This enables xylene isomerization to be carried out under milder conditions (e.g., liquid phase, in the absence of added hydrogen) downstream of the separation of paraxylene from its other isomers, without the need for ethylbenzene conversion. The associated reduced yields of by-products (e.g., light gases and non-aromatic hydrocarbons) and the production of valuable purified ethylbenzene from styrene monomer can significantly improve overall process economics.)
