Detailed Description

Systems and methods for integrating snap-in accessories into indirect adhesive trays are disclosed herein. Bite attachments are a combination of composite materials (build dups) used to create spaces between teeth and/or to prevent bracket collisions when a patient bites.

Traditionally, indirect bonded (IDB) trays have been used for orthodontics to transfer the planned positions of individual orthodontic brackets from a physical or digital study model to a patient's teeth. The IDB tray will include a number of "holes" or "indentations" into which orthodontic brackets can be placed and then transferred to the patient's teeth. Other aids used in orthodontics, such as bite attachments, buttons, or powered arms, are typically glued directly to the teeth, which requires the clinician to spend more chair-side time.

In some embodiments, disclosed herein are IDB trays comprising apertures configured and shaped to seat orthodontic brackets, bite attachments, and/or orthodontic aids, such as buttons or powered arms. Fig. 1A-E illustrate embodiments with orthodontic brackets, occlusal attachments, and/or buccal orthodontic aids. Fig. 1A shows a gingival assist view of the indirect bonding tray 100. The indirect bonded tray 100 can include one or more lingual orthodontic tray slots 102. The indirect bonding tray 100 can include one or more buccal orthodontic button apertures 104. The indirect bonded tray 100 can include one or more orthodontic tray slots 106. The illustrated indirect bonded tray 100 includes a lingual orthodontic bracket slot hole 102 for each tooth, an occlusal attachment hole 106 on the first molar, and a buccal orthodontic button hole 104 on the second molar. Other locations of the holes are contemplated. The indirect bonding tray 100 can be formed of a single component. The indirect bonding tray 100 can be formed of a plurality of components.

Fig. 1C shows an occlusal view of the indirectly bonded tray 100 mounted on the teeth to transfer lingual orthodontic brackets 202 to each tooth, an occlusal bite attachment 206 to the first molar, and a buccal orthodontic button 204 to the second molar. Although lingual orthodontic brackets 202, occlusal attachments 206, and buccal orthodontic buttons 204 are shown, the indirect adhesive tray 100 can include or exclude any combination of these features. While lingual orthodontic brackets 202 are shown for each tooth, other configurations are also contemplated.

Fig. 1D shows a segmented indirect bonding tray 110. The segmented indirect bonding tray 110 can include any of the features of the indirect bonding tray 100. Fig. 1D shows an occlusal view of the indirect bonding tray 110 mounted on teeth to transfer lingual orthodontic brackets 202 to each tooth, an occlusal bite attachment 206 to a first molar, and a buccal orthodontic button 204 to a second lower right molar. The indirect bonding tray 110 is mounted on the tooth to transfer the buccal power arm 210 to the lower left second molar. The indirect bonding tray 110 is segmented into three components.

Fig. 1E shows a single-tooth indirect bonding tray 120. The single-tooth indirect bonding tray 120 is mounted on the second molar. Fig. 1E shows an occlusal view of a single-tooth indirect bonding tray 120 transferring lingual orthodontic brackets 202, occlusal attachments 206, and buccal orthodontic buttons 204.

As shown in fig. 1C-E, IDB trays 100, 110, and 120 may transfer their components in whole, in sections, or to individual teeth. The size, location, number of segments, and number of teeth per segment of the indirect bonding tray segments may vary.

IDB trays capable of transferring orthodontic brackets, bite attachments and aids can be manufactured in a variety of ways. The IDB tray may be digitally designed and 3D printed and corresponding orthodontic brackets, orthodontic aids, and/or bite attachments may be placed in the 3D printed holes. The indirect bonding tray can be 3D printed for a single tooth, segments of any number of teeth, or the entire arch.

FIG. 1F illustrates one embodiment of a bonding model 300 with non-functional space-occupying brackets, bite attachments, and aids that may be 3D printed, all made of the same material in some cases. Fig. 1F shows a snap-in view of the 3D printed adhesive model 300. The model 300 includes non-functional placeholders for features such as lingual orthodontic brackets 302, buccal orthodontic buttons 304, and/or occlusal attachments 306, although others can be included. An indirect bonding tray can be manufactured using this bonding model 300. The non-functional placeholder contains the same size or shape as the corresponding feature, e.g. a 3D outline. The IDB pallet may then be manufactured by placing moldable material over this mold 300. Orthodontic brackets, orthodontic aids, and/or bite attachments may be placed within their respective apertures formed of moldable material.

Fig. 1G illustrates one embodiment of a bonding model with functional orthodontic brackets, bite attachments and aids temporarily placed on a stone (stone) or 3D printed model. Fig. 1G shows an occlusal view of a bonding model 310 including temporarily placed functional lingual orthodontic brackets 202, buccal orthodontic buttons 204, and occlusal attachments 206. An indirect bonding tray can be manufactured using this bonding model. The IDB pallet may then be manufactured by placing moldable material over this mold 310. After curing the moldable material, the indirect bond tray may be removed from the bonding model with and/or without orthodontic brackets, orthodontic aids, and/or bite attachments. Any orthodontic brackets, orthodontic aids, and/or bite attachments that do not transfer directly from the physical model can be placed in the holes of the indirect stick tray. The moldable material may be cured by a variety of methods, such as by light or chemicals. Such moldable material may be a variety of materials, such as a polyvinyl siloxane or a flowable adhesive. IDB trays made of moldable material may be cut into multiple segments or for individual teeth.

In some embodiments, IDB trays with bite attachments placed on other tooth surfaces than the occlusal surface are disclosed herein, as shown in fig. 1A-G. Fig. 2A illustrates one embodiment of the indirect adhesive tray 130 capable of transferring the lingual occlusion accessory 208 to the anterior teeth. This incisor end fitting 210 may be placed over the lower anterior teeth and have a bevel to help correct the anterior tooth back-biting. When the upper incisors are engaged with the inclined surfaces of the incisor end engagement attachments, forward inclination of the upper incisors and backward inclination of the lower incisors may be caused.

Fig. 2C illustrates one embodiment of the indirect adhesive tray 150 capable of transferring the occlusal attachments 212 onto the posterior teeth, which has a bevel to help correct posterior tooth back occlusion. The posterior anti-bite attachment 212 may include creating the necessary facial crown cusps or lingual crown cusps on the upper and lower molars to correct the posterior anti-bite.

Fig. 2D illustrates one embodiment of the indirect adhesive tray 160 capable of transferring a snap attachment 214, the snap attachment 214 capable of facilitating sagittal correction. The bite attachment 214 can be positioned and beveled to allow for the disengagement and repositioning of the occluded premolars and thereby slide along the beveled surfaces to aid in sagittal correction, which functions similarly to an orthodontic functional appliance.

In some embodiments, IDB trays are disclosed herein in which orthodontic brackets, bite attachments, and orthodontic aids have been digitally designed for optimal placement of effective tooth movement. The size, shape and amount of bite opening or functional correction can be programmed into the bite accessory design. These IDB trays can transfer orthodontic brackets, bite attachments and orthodontic aids composed of any material.
