The rumen of cattle and sheep generates a large amount of gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and the like every day, and the gases generated by the rumen can be discharged out of the body through eructation under normal conditions. The reason why the high concentrate ration induces the rumen flatulence of cattle and sheep is that a large amount of foam with stable properties is formed in rumen, the foam is a trap of gas, and the formation of a large amount of stable foam can cause the rumen gas to be incapable of flowing and discharging normally so as to generate the flatulence. Normal foam breaks down quickly after production, and rumen foam remains stable and does not break down, an important reason being that high-concentrate diets promote excessive proliferation of bacteria such as streptococcus ruminis, which secrete large amounts of soluble viscous polysaccharides. The concentrated feed of corn, wheat, etc. also contains a great amount of soluble non-starch polysaccharide. The polysaccharide is dissolved in rumen fluid, and the viscosity of the rumen fluid is increased, so that the stability of foam generated by the rumen fluid is greatly increased.
