The method according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that it comprises a step of providing at least one of the following parameters from the pipe (1) to the dedicated computer (4): a value of minimum radius of curvature (MBR) that the pipe (1) can reach during operation; a value of flexural stiffness; -a value of axial stiffness (EA) on the pipe (1); and the value of the linear net weight of the pipe (1) when submerged in seawater.

7. Method according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that it comprises a step of providing to said special computer (4) at least one of the following parameters relating to said bending limiter (6): whether the tube (1) is fitted with a bending limiter (6); a value of a locking radius (MBR) of the bend limiter (6); -the maximum length of the bending limiter (6) mounted on the tube (1); and the net weight of the bending limiter (6) when submerged in seawater.

8. Method according to any one of claims 1 to 7, characterized in that it comprises a step of providing at least one of the following parameters from an adapter to said special purpose computer (4): whether an adapter is used to connect the tube (1) to the VCM; and the length of the adapter; the net weight of the adapter when submerged in seawater.

9. Method according to any one of claims 1 to 8, characterized in that it comprises a step of providing at least one of the following parameters from a connector to said special purpose computer (4): a length of the connector; and the net weight of the connector when submerged in seawater.

10. A method according to any one of claims 1 to 9, characterized in that the method comprises the step of providing at least one of the following parameters from the VCM to the special purpose computer (4): a minimum angle of a gooseneck with a vertical axis of the VCM; a vertical distance from a flange (9) of the VCM to a seabed; the vertical distance from the eye bolt to the flange (9); a horizontal distance from the eye bolt to the flange (9); a vertical distance from the flange (9) to the centre of gravity; a horizontal distance from the flange (9) to the center of gravity; a vertical distance from the flange (9) to a base of the VCM; a horizontal distance from the flange (9) to a center of a hub on the VCM; and the weight of the VCM when submerged in seawater.

11. The method according to any one of claims 1 to 10, characterized in that it comprises a step of providing at least one of the following parameters from the buoy (7) to the dedicated computer (4): a distance between a flange (9) of the VCM and a point to which the buoy is attached; and the net thrust of the float.

12. The method according to any one of claims 1 to 11, comprising a step for calibrating a camera to obtain intrinsic and extrinsic parameters from a video camera (3) in DVC operation, wherein a calibration procedure consists of the steps of: an image is captured from a calibration pattern that includes a previously known image.

13. A system for supporting the operation of a subsea installation during a direct vertical connection operation for 3D reconstruction of flexible pipe (1), the system comprising flexible pipe (1) sprayed with a specific regular pattern, and means for performing a physical simulation to obtain a radius of curvature of the flexible pipe (1), wherein the system comprises:

means for capturing images from the flexible pipe (1) during the direct vertical connection operation;

means for sending the captured image to a dedicated computer (4); and

means for processing the captured image to generate information from the radius of curvature,

an installation process characterized by comprising at least one of:

a bending limiter (6) sprayed with a specific regular pattern;

a belt (71) for the float (7) sprayed with a specific regular pattern; and

in the case of the second end DVC operation, the hoisting belts (91) and (92) for the arc-shaped curved portion are sprayed with a specific regular pattern.

14. The system according to claim 13, characterized in that it comprises two video cameras (3) to capture images of the pipe (1), wherein the cameras (3) have a high resolution in low light environments and are resistant to subsea environments,

wherein the camera (3) comprises a camera angle of at least 1.3 x 10-3Photosensitivity of Lux; and the field of view in water is the minimum of 80 ℃;

Technical Field

The present invention relates to the field of subsea engineering design to support the interconnection of flexible oil and gas pipes between wells and platforms in deep water. More particularly, the present invention relates to a Direct Vertical Connection (DVC) operation developed by the applicant. Accordingly, the present invention relates to methods and tools for monitoring the radius of curvature of a flexible pipe in real time during DVC operations in order to increase the safety and operational efficiency of these operations.

Background

During the direct vertical connection operation (hereinafter, DVC), the installation of the vertical connection module (hereinafter, VCM) is a complex step, which can take several days to complete. In addition, factors such as environmental conditions, visibility, and potential risks with flexible pipe and subsea equipment can create even longer process delays.

