Background

"millimeter wave" means a millimeter wave having a wavelength of from 10mm to 1mm, corresponding to a frequency of from 30GHz to 300 GHz. The millimeter wave has the following outstanding advantages: compared with microwaves, the frequency of the 1 millimeter wave is high and the wavelength is short, so that the imaging precision is high, and the millimeter wave circuit has the advantage of small circuit volume; compared with infrared, the 2 millimeter wave has the capability of all-weather work, especially under severe natural conditions such as rain, fog and the like; the 3 millimeter waves have certain penetrating power to smoke, clothes and the like, which is very favorable for detecting hidden targets in severe environment; 4, the objects with different physical properties have greatly different sensitivity degrees to millimeter waves, that is, millimeter wave radiation or scattering characteristics are greatly different, for example, in the case of metal, the millimeter wave radiance of the metal is close to zero, and in an imaging scene, the metal is almost a "cold" target.

By combining the characteristics, the millimeter wave imaging has high research value and application prospect. For example, in an airport and station security check system, a millimeter wave imaging system can be used for detecting dangerous objects such as gun cutters hidden in clothes.

In the field of millimeter wave imaging, the research results of millimeter wave imaging are mainly focused on the Pacific Northwest Laboratory (Pacific north National Laboratory). Mcmackin et al in this laboratory developed a three-dimensional holographic imaging scanning system whose scanning mechanism was based on cylindrical scanning, and which has achieved commercialization of millimeter wave imaging systems. The imaging system adopts an active imaging mechanism, and obtains a three-dimensional millimeter wave image of a target through inversion of a holographic algorithm. The technology has been licensed from L-3Communications and Save View Inc., which produce products for use in security inspection systems and try-to-select garments at stations such as stations and docks, respectively. However, this system is expensive because it uses 384 transceiver units.

In China, millimeter wave imaging is influenced by low level development of early millimeter wave devices, passive systems are mostly adopted, and a prototype has large volume, high cost, low imaging resolution and long scanning time. The millimeter waves are used for security inspection, and the detection of forbidden articles outside the human body can be realized only through clothes and the like; namely, the forbidden articles in the human body such as the concealed toxins and the like cannot be identified; at present, X-ray human body inside and outside hidden object inspection equipment is available, but the X-ray has stronger radiation, so that the X-ray is forbidden to be used for security inspection in some countries.
