Technical Field

The present invention relates to novel solid presentation forms of at least one phenol derivative having at least one rounded portion and one flat portion. The invention also describes a method for preparing these solids having at least one rounded portion and one flat portion. The invention also relates to the solids obtained by the preparation process.

Background

Phenol derivatives, such as vanillin, ethyl vanillin, hydroquinone, catechol, p-methoxyphenol, are present in many industrial fields. For example, they are used as flavoring agents in the agrofoods industry or as polymerization inhibitors in the polymer industry.

These compounds are currently sold primarily in powder form. Document WO 2016/033157 describes a process for forming hydroquinone in the form of a crystalline powder. The powder consists of small, brittle needles, as a result of which a considerable amount of fine powder is present, which poses problems, inter alia, with regard to its storage, handling and transport. The caking resistance of the product is indeed slightly improved, but there is a risk of irritation of the handling of the compound, especially to the eyes, the respiratory system or the skin.

Alternatives have been proposed. Document JP 2000/302716 describes a granulation technique which comprises passing a powder between two rollers, so that slabs can be obtained, and then crushing these slabs to obtain granules. A disadvantage of this method is that dust may remain either by the rollers of the compactor or by the wear of the slab in the crusher. Furthermore, the granules are dense and their dissolution rate is very low compared to the starting powder.

Documents EP 0689772 and WO 2004/039758 describe the shaping of phenolic compounds, in particular hydroquinone and vanillin, in the form of beads by a granulation process. These beads are highly spherical. This particular presentation gives the beads advantageous abrasion resistance properties and will therefore avoid the formation of large amounts of dust. The granulation process for preparing these compounds involves cooling droplets of the phenolic compounds in a gas stream to solidify them. For some specific applications, the dissolution rate of these beads may be increased.

Furthermore, while these alternative methods have recognized advantages, these methods are expensive. It is therefore desirable to propose other alternatives, which are less economically affected, while maintaining good storage, handling, transport, abrasion and caking resistance properties, while reducing health and environmental related risks by minimizing the presence of dust and fines and improving the solubility properties of these presentation forms.

It is worth mentioning that the applicant company has identified a new solid presentation form which exhibits all the above-mentioned desired characteristics and in particular good solubility characteristics, while maintaining good abrasion resistance characteristics.

The invention also relates to a process for preparing the novel solid presentation forms as defined above by a granulation process. Documents US 2017/0326760 and EP 1042056 propose two apparatuses suitable for preparing the pellets according to the invention.

According to a particular aspect, the method comprises at least the following steps:

(a) wherein a droplet comprising at least one compound of formula (I) is arranged on a flat surface,

According to another aspect, the droplet formation step (a2) is carried out directly at the end of the process for the preparation or purification of the compound of formula (I). In this example, the compound of formula (I) is in liquid form, and no step of melting the compound of formula (I) is required.

The step (b) is a step of solidifying the droplet on the flat surface. Advantageously, the flat surface is cooled to a temperature strictly below the melting point of the compound of formula (I), or in the case of a mixture, of the compound of formula (I) having the lowest melting point. Advantageously, the flat surface is cooled to a temperature between-50 ℃ and a temperature strictly below the melting point of the compound of formula (I), or in the case of a mixture, strictly below the melting point of the compound of formula (I) with the lowest melting point, preferably to a temperature between 0 ℃ and a temperature strictly below the melting point of the compound of formula (I), or in the case of a mixture, strictly below the melting point of the compound of formula (I) with the lowest melting point, and more preferentially to a temperature between 10 ℃ and a temperature strictly below the melting point of the compound of formula (I), or in the case of a mixture, strictly below the melting point of the compound of formula (I) with the lowest melting point. These treatments or roughnesses make it possible in particular to improve the separation of the novel solid forms according to the invention at the end of the process. These treatments or roughnesses also make it possible to improve the mechanical properties of the novel solid forms according to the invention, in particular a better resistance to embrittlement during handling operations. The novel solid compounds according to the invention have a hardness of at least 1N. Hardness can be measured with a penetrometer.

Advantageously, the novel solid compounds according to the invention have a friability of less than or equal to 15%. This parameter allows easier handling of these new solid compounds compared to powders, since the formation of mist is avoided or at least reduced. Friability can be measured by mixing the novel solid presentation form according to the invention in a tri-axial mixer for 10 minutes, and then by measuring the content of particles produced which are smaller than 100 μm. Friability represents the ratio between the mass of the particles produced, less than 100 μm, and the total mass of the novel solid presentation form introduced into the tri-axial mixer.

The novel solid presentation forms according to the invention have good dissolution properties. The dissolution rate of these solids is at least equal to, preferably better than, the dissolution rate of the other existing forms of the compound of formula (I).

The chemical composition of the novel solid presentation forms according to the invention depends on the liquid composition as defined above.

The addition of the additives as defined above in the novel solid presentation form according to the invention can be carried out during the preparation of the composition comprising at least one compound of formula (I) in liquid form (step (a1)) or during an additional step at the end of the process.

The novel solid presentation forms comprising at least one compound of formula (I) as defined above, which can be obtained according to the process of the invention, are also a subject of the present invention.

Finally, the present invention relates to the use of these novel solid presentation forms comprising at least one compound of formula (I) in industry, in particular in the polymer, agro-food, perfumery or pharmaceutical industry.