As is well known, during DVC operation, a force is applied to the VCM by the flexible tube. Therefore, in order to perform this operation safely (for both the equipment and the flexible pipe), it is necessary that the force on the VCM and the radius of curvature of the pipe are within the limits established by the manufacturer during all steps of the operation.

However, determining the force on the VCM and the construction of the pipe during installation is complicated, as it depends on the characteristics of the pipe, the VCM, the environmental conditions and the characteristics of the PLSV vessel (pipe laying support vessel) on which the flexible pipe is installed.

The configuration of flexible pipe in DVC operation depends on the flexural stiffness (EI) of the pipe, which in turn varies with pressure, temperature, and force while operating. Therefore, the true value of flexural stiffness is a parameter that must be estimated during operation in order to obtain accurate construction and dynamic behavior of the flexible pipe during DVC.

The radius of curvature of the flexible pipe may be determined by the flexural stiffness (EI) and must be monitored to prevent its minimum from being breached, which may result in damage to the flexible pipe.

To mitigate possible damage to the flexible pipe, a device called a bend limiter is used which locks at the minimum radius of curvature allowed by the wire, preventing it from bending at a radius less than the allowed radius.

However, locking the bend limiters may cause damage to the VCM structure, such as breaking the gooseneck and/or the subsea equipment to which the VCM is connected (such as the hub of a Production Adapter Base (PAB), or the hub of a subsea pipeline end manifold (PLEM)).

It is therefore a primary object of the present invention to obtain an estimate of the curvature of a pipe using a 3D reconstruction of the geometry of the pipe and a real-time physical simulation of static equilibrium during DVC operation.

The real-time knowledge of the radius of curvature along the flexible pipe and the forces involved during installation obtained by the system presented herein prevents the launch engineer from making risky movements that could damage the pipe or the VCM, thereby preventing coupling of the VCM to subsea equipment in risky situations.

Another possible application for the present invention relates to its use in qualification tests on flexible pipes, such as DIP tests (deep DIP performance tests), which will allow an improved assessment of the behavior of the flexible pipe during testing, since by monitoring it becomes possible to obtain the radius of curvature with higher accuracy during testing.

This document explains a method for assisting a pipe installation engineer to safely perform DVC operations. The method is based on a computational view system for estimating the curvature of a flexible pipe during DVC operation in order to improve the efficiency of the operation by using stereo cameras and some markers along the pipe.

The system described has a set of stereoscopic low-light cameras, and an interlaced pattern of black and white marks painted on the tube. The system performs its tasks through a sequence of three distinct phases: calibration, detection, and estimation of radius of curvature.

For detecting and reconstructing the 3D geometry of the flexible tube, the method is based on an interlaced pattern of black and white markers, which should cover the entire surface of the tube segment being analyzed. This pattern allows the system to distinguish tube segments over time.

Once calibrated, the system continually attempts to identify the interlaced pattern in the image. The detection algorithm uses topological constraints to segment the most likely candidate images for white marking, and then it applies a technical backtracking algorithm to select which of those candidates are really related to the flexible tube.

As described in this document, different methods are used to track the tube over time, as the detection process takes a long time to process as each image needs to be studied. The tracking procedure is a two-step energy maximization technique, which is based on the fact that: the tube moves slightly from frame to frame, thus reducing the search space for studying the maximum in the next frame of the image.

Finally, when a white marker is found that represents a segment of the tube reconstructed in each image from the pair of cameras, the 3D geometry of the central axis of the tube can be reconstructed into an analytical curve. This process is performed by simultaneously adjusting the curves to a set of points in each image. Finally, the overhead line is adjusted to the projection of the 3D points in the dominant plane sampled from the curve in order to evaluate the curvature of the tube.

However, the system disclosed by the discussed document does not mention the bend limiter, the float bands used in the first and second end DVC operations (and in particular the bands for the arcuate bend of the second end DVC).

Without the mentioned flag (bend limiter), the detection algorithm described initially is completely ineffective, as demonstrated during field tests performed subsequently after the publication of the article.

It was also confirmed in field tests that the curvature was obtained from an overhead curve adjusted to a projection of a 3D point on a plane perpendicular to the cameraNot functioning properly. This is because the uncertainty of the point position is high (due to the very low acquisition resolution). Each reconstruction point is sampled as proportional to the tube diameterThe centroid of the mark on the tube. Thus, the uncertainty about the true position of the central axis of the tube defined by each centroid from the white area of the image is about half the diameter of the tube, which varies generally from 6 to 8 inches (i.e., around 10 cm).

