418 to the pocket space.

The loop structure 404 of the trim piece 400 also includes an intermediate portion 440 that extends between the first and second terminal ends 410, 412. Similar to the configuration already described, the intermediate portion 440 of the loop structures 404 is not attached to the base layer 402, such that a space is formed between the intermediate portion 140 of the loop structures 404 and the base layer 402. Similar to the previously described intermediate portion 140, the intermediate portion 440 of the loop structure 404 may include at least one additional attachment region 411, wherein the first material layer 426 is attached to the second material layer 420.

The decorative trim 400 may be incorporated into any number of articles, such as a bottom band of a brassiere that supports clothing, a cuff of a shirt or pants, a waistband of a shirt or jacket, a collar of a shirt or jacket, a hat, shoes, and so forth. Any and all aspects and any variations thereof are contemplated within this document.

Next, fig. 9 depicts an example method 500 for manufacturing a trim piece (e.g., the trim piece of fig. 8). Beginning at step 502, a base layer is provided that includes at least a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge opposite the first longitudinal edge. Next, at step 504, a loop structure is provided. As discussed herein, the loop structure comprises: a first terminal; a second terminal opposite the first terminal; a first side edge extending between the first terminal end and the second terminal end; a second side edge opposite the first side edge, the second side edge also extending between the first terminal end and the second terminal end; a first material layer; and a second layer of material positioned adjacent to and exterior of the first layer of material to form a pocket space, wherein the second layer of material is continuously attached to the first layer of material at the first side edge of the loop structure, and wherein the second layer of material is secured to the first layer of material at first and second ends of unattached portions on the second side edge of the loop structure to form a pocket opening to the pocket space. Then, at step 506, a first terminal end of the loop structure is attached to the base layer proximate the first longitudinal edge of the base layer. Additionally, at step 508, a second terminal end of the loop structures is attached to the base layer proximate a second longitudinal edge of the base layer. The order of the steps of method 500 is merely illustrative and may be rearranged based on manufacturing needs and efficiencies. Additional method steps may include attaching the first material layer of the loop structures to the second material layer of the loop structures in at least one additional region. In an exemplary aspect, one additional region may be located closer to the first longitudinal edge of the base layer than to the second longitudinal edge of the base layer.

The following clauses represent exemplary aspects of the concepts contemplated herein. Any of the following clauses may be combined in a number of dependent ways to depend on one or more other clauses. Further, any combination of dependent clauses (clauses expressly dependent on previous clauses) may be combined while remaining within the scope of the aspects contemplated herein. The following clauses are examples and not limitations.

Clause 1. a decorative item comprising:

a base layer comprising at least a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge opposite the first longitudinal edge; and

a loop structure, the loop structure comprising:

a first terminal of the mobile communication system is provided,

a second terminal opposite the first terminal,

a first side edge extending between the first terminal end and the second terminal end,

a second side edge opposite the first side edge, the second side edge extending between the first and second terminal ends, wherein the first terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the base layer proximate the first longitudinal edge of the base layer and the second terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the base layer proximate the second longitudinal edge of the base layer,

a first material layer, and

a second layer of material positioned adjacent and exterior to the first layer of material to form a pocket space, wherein the second layer of material is continuously attached to the first layer of material at the first side edge of the loop structure, and wherein the second layer of material is attached to the first layer of material at first and second ends of unattached portions on the second side edge of the loop structure to form a pocket opening to the pocket space.

Clause 2. the trim of clause 1, wherein the trim comprises a waistband component.

Clause 3. the trim of any of clauses 1-2, wherein the base layer further comprises a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface.

Clause 4. the trim piece of clause 3, wherein the first terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the base layer on the second surface of the base layer proximate the first longitudinal edge.

Clause 5. the decorative piece of any of clauses 3-4, wherein the second terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the base layer on the first surface of the base layer proximate the second longitudinal edge of the base layer.