For this reason, the methods described in the prior art show a lack of new solutions based on physical simulation of the static equilibrium of the forces acting on the system.

As will be detailed further below, the present invention seeks to find a practical and efficient solution to the problems in the prior art described above.

Disclosure of Invention

It is an object of the present invention to provide a support tool for subsea installation operations that enables accurate estimation of the forces on the VCM and the radius of curvature of the pipe during all steps of the DVC operation.

To achieve the above described object, the present invention provides an operation for supporting subsea installation during a direct vertical connection operation to obtain a radius of curvature using 3D reconstruction of flexible pipe(s) ((r))RC) The method of (1). The method comprises the following steps: spraying a flexible pipe by using a specific regular pattern; carried out on flexible tubes3D reconstruction of the upsampled points; and finally obtaining the radius of curvature of the flexible pipe. The 3D reconstruction comprises the following steps: capturing an image of the flexible tube during the DVC operation; sending the captured image to a dedicated computer; by generating a reference to a radius of curvature: (RC) Processes the image. The physical simulation includes an assessment of the static balance of a system comprising: VCM (with or without adapter), flexible tube and accessories (connector and bend limiter), strap for float, and strap for arc bend. The static balancing of the system is achieved by performing the numerical modeling of all the parts listed above discretely, taking into account the points obtained from the 3D reconstruction and all the forces involved in real time. The positions of the points obtained from the 3D reconstruction are used as constraints used in the optimization process performed by the physics simulation, which is optimally performed in the GPU.

Detailed Description

It is first noted that the following description will start with a preferred implementation of the invention. However, as will be apparent to any person skilled in the art, the invention is not limited to this particular implementation.

The present invention seeks to support the process of installing a Vertical Connectivity Module (VCM) during a Direct Vertical Connectivity (DVC) procedure. To this end, the present invention provides a method for allowing support for operation of subsea facilities (SOIS), which method will be described in detail in the following paragraphs.

For the purpose of providing information only, it is noted that the wording "support for the operation of a subsea installation" will be replaced in this report by the acronym SOIS. This choice is made to simplify the description and will in no way affect the understanding of the invention.

In addition, certain terms used repeatedly in this report will be presented below to ensure that they will not cause confusion in the following description. These terms are as follows:

flexible pipe (or pipe) -a flexible pipe (such as a flow line or riser) to be installed in a DVC operation;

bending limiters-a mechanical device that acts as a mechanical stop, limiting the radius of curvature of the flexible pipe to a minimum. The apparatus is in turn made up of the following components:

a break adapter-a bisection connecting the start of the bend limiter to the VCM connector;

two halves of the o inner ring-connected to the two outer rings; and

two halves connected to two inner rings;

buoy tape-arrangement of lines tying the buoy to the flexible pipe;

a lifting strap/sling-arrangement of wires attached to the flexible pipe to help form a curved bend for second end DVC operation;

ROV-a remotely operated vehicle, which is a remotely operated subsea vehicle;

DVC-direct vertical connection, which is an operation that must be monitored by the SOIS; and

installer-technical team responsible for performing operations.

As already mentioned, the present invention may be used in all operations where a first end and second end DVC program is utilized to interconnect wells, manifolds and pipes between Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels. In addition, DIP test operations can also be monitored using the SOIS method.

Fig. 2 shows an overview of an SOIS system according to a preferred configuration of the present invention, however, the present invention is not limited to this particular implementation. Note that the SOIS system basically consists of: hardware (camera (3), special purpose computer (4), and cable to receive video signals from ROV) and accessories (calibration pattern).

The method also describes the operational procedures to be followed before and during installation of the VCM. The tube (1) and the bending limiters (6) (see fig. 3) should be sprayed following a certain regular pattern to allow it to be detected under the lighting conditions present at the ocean bottom in ultra-deep waters.

Thus, the SOIS process initially comprises the following steps: marking (see fig. 3) the flexible tube (1) with a specific regular pattern; and marking the bend limiter (6) in a manner compatible with the regular pattern used on the tube (1). Preferably, these steps will be performed on a supporting base on land to reduce the impact on the vessel; however, the markings are not limited to the mentioned support bases positioned on land and may be made or reinforced on the vessel (5).

When enabled, the SOIS monitors operations in the following manner to provide support for installation. During DVC, two video cameras (3) mounted on the ROV (2) capture images of the flexible pipe (1). These images are then sent to a dedicated computer (4) and processed by the SOIS. Finally, the values of the radius of curvature are presented to the launch engineer in real time. See fig. 2.

In a preferred construction of the invention, the particular regular pattern used comprises alternating black and white bands. Fig. 3a shows an optional configuration for marking a specific regular pattern of flexible tubes (1). Fig. 3b shows an optional configuration for marking a specific regular pattern of bending limiters (6) in a manner consistent with the marking of the tube (1).

As shown in fig. 3a, an interleaved and regular sequence of marks white and black areas to be used on the flexible pipe (1) where a range of requirements can be used.

The marking should be done using a matt paint (matt) in black and white, wherein the length of the white areas must be equal to the outer diameter (d) of the tube (1) and the length of the black areas must be equal to half the outer diameter (d/2) of the tube (1). The marking is not limited to the use of the colors black and white or to the lengths described above. Another combination of color and spray length may be used which allows reconstruction of the structure and data capture without damage.

Optionally, the marking should be performed on the first 50 meters of the tube (1). If the pipe (1) has to be painted or finished on the ship, the section in the compressed position below the bending limiter (6) does not need to be painted or finished.

In an ideal configuration of the invention, the designation of the flexible pipe (1) is the responsibility of the installer (in case of supervision by an inspector on the installation vessel (5)). Ideally, the flexible tube (1) should be marked prior to loading, with the installer being responsible for final marking on the tube (1) following the proposed recommendations.

As regards marking the bending limiters (6), it is preferable to have a staggered pattern of black and white areas, similar to the pattern marked on the tube (1), as shown in fig. 3 b.

Also for the bending limiter (6), the marking should be done using a matt paint (matt) in the colours black and white, and also using a black matt tape. The marking is not limited to the use of black and white as described above. Another combination of colors may be used that allows reconstruction of the structure and data capture without damage.

In addition, the inner ring (61) is painted white, the outer ring (62) is painted black, and the adapter is painted white. After installation of the outer rings (62), they should be wrapped with black tape to hide the anode. The color of the tape is not limited to black, but it should follow the coloring of the outer ring (62).

Preferably, the marking of the bending limiter (6) is also the responsibility of the installer in the case of supervision by an inspector on the installation vessel (5).

Ideally, the bend limiter (6) should be sprayed before loading. It is the responsibility of the installer to perform the final marking of the bending limiter (6) following the proposed recommendations.

In order to estimate the curvature and to provide a more accurate estimate, the SOIS method of the present invention also optionally proposes to identify a point for attaching the buoy (7) to the flexible pipe (1). For this purpose, the belt (71) for the buoy (7) must be marked.

Thus, fig. 4a and 4b show two optional configurations of a belt (71) for a marking buoy according to the present invention.

According to the invention, the belt (71) used for the floats (7) must be marked with a matt adhesive tape (matt) in black and white, wherein the marking of the belt (71) of the first float (positioned closest to the VCM) is different from the marking of the belts (71) of the other floats (7). Just as with the marking of the flexible tube (1) and the curved fastener (6), the marking is not limited to the use of the colors black and white described above, and another combination of colors may be used that allows reconstruction of the structure and data capture without damage.

Thus, on the belt (71) of the first buoy, the section of the belt (71) closest to the tube (1) is marked with black glue tape and the rest with white glue tape.

Preferably, the first 25 cm of the tape (71) (starting from the tube (1) to the float) should be marked with black tape. After the first 25 cm, the tape (71) should be marked every 1.5 m with white tape, or until the float is reached.

On the other buoys (7), the belt (71) should be marked with black glue within 2 meters nearest the pipe (1) or along the entire length of the belt (71).

When marking all the strips (71), the portion that remains rolled up in a given area of the tube (1) or the bend limiter (6) should be marked so that it does not interfere with the identification of the area of the tube (1). In other words, if the tape (71) is rolled up in the black area, the rolled-up portion of the tape (71) should be covered with a black adhesive tape. Also, if the tape (71) is rolled up in a white area, the rolled up portion should also be covered with white adhesive tape, as shown in fig. 4 b.