Clause 6. the trim of any of clauses 1-5, wherein the loop structure includes an intermediate portion extending between the first terminal end and the second terminal end.

Clause 7. the trim piece of clause 6, wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structure is not attached to the base layer such that a space is formed between the intermediate portion of the loop structure and the base layer.

Clause 8 the trim of any of clauses 6 to 7, wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structure is positioned adjacent to the first surface of the base layer.

Clause 9. the trim of any of clauses 6 to 8, wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structure comprises at least one additional region in which the first material layer is attached to the second material layer.

Clause 10 the trim of clauses 1-9, wherein the loop structure comprises a cinch loop.

Clause 11. an underbody garment comprising:

a torso portion having a waist opening;

a waistband extending from the waist opening of the torso portion, the waistband having an outer surface, an inner surface opposite the outer surface, a top edge, and a bottom edge opposite the top edge; and

a loop structure, the loop structure comprising:

a top terminal, a bottom terminal,

a bottom terminal opposite the top terminal,

a first side edge extending between the top terminal end and the bottom terminal end,

a second side edge opposite the first side edge, the second side edge extending between the top and bottom terminal ends, wherein the top terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the waist belt proximate the top edge of the waist belt and the bottom terminal end of the loop structure is secured to the waist belt proximate the bottom edge of the waist belt,

an inner material layer, and

an outer material layer positioned adjacent and exterior to the inner material layer to form a pocket space, wherein the outer material layer is continuously attached to the inner material layer at the first side edge of the loop structure, and wherein the outer material layer is discontinuously attached to the inner material layer at least at a portion of the second side edge to form a pocket opening to the pocket space.

Clause 12. the underbody garment of clause 11, wherein the loop structure comprises a belt loop.

Clause 13. the underbody garment of any of clauses 11-12, wherein the loop structure comprises an intermediate portion extending between the top terminal end and the bottom terminal end, and wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structure is unattached to the waistband such that a space is formed between the loop structure and the waistband.

Clause 14. the underbody garment of clause 13, wherein the intermediate portion of the loop structures comprises at least one additional region in which the inner material layer is attached to the outer material layer.

Clause 15. the underbody garment of any of clauses 11-14, wherein the loop structures are positioned on a back side of the underbody garment.

Clause 16. the underbody garment of any of clauses 11-15, wherein the bottom terminal end of the loop structure has a longer length than the top terminal end of the loop structure.

Clause 17. the underbody garment of any of clauses 11-16, wherein the pocket opening is oriented substantially perpendicular to at least the top edge of the waistband.

Clause 18. the underbody garment of any of clauses 11-17, wherein the outer material layer is attached to the inner material layer at first and second ends of unattached portions on the second side edge of the loop structures to form the pocket openings that open into the pocket spaces.

Clause 19. a method of manufacturing a trim piece, the method comprising:

providing a base layer comprising at least a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge opposite the first longitudinal edge;

providing a loop structure, the loop structure comprising: a first terminal; a second terminal opposite the first terminal; a first side edge extending between the first terminal end and the second terminal end; a second side edge opposite the first side edge, the second side edge also extending between the first and second terminal ends; a first material layer; and a second material layer positioned adjacent and exterior to the first material layer to form a pocket space, wherein the second material layer is continuously attached to the first material layer at the first side edge of the loop structure, and wherein the second material layer is secured to the first material layer at first and second ends of unattached portions on the second side edge of the loop structure to form a pocket opening to the pocket space;

attaching the first terminal end of the loop structure to the base layer proximate the first longitudinal edge of the base layer; and

attaching the second terminal end of the loop structure to the base layer proximate the second longitudinal edge of the base layer.

Clause 20. the method of manufacturing of clause 19, wherein the first material layer of the loop structure is attached to the second material layer of the loop structure in at least one additional region.

Clause 21. the method of manufacturing of clause 20, wherein the at least one additional region is located closer to the first longitudinal edge of the base layer than to the second longitudinal edge of the base layer.