The marking of the strap (71) for the buoy (7) should also be the responsibility of the installer, in case of supervision by an inspector on the installation vessel (5).

In the case of the second end DVC operation, the lifting belts (91) and (92) for forming the arc-shaped curve should be marked with black tape within 2 meters closest to the pipe (1) or along the entire length of the lifting belts (91) and (92).

In marking the lifting straps (91) and (92), the portion of the strap that remains rolled in a given area of the pipe (1) or bend limiter (6) should be marked such that it does not interfere with the identification of the area of the line in a manner similar to the way the float strap is marked (i.e. using the same colour used in that area). In other words, if the lifting belts (91) and (92) are rolled up in the black area, the rolled-up portions of the lifting belts (91) and (92) should be covered with the black adhesive tape. Otherwise, if the lifting tapes (91) and (92) are rolled up in a white area, the rolled-up portion should be covered with a white adhesive tape.

The marking of the hoisting belts (91) and (92) for the pipe (1) should also be the responsibility of the installer, under supervision by an inspector on the installation vessel (5).

To perform, the SOIS needs to provide some information about the operation of the DVC, such as the physical characteristics of the equipment, such as the flexible tube (1), the buoy (7), the bend limiter (6), and the VCM. This information (which will be presented in detail below) may be provided by the SOIS at various times during execution, as will be apparent from the following description.

Further, most of the information may be provided by a ground team who performs research on the DVC construct prior to operation. This information may be provided by a form passed to the launch engineer (to be inserted directly into the user interface provided by the SOIS) to monitor the DVC operation.

Other information is only available to the launch engineer at a time before or during the operation of the DVC. The provision of DVC information is the responsibility of the installer under supervision of an inspector on the installation vessel (5).

The parameters to be provided are schematically shown in fig. 5, 6 and 7, wherein fig. 5 schematically shows the PLSV-crane distance and the PLSV-VCM distance. Figure 6 schematically illustrates elements of a DVC arcuate bend. Fig. 7 shows two options for coupling the VCM as designed by the method of the invention, the VCM is shown to the left or right (fig. 7a and 7 b).

Thus, in general, SOIS requires information from the following conventional parameters:

the type of DVC, i.e., whether the type of DVC is a first end or a second end;

the value of the water line, i.e. the distance between the seabed and the surface (provided only in case it is the first end DVC);

PLSV-VCM distance, i.e. the horizontal distance between the end of the tube (1) on PLSV (5) and the eye bolt of the VCM, as shown in fig. 5. This data point is obtained by taking a static shot of the VCM with ROV (2) (provided only in the case where it is the first end DVC);

PLSV-crane distance, i.e. the horizontal distance between the end of the tube (1) on PLSV (5) and the crane (8), as shown in fig. 5. This data point should be calculated based on the position of the jack (8) relative to PLSV (5) (provided only if it is the first end DVC);

a length (910) of a first lifting strap of the arcuate bend (provided only if it is the second end DVC);

a length (920) of the second lifting strap of the arcuate bend (provided only if it is the second end DVC);

the position of the tube along the first lifting strap (91), i.e. the length between the flange (9) of the VCM to the first lifting strap (91) of the arc bend (provided only if it is the second end DVC);

the position of the tube along the second lifting strap (92), i.e. the length between the flange (9) of the VCM to the second lifting strap (92) of the arc bend (provided only if it is the second end DVC); and

at the side of the link in the image, i.e. if the VCM appears to the left of the other end of the tube (1) in the image from the camera (3), the state is "left" (fig. 7a), otherwise the state is "right" (fig. 7 b).

The SOIS also requires information from the tube (1) on the following parameters:

minimum radius of curvature that the tube (1) can reach during operation: (MBR) A value of (d);

flexural rigidity (EI = RC locking ×M locking ) Wherein the locking radius of curvature of the bending limiter (6)RC locking (or the minimum radius of the tube (1) without the use of a bending limiter (6)) is equal to the inverse of the locking curvature (i.e. 1 ≧ based on the length of the lock)k locking ) And is a factor ofM locking A moment corresponding to the locking radius of curvature, obtained from a hysteresis curve provided by the equipment manufacturer;

The following bending limiter (6) parameters must also be provided to the SOIS:

whether the tube (1) is fitted with a bend limiter (6), wherein if the tube (1) is not fitted with a bend limiter (6), no further fields relating to the bend limiter (6) should be filled in;

the locking radius of the bending limiter (6) ((MBR) A value of (d);

maximum length of the bend limiter (6) mounted on the tube (1); and

the net weight of the bending limiter (6) when submerged in seawater.

The SOIS also requires the following parameters from the adapter:

whether an adapter is used to connect the tube (1) to the VCM, wherein if an adapter is not used, no other fields relating to the adapter should be filled in;

the length of the adapter;

the net weight of the adapter when submerged in seawater (i.e., whether the adapter is full of seawater or empty must be considered).

The SOIS must also be provided with the following parameters from the connector:

the length of the connector; and

the net weight of the connector when submerged in seawater (i.e. whether the connector is full of seawater or empty must be considered).

The following parameters from the VCM (if necessary):

the minimum angle that the gooseneck forms with the vertical axis of the VCM;

the vertical distance from the flange (9) of the VCM to the seabed;

the vertical distance from the eye bolt to the flange (9);

the horizontal distance from the eye bolt to the flange (9);

vertical distance from flange (9) to center of gravity;

horizontal distance from flange (9) to center of gravity;

a vertical distance from the flange (9) to the base of the VCM;

horizontal distance from flange (9) to the center of the hub on the VCM; and

VCM weight at immersion.

Finally, the SOIS method must be provided with the following parameters of the buoy (7):

the distance between the flange (9) of the VCM and the point where the buoy (7) is attached; and

the net thrust of the buoy (7).

The SOIS system also foresees the use of two video cameras (3) to capture images from the pipe (1), where those cameras (3) must be high resolution (especially in low light environments) in addition to being able to withstand the undersea environment.

Preferably, the camera (3) should have the lowest specifications: at least 1.3X 10-3Photosensitivity of Lux; and an underwater field of view with a minimum of 80 deg..

Fig. 8 shows a schematic view from the top of the position of the camera (3) of the SOIS system of the present invention.

The camera (3) must be attached to the ROV (2) so that the positioning of the camera (3) cannot be changed throughout the entire operation. It is therefore suggested that the cameras (3) are attached to locations where they will be protected from mechanical shock.

The Distance (DBC) between the cameras (3) should preferably be a minimum of 1 meter and a maximum of 1.5 meters. The cameras (3) should be positioned beside each other and at the same height relative to the base of the ROV (2) and the lenses (front part) of the cameras (3) must be aligned. The distance described above is not limiting, so another distance may be used as long as it can allow reconstruction and data capture of the structure without damage.

In addition, the symmetry axis (Z-axis) of the camera (3) must be parallel and the camera (3) should be positioned on the ROV (2) so that the calibration pattern can be correctly seen during the calibration procedure.

The camera (3) is preferably positioned on the upper part of the ROV (2), wherein the position should ensure that other pieces of the device, such as the arm of the ROV (2), do not appear in the field of view of the camera (3).

For transmitting video signals from the ROV (2) to the dedicated computer (4), a direct connection is designed which transmits the video signals from the camera (3) on the ROV (2) to the dedicated computer (4) of the SOIS on board the vessel. The equipment used (connectors and cables) and the signal transmission means (electrical or optical) will be the responsibility of the installer.

Optionally, the cables carrying the video signals from the camera (3) should have BNC-type connectors so that they can be connected to the capturing device installed in the dedicated computer (4).

The SOIS described herein also designs the camera calibration step so that the SOIS can estimate the radius of curvature of the area marked on the flexible tube (1). The calibration procedure consisted of the following steps: images were captured from the calibration pattern using the SOIS software, where a series of recommendations had to be followed.

Importantly, the procedure is performed with the camera (3) attached to the ROV (2).

The calibration procedure should always be done when any of the following events occur:

when one or more video cameras (3) are mounted or re-mounted on the ROV (2) support;

when one or more video cameras (3) are found to alter their attachment for any reason;

and/or when one or more video cameras (3) are found to experience an impact.

It is also proposed that calibration be performed just prior to submersion of the ROV (2) to perform DVC operations.

For calibration, it is necessary to construct a calibration pattern as shown in fig. 9. The construction of the pattern can be divided into two parts: assembling the structure; and imprinting and application of the design of the calibration pattern (10).

The structure is manufactured using a structural profile (profile) made of aluminium and smooth aluminium panels (100) to form the surface in which the design is to be attached, wherein the distance between the panels (100) (centre-to-centre) must be equal to the DBC (distance between the cameras (3)) with a small maximum tolerance of 5 cm.

The designs (10) should each be applied to one end of the calibration pattern so that the arrows point in the same direction and are positioned on the ends of the pattern.

The design (10) is provided in a digital format ready for printing. It is also suggested that the design (10) be made in a specialized pattern using a matte vinyl adhesive.

The adhesive should be applied after the panel (100) is drilled and before it is placed on the structure. The application of the adhesive on the patterned smooth panel (100) should be done carefully so as not to create bubbles, designs without wrinkles, or damage the design, which could hinder the calibration of the camera (3).

After the adhesive is applied to the support, it is advisable to use a matte spray varnish on top of the design. The varnish reduces interference from ambient lighting when capturing an image from a design.

Thus, the SOIS tool provides real-time support for DVC operations by calculating radii of curvature and other quantities of interest to the launch engineer during installation.

FIG. 10a shows a flow chart of the SOIS from the present invention. Fig. 10b shows a detail of the 3D reconstruction of the tube (1) of the SOIS method according to the invention.

As can be seen, the SOIS basically comprises the following steps: capturing an image; calibrating; a computed view for 3D reconstruction; and physical simulation.

The images are captured by two cameras (3) positioned on the ROV (2), as presented previously. The intrinsic and extrinsic calibration of the camera (3) is obtained on board before lowering the ROV (2). The characteristics of the flexible pipe (1) and the accessories used, such as the band (71) and the buoy (7), are also provided. Finally, information on position, geometry, curvature and vertical movement along the pipe (1) is obtained, and also other information of interest to the launch engineer responsible for the DVC operation.

The video capture module receives images of the stereoscopic arrangement from the calibration camera (3). For each frame of camera (3), there is an equivalent in the other camera, and both are processed and sent to the next computational view module.

The compute view module is responsible for 3D reconstruction of the points sampled on the flexible tube (1) (from the centroid of the line marker (1)). The compute view module receives as input the paired frames from the capture module and the calibration of the two cameras (3) so that the compute view module can extract metric information (triangulation) from the points of the frames. Fig. 11 schematically shows the action of the 3D reconstruction module of points in each frame from the camera (3) according to the construction of the invention.

From these inputs, the tube (1) can be reconstructed in 3D through four main stages: image processing, detection of points on the flexible tube (1) in each frame from each camera (3), matching (correspondence) between points obtained in each frame from the cameras (3), and triangulation to obtain 3D positioning of points identified on the tube (1).

During the image processing stage, distortion caused by the lens of the camera (3) is removed from the frame and passed through a filter to remove noise. Next, during the detection phase, the image is made binary in order to identify candidate points to be identified. During the matching phase, the calibration information is used to find a correspondence between a point in a frame and a point of an equivalent frame from another camera (3). The triangulation phase receives those matches and information from the calibration regarding the distance and rotation between the cameras (3) for 3D reconstruction of the flexible tube (1).

Once the reconstruction is complete, it is sent for physical simulation, and the calculate view module continues to repeat the process, receiving the next frame as input.

The physical simulation module receives as input the reconstructed 3D points and simulates the static balance of these points using a description of the operational scenario to obtain an estimate of the radius of curvature at each point detected on the flexible pipe (1) in real time.

In this regard, the flexible tube (1) is modeled by a set of particles, wherein the drag forces, moments and gravity forces acting on the particles are balanced. After convergence of the particle system, a variety of physical quantities, such as radius of curvature, forces and moments, inherent to the actual state of the reconstructed tube may be calculated.

Thus, from what is presented in this report, it is clear that the present invention solves the problem in the prior art that is addressed, namely to provide a support tool for the operation of a subsea installation that allows an accurate estimation of the force on the VCM and the radius of curvature of the pipe (1) during all steps of the DVC operation.

Allowing numerous modifications within the scope of protection of the present application. Thus, the invention is not limited to the specific construction/implementation described above.
